Well, against most of the advice given in this thread, and my statements about waiting, well, I broke down and got a 901.

Well, it helped a lot! Come to find out, I wasn't sucking hard enough on the 510, even after my wife tried to teach me, and she is getting great hits. When I tried sucking the same way on the automatic 901 the LED wouldn't stay lit. Once I got the "suck strength" down on the 901, I went back to the 510 and sucked harder on that. And I started producing consistent vapor and throat hits.

So the automatic 901 taught me how to smoke an e-cig.

So, from my original post, I am doing better on 3 of the 4 items.

1) I now know how hard to suck.

2) My taste buds are still suffering the effects on 23 years of analogs. Both e-cigs taste about the same.

3) The 901's throat hit is not as harsh as the 510's. Granted, smoking Johnson Creek Espresso doesn't produce much TH in either, but hitting 24mg Dekang does prove to me that the 901 is a bit milder on the TH.

4) Now that I know how hard to suck things are more consistent.

5) (new) I have to order a gallon of the JC Espresso. That stuff is fantastic.

Great! Man after sending back my last JC order you've got me curious on the expresso. And just so you know, I find the Janty Stick and easier draw and a bit more vapor from it as well. The JS is more like 'smoking' to me although I still do well with the 510's. For a really relaxing vape I go to the JS.

Well, I've been reading all sorts of posts where people have been saying that JC has gone down lately. But I never tried the old stuff since I've been doing this for less than a week. I also have a Vermont Vapor sampler pack, but the ones that I tasted were fairly weak. All the rest of the stuff I have is Dekang. So the JC espresso, IMHO, is fantastic, the vanilla is very good, peach is OK, chocolate is good but weak. VV has been good but weak. Dekang is a distant third.

I do have some NHaler stuff on the way, and some DIY stuff.

So, my opinion of JC's espresso may be because I haven't tried anything better. The opinion I have right now might just mean that it's simply the best I have.

But if something comes along that beats that JC espresso then I am going to be a very happy vaper.

Understood. It's a relative matter and my guess is you're going to enjoy Drew's Nhaler juice. I did. I bought and really like the old style TC and Hawaiian Kona and people that liked the Kona didn't care for the expresso but tastes differ. I might check classifieds for the expresso though. I'm a coffee nut and while I like Janty's cappuccino I haven't found another that is very close besides Kona. Drew's French Vanilla Coffee is pretty good too - I mix it with the cap. sometimes. drop to drop.

Well after being kind of bummed the firtst few days I have turned the corner. At first everything tasted burnt but, now I have come into my own vaping method and allowed the atty's to season a little and I love it. Only had 4 analogs in a week down from 30 a day. Thanks for all the responses. Sorry I piggybacked the thread.

Sounds like most of the issues are resolved, but I'll throw in one more for those commuting.

My normal communte is > an hour each way. This week I've been travelling, and put close to 20 hours behind the wheel, most of it vaping. :D I usually have my 801, and do my best before I head out to have at least two batts charged, though if I haven't got something else plugged in, my USB pass-through will work with my USB car adaptor. I just worry about looking like I'm smoking a hooka while driving. 8-o

A fresh or topped-off cart usually has no issues lasting the whole drive, but I do keep a second one at the ready just in case. Difference for me is that I keep it pre-loaded in another atty. I find it WAY easier to unscrew the atty and swap that way while driving, rather than dealing with just the cart. I have needed to swap or top off a cart during a trip, but I pulled over to do so. That or I just keep mindful of when I've stopped for gas, arriving/leaving a client site, etc., and prep as needed before taking off again.

Puff Daddy;
This is only my personal opinion, but I'm thinking people are cleaning their attys too much. I have only cleaned my attys once in the past six months, when they got hard to too draw on. I have yet to loose one, and they vape just fine.
As I said, Only my personal opinion.

Cheers;
jd

how did you clean them? i am having trouble making an atty last two weeks!

I've had my 901 for 2 days now. And I love it compared to the 510. With the 510, I would get 2 or 3 good vapes (plenty of vapor and throat hit) out of every 10 vapes. With the 901 I get 7 or 8 good vapes out of every 10.

The 901 draws easier, tastes better, and produces less harshness. Note that none of these things are wildly different, but they are noticeable to me.

I have to wonder if my 901 success is due to the automatic battery.

The auto-batt did teach me to draw correctly, there's no doubt about that. It taught me to suck hard enough, which I had been afraid to do because of all those threads that say "a slow easy draw is the way to go." Keeping the LED lit on the 901 tells me that I'm drawing correctly.

The auto-batt also taught me not to over-fill the cartridges, too! Every once in a while the battery would "freak out" and refuse to work. A minute of fiddling would usually bring it back to life. I'm not really sure what's going on here, but the "freak out" always seemed to come right after some gurgling, so I'm guessing that I'm flodding the atty and something is dripping into the battery. I may lose a couple of 901 batteries before I get good *and* consistent about filling my cartridges.

My wife has got an automatic 801 coming - should be here in a day or two. I'll have to try it to see if my success is due to the auto-batt or not.

One downside with the 901 is the cartridge. I get some good vapes for a while, and then it just dies - no vapor. 4 drops into the cartridge and it roars to life again.

Which e-cig is the VK based on? An what makes it special over that one?

The cartomizer route seems a bit expensive to me. They aren't refillable, are they?

It is based on the kr808 model which does not have a model specific forum. Cartomizers are "meant" to be disposable but most of us ignore that fact and refill them anyway. I have been using the same cartomizer all day and I either drip refill (drop eliquid on the battery end and it sucks it into the cartomizer) or take the time to do a full refill (pop off the end cap and plastic washer and saturate the filler with liquid). You can reuse these tons before they die. So I would say yes, it would get expensive if you did not refill, but for me they are a win-win - great flavor, vapor, and easy as heck to refill. You can find more information on the Vapor4Life and Nhaler subforums on these.

Ive tried coke baths they were so so.
Ive also tried isopropyl alcohol (bad)
and two times I had atomizers that were really clogged I got a toothpick and removed the wick, this helped for about two days then everything tasted awful after that

That's why it went bad. EVERYONE! DON'T DO THIS.

The most success I've had was with daily dry burns and/or hydrogen peroxide burn offs.
