They already have that medication for nicotine addiction, only instead of putting it under your tongue, you place it between your gum and cheek. It's called a Commit lozenge. Recently they changed the name to "Nicorette" and it now comes in a nifty smaller size in a dispenser that looks like a lighter. You may have seen the "Quitting Sucks" ads with the shark?

Vocalek, Totally different product here, these (Nicorette) products are still delivering Nicotine to the system then you lower your dosage gradually, so they trick the brain into still getting Nicotine and the body is still getting it. Not at all like blocking the Nicotine receptors in the brain, like the drug I'm talking (Subutex) and how it blocks the brains receptors from opiates. I think this is a totally different thing. If they had a pill like the Subutex for Nictotine addiction it would totally block out the brains receptors to make you not even want the Nicotine the way you still do while chewing nicorette. two completely different processes here where talking about I believe and how they work. with Nicorette and these types of products your still getting the Nicotine, with the one I'm talking about you wouldn't be getting any Nicotine.

mwa.... you are correct about NicVax not being the same as Nicorette patches, gum, etc. The body will be still addicted to nicotine using these products. I met a nurse who has been on the Nicotine Patch & Gum for 9 years!! She said her Dr told her to keep using the patch/gum because it's better than smoking analogs. Bet the pharmas loved the Doc's answer, cha ching!

The NicVax drug is administered with an injection, not pills, etc and it blocks the additive molecule from entering the brain..... thus, you need to get your dopamine fix from another source if it's depleted.

I'm pretty sure Elaine was being facetious, since she is very aware of the differences. Her point is probably: Why should BT develop something that may work better when they are already making millions with their "safe and effective" nicotine products?

Nope. You guys missed the part about Subutex. Subutex is dissolved under the tonque and is used to treat addictiion to opiods. I pointed out that Commit lozenges are dissolved (only between the cheek and gum) and are used to treat addiction to nicotine.

The writer believes that Subutex cures opioid addiction by blocking receptors. I found information, however, that indicates that Subutex both stimulates and blocks receptors. Subutex gets rid of the "high" that folks experience with their opoid drug of choice (presumably by the blocking mechanism), while preventing withdrawal symptons such as excruciating pain. Users of Subutex still need to wean down and off the drug, just like the recommended way of using Commit. I would assume that withdrawal symptoms can emerge during the weaning process and can be troubling.

One main difference in mechanism is that Commit doesn't block any receptors, but there is no need for this activity, because nicotine is not intoxicating.
