Being quite unaware of the rule I went to the nearby Starbucks this morning, got my coffee, went outside to a table, and began to vape and enjoy my coffee. Shortly I was approached by a staff member who informed me that no vaping is allowed there on the premises due to customer complaints about it, and she added that this was the policy now for all Starbucks stores.

I replied that since that was the case all Starbucks stores have now lost my business, permanently, and told her to have a nice day as I left. It's their store and they can make whatever rules they wish, but people vote with their money and their feet, as I did today. I think theirs is a policy based on ignorance and poor judgement, and have no wish for further dealings with them on this account.

It may very well be that they have gotten complaints about customers vaping outside the store, but if they are going to make policy based on that I've no wish to be their customer again.

Wow, it's stupid. I can understand if somebody don't allow to vape inside (some liquids have heavy smell and lot of vapour) but outside?!

Why?!

Well I have been aware for some time that there are certain regulars there who have been conducting a very aggressive and zealous anti-smoking campaign, in which they would routinely throw the ashtrays on the outside tables into the trash cans, or simply take them and dispose of them elsewhere. A staffer told me of this last year.

So apparently they have extended this zealous campaign to include anyone vaping as well, since vapor *looks like smoke* it's no different to them at all. For my part I'd just as soon stay clear of where this kind of ignorant nastiness is going on anyway and will not be going back there, or to any other Starbucks again.

Again, people vote with their money and their feet.

What is their smoking policy? One of the 10 stores that are 2 blocks from my house, there are tons of people sitting outside smoking. They even have ashtrays on the tables. Another one there are signs posted no smoking within 15 feet of the entrance. Just on the smell principal alone its a no brainer that they should "prefer" vapers over smokers. Just because I now consider myself an ex-smoker, I am not going to take the side of nonsmokers vs smokers. And yes I realize lack of research on "second hand vaping", or big tobacco keeping their lobbyist going full bore, big pharma trying to quash vaping, and a million other reasons that add up to an explanation... But hey this is just a rant... :) Great topic Vaslovik

Well last I knew smoking was okay outside there, and indeed there were ashtrays on the tables outside, the last time I went there, which was some time ago. Now it would seem they have adopted a new policy, under pressure of the anti-smoking/anti-vaping nazis, and have banned both smoking and vaping on the premises.

I've always found such social control-freaks to be intensely distasteful to be around, and I've no respect for a business that allows them to dictate policy to them that affects other paying customers based on their own personal prejudices and ignorance, to say nothing of their lust to impose control on others.

Over priced over rated coffee anyway.

Agreed, but there are soo many near me its convenience plus they have drive throughs so even more convenient. Though I have been going to panaera lately, as their iced coffee is twice as big and a dollar cheaper. Of course at Panera you cant get a mocha-frappe-lappa-coco-soy-half this-half that-1 and a quarter pumps-ochino. but those aren't really me thing. :)

Yes, AFAIK, they no longer allow smoking outside either.

No biggie to me, I usually get my coffee to go and when I do spend time there, I'm usually inside. If I can go without smoking, I can just as easily go without vaping. Doesn't bother me one way or the other.

agreed, but venting can be therapeutic... :p

I submitted this to starbucks contact

I was Vaping my Ecig out side of one of your stores while enjoying a coffee. I was told it is your policy there is no Vaping anywhere on starbucks property due to customer complaints.

There are several million vapers in the US while people ignorant of vaping assume its the same as smoking it is not and it dose not have the secondhand risks of cigarette smoke.

It is your company to set policy over but I will tell you vapers are a passionate group over their life saving smoking alternative.

We are a close nit subculture and keep in contact threw internet forums and vape meets.

one of the bigest forums gets a conservative estimated hits of 20,000 per day. Your chain has its own thread since you instituted your antivaping policy If 1% of those 20,0000 people daily chose not to buy your product because of you banning Vaping out side of your store well you do the math.

Most Vapors have the since to understand their vaping inside epically in a food establishment is not acceptable behavior.

We tend to feel persecuted when we are told we can not enjoy our vapor out side.

So speaking for my self only you will not get one more penny from me until your vaping ban is lifted.

Im sure there are several thousand other vapors who feel the same but will not take the time to let you know.

To MY taste buds...EVERY single "variety" of their "coffee" amounts to "Essence of Kingsford"....!!!;(
Death Wish is gonna be my "go-to" java.....when I get a fatter piggy bank....!!;)

Everyone is free to do as they wish, with no criticism from me....but....I will not patronize a Starbucks store or buy any of their supermarket products. If they want to arbitrarily ban vaping, fine. I vote with my $.
Please inform them of your decision. If they see several emails they might decide to change their policy In Our Stores | Starbucks Coffee Company
