I'm 3 days into my 510, and I'm just not loving it. I certainly love e-cigs, since I haven't had an analog in 24 hours and I'm not missing them. So I want to try some other mod, and I was hoping that people could help with some insight into the others available.

1) This thing makes me feel like I'm trying to sip a thick milk shake through a tiny straw. What models draw better?

2) I would like to get better flavor. The 510 seems to burn everything to a nearly-identical taste. Well, this may be due to the juices I got, or it may be due to my taste buds not working fully yet. Whatever the reason, I'd rather be prepared with an e-cig that draws well and gives better flavor.

3) After smoking Marlboros and unfiltered Djarums for 23 years, I figured that I'd want the throat hit of the 510. Well, I don't like the burn on the back of my throat when I get a good hit. I'd rather have a smooth hit with lots of flavor.

4) Speaking of good hits, they're inconsistent as hell for me. They only seem to happen on a fresh battery with a topped-off cart. Which means I get 10 minutes of good vaping at a time. I can't always top off (like when I'm driving). But I'll deal with constantly topping off if everything else above is possible with one unit.

Am I looking for a unicorn?

In my experience, the 510 is among the easiest to draw on. With only 3 days under your belt, you may want to experiment with your technique.

It's all a matter of technique in the beginning. E-cig's are no where
near smoking a regular cigarette. The style is completely different,
and each model has it's own technique.

No matter what model you decide on, you'll have to learn to use it.
The bashers will tell you that "This is better than that" - "This
has more problems than that" - "Buy this" & "Buy that". Listen or
don't. It's your choice, but no matter what you have, you'll have,
to learn technique. Once you master how to drag, how much juice
to add, and how your unit works, you're on your way.

Learning is the key, and it takes some time. Many of us here will be
happy to help in the learning process. Just keep in mind that if you
spend $10.00 or $1,000.00, the device will give you trouble until you
learn to use it.

A Ferrari is no better than a Yugo if you don't know how to drive.

Once your technique is mastered, you'll be able to make a decision on
which e-cig or mod model would suit your needs best.

Cheers;

It took me a week to finally figure out how much I liked my 510. So don't give up just yet.

When I get a cart that is hard to draw on I take the filler out and give it a little trim. Sometimes they fill them with the filler to much and it makes it difficult like you are experiencing.

Are you vaping pre-filled carts or have you bought juice and are filling your own? The only time my throat burns is when my atty is getting dry. I drip with my 510 and don't use a cart with any filler in it. If you are going to drip make sure you have a manual sealed battery first. I went thru a lot of auto batteries before I figured out the dripping was what was messing them up.

when a new person asks what to get i tell them:

510: if you need a stronger throat kick, but the battery life is only about 1.5 hours
and due to the atty burning hotter you will lose a little bit of flavor

901: if you want more battery life about 5 hours and a little more flavor
the throat kick is a little less

both are great just depends on what you are wanted more!!

Something is wrong with your attys bro.

510s draw nicely and are very consistent. They also produce just about the best amount of vapor, throat hit AND flavor from any e-cig type of PV.

You seriously need to get a new atty and try again.

yea, what he said, 510's are great & easy to drag as long as u take care of the attys...superior performance, but like most 3-piece models, they take some maintenance & learning time...i didn't seem to take good enuff care, but it worked real great before something screwed 'em up...so i'm getting a cartomizer for convenient & reliable vaping while i figure out the 510...

I am also 3 days into my 510 experience and am having some of your same issues. I purchased a sample of flavors from ecigsmokestore but all seem to taste the same after a few draws. Like a burnt metal tase. The attys are new and I have cleaned them nightly. The vapor production is good but the flavor is very disappointing. Any help!

JD,

Do you use cartridges or drip? I'm unsure which method is best/preferred. I figured if I switch to dripping, it may mean the attys won't last as long? True? I like the idea of having a "set" amount of vape time that equals approximately one cigarette so I can keep track of how much nicotine I'm taking in, but I'm concerned about what it will do to my e-cig.

Six months sounds like a nice long run on an atty.

What they all said, LOL!

Give it time. Try some of the modifications - like using a coffee stirrer to vent the cart or switch to the pyramid teabag filter as filler.

Get some NHaler High Voltage. I just got some and it made a HUGE difference in flavor and vapor. It's only 12mg so the throat hit isn't bad.

Get a PCC. You can prefill 2 extra carts to use in the car and it keeps a charged battery on hand at all times. I charge the PCC over night, along with using the charger for my second battery. I just keep swapping out the batteries to the PCC throughout the day.

If you use the regular filler, try trimming it down, as someone else suggested, so it's not packed in there so firmly.

I got the burned taste with inferior liquids and newer carts/attys. Once you break them in for a week or so , that goes away. Also, less filler keeps away from the atty and causing them to dry out too fast, causing the burnt taste. After 3 weeks, my 510 is running perfectly - no burnt taste at all and great vapor. I'm going to be switching to the tea filters to get better fill, too. I only blow out the atty occasionally - I don't clean it too much. It seems to "season" it like a good cast iron skillet, lol!

Don't go out and buy something else just yet - you still haven't exhausted your 510 options.

Your atomizer is getting too dry.

And yeah, you're probably cleaning them too much.
It sounds like you are not putting enough juice back in after they are dry.
Either that or not letting it wick up long enough before you start using it again.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...buying-using-electronic-cigarette-primer.html

Dry atomizers, flooded atomizers, and wicking
Basically, you want to keep your atomizer happy with plenty of juice, but not too much as to flood it.

A good sign that it's flooded is that it gets a little harder to draw on and you get little or no vapor.
Flooding it, however, won't hurt it at all, and you can just blow out the extra juice.

Letting it get too dry, on the other hand, is not good for the atomizer supposedly.
But regardless of whether it is bad for the atomizer or not, you still don't want to do it.

You can tell it is too dry when it starts to taste like crap.
A nasty sort of metallic burning taste.

One reason it might get too dry is if you burn through the juice faster than it can wick up more.
That is why people experiment with different kinds of filler materials to use in their cartridges.

If you take only a drag or two every now and then, you should be fine.
But if you use these like a cigarette, the wicking process will have trouble keeping up.
There are ways to deal with this, and people have different methods that work better for them.

And of course, when the cartridge is running low on juice, it needs topping off for this reason.

I use the carts. Occasionly, I drop a drop or two in the atty before I push the cart on if it's really dry.

Some people swear by dripping only. It's a matter of prefrance.

The 510 has a really, really easy draw in my experience. I honestly can't figure out where this is coming from.

2) I would like to get better flavor. The 510 seems to burn everything to a nearly-identical taste.
A) Give it a couple of days without tobacco for your taste buds to wake up.
B) You'll still not get much flavor in a 510. They're only awesome because of the vapor and throat hit from a mini.
C) Get a 901 or J118 for flavor.

As for constantly topping off... the person who solves that will be my hero. The PTB mod has been reported to produce good results but I'm still waiting for that magical mod that gives me drip-like performance from carts.

This is only my personal opinion, but I'm thinking people are cleaning their attys too much.
THIS ++

Care for your atty by feeding it juice. Yes, switching flavors will be more painful, but you'll have a happy little atomizer that doesn't burn itself.

He's right on about the flat tips. For some reason they give me better flavor from my 510.

RMV has a 5 pack for like 3.00.
agreed...mostly everybody wants the round tips when they start up, but once u try whistle tips, u'll likely never go back to round...:)

i've been trying to work the PTB & wasting juice with flooded atty, once its figured out though, all u really need is about 5-10 ptb and ur set forever...though i might ditch ptb & fillers entirely to try out the e-dobit...
