So I was vaping 3mg nicotine on a friends vape for a few hits, didn't even get a buzz from it (and I have literally 0 tolerance). This is my only nicotine intake in the last year or so. How long will it take for the nicotine and cotinine to leave my system, I have a drug test for work and I want to make sure it doesn't mess with my health insurance.

WOW, that is a dilema, Im sure someone will chime in with some facts.

My first thought is if they get a show of nicotine, ask them for a retake?
Tell em you went to a concert and was surrounded by smokers ?
or you ate a ton of a relative's mass bounty of tomatoes from their garden?
Or the same thing but it was eggplants and tomatoes...

I hope you get time to flush it out, drink lots of water and that horrible green tea with some cranberry juice coctail to make it drinkable.

It's not tomorrow, but maybe on tuesday and this happened yesterday. I have been reading that for first time users it can be in your system for as little as 2 days or so. I also ran a 5k today so that might of helped.

I was also wondering if I possibly wasn't inhaling properly or something that caused me not to get a buzz (or maybe the juice didn't have nic)? A couple years ago when I smoked cigs I would get an instant buzz, same with nic juice. I was thinking that I would be super buzzed after a few inhales of 3mg, but I wasn't.

I have never even heard of a company testing for nicotine in urine as a condition for employment. They are usually looking for that "other stuff". Insurance companies usually work on the honor system, b/c if they find out you lied they don't have to pay out life insurance when you die but they keep all the premiums paid in. For medical they will find out and drop coverage for fraud when smoking related medical problems show up.

For these reasons I will always pay the tiny extra amount to be covered as a smoker even if I completely quit using nicotine in any form. The extra premiums are small and it completely closes a potential loophole they might use to avoid paying later.

Honestly I think of the "buzz" from smoking is caused by the other chemicals in it, not so much the nic itself.

I agree. Having required and taken many drugs tests I don't recall ever looking for nicotine.

Again, I've never had nic included in pre-hiring or in insurance screening.

If I could find it I'd link an article as to nic not being included in insurance tests. I'm sure at some point someone somewhere did it, but I'd be surprised at seeing it now.

Probably a non issue if you're a non-smoker anyway.

Common nowadays for insurance companies to test for nicotine. If you only took a couple hits I doubt you have anything to be concerned about, at 3mg per 3ml you didn't get much nicotine.

Except it's not your insurance company paying for, conducting, or getting the results from an employment urine test. Normally those test results are then presented to the company as "clean for hire" or "Not clean for hire". I have seen these results myself. IF someone is then sending this data anywhere else without your consent (at least in the US) then it is a violation of HIPPA law. Private medical data is highly protected in the US.

PS. I work for one of the largest medical insurance companies in the US. We have to take annual trainings and refreshers on these laws.

It's typically done for insurance rates not for hire

I have been working for large corporations for 20 years and never once had a urine test for insurance. I do have an annual blood test of which I get a copy of the results. They test for good and bad cholesterol (and the ratio), glucose, diabetes, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, and body measurements. Never have they checked for nicotine or any other substance. If they are, they are doing it secretly and without my consent and again I would sue the crap out of them if they did for violation of my privacy and HIPPA law.

I think you are going to be in the clear. I've heard of this practice before for healthcare companies who prefer to hire non-nicotine users and also for health insurance coverage. In fact, the last time this came up, people were talking about some companies wanting genetic testing. I wouldn't work for such a company and I highly doubt they'd want to hire me.
