Not loving my 510. What's better for me?

I've had my Joye 510 for about a week. I'm pretty pleased with it. It ain't smoking, but it's the closest you'll ever get. The battery life sucks balls though. I wouldn't even consider myself a MODERATE smoker, and I have to charge the damned thing like every day, every two if I'm lucky. Do the Pyramid Tea Bag mod with the carts, makes it so much better. I'd say give it another week or so. I'll probably pick up a M401 or Evo for the better batt life myself, but the Joye is pretty cool so far.

Every day or two? You must barely be using it at all!

When I'm in front of my computer, I tend to chain vape a bit. I'm swapping out batteries every hour, and topping off my cart every 30 minutes.

No kidding, right?

I used to smoke like five cigarettes per day.
Sometimes I can get through a day with one 510 battery.
But very often I have to switch to a second battery sometime during the evening.

I was a pack and a half a day smoker.

I wish I could make my batteries last that long. I go through two of them during work, and probably around four once I get home. And that's on top of vaping on my Janty stick for a couple of hours during the commute. :D

You guys make me think I'm vaping too much!

Maybe I won't feel so bad once I get my Chuck, and can make my batteries last a day or two on a charge. :)

That's why it went bad. EVERYONE! DON'T DO THIS.

The most success I've had was with daily dry burns and/or hydrogen peroxide burn offs.

I just started dry burns and they seem to be working pretty good. I think my problem is frequent topping off so now I

A vape a cart until its dryer than what i used to top off at.

B. dry burn once a day for about two seconds.

Normally my atties die in 4 days so im on day one now so ima see how it goes

8-o

And your sig says 128 days vaping...
divided by 4
_____________
32 atty's????

May whatever deity you might believe in bless you for still vaping, but it sounds as though something's horribly wrong. Were you serious about that, or was it an off-the-cuff exaggeration?

There is a reason the 510 isn't really recommended by most for new beginning vapers :)

You know, folks "go to the you-Tube and see them videos" and folks are like OMG 510 + Manual MegaVapor Heaven, and like ya' do, you go for as Daft Punk wrote "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger!"

But like Ol' Ben Parker told Peter: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility :D

As pointed out by others, the 510 does it's thing by getting hot *fast*. More often then not, a beginner is gonna want to draw on that thing like a .....

And you get "Ugh! Wassat? Meh!"

I have, like others, several different models and I do agree the 510 is VapeTastic™ and wouldn't try to "talk anyone out of it" because that isn't my thing. I would suggest tho if you are just starting out and have to Go Large, start using your 510 with an automatic battery. Most starter kits for 510s come with the manual, but I'd say get the auto and start with that.

With a "primer puff" and a drag, it gives lots of vapor and (more often than not) cuts off at *just* about the right time for you to get a "feel" for where to go with it and prevents that yummy burn taste for quite awhile.

After you get a "feel" for it, switch to manual and add (or lessen) to suite your taste.

If this all seems a lot like "work" for your pleasure, the L88/Volcano/Blu SuperMini "awwww lookie" seems to work really well for the new converts I've let try one of mine. The draw experience feels a bit more like they are used to (others have said this as well and I recall reading somewhere (else?) that and the size was part of the design focus) even tho they need a short "prime" too for optimal performance, the follow thru seems to be more "analog-y".

I like those for on the go when I'm out with people and would be doing something else mostly anyway.

Or, there is the old stand-by, the storied 901. If you aren't down with the "Old Lady" whistle-style carts the come with, the 510 cats fit on them.

I use the flat tip carts with the pyramid tea bag filters. The only time it is hard to drag is if the cart is loose or liquid level is too high or too low.

I did have to read a lot of posts here to find what worked for me. I hope you can find a way to make your 510 work for you, it is a great starter e-cig.

If not, you might just want to go to one of the super-duper e-cigs. People write a lot of good things about the Janty stick, and of course box mods and the Screwdriver, etc. Most of these don't really look like a cigarette though.

Best,

Well, you should tell that to all the people recommending them. I spent many days researching this before I purchased, and the e-cig most often recommended by forum members was the 510. By far. Out of the 50 or 60 threads I read that contained a recommendation for a newbie the 510 outweighed any other by a factor of 4.

I have a feeling that this has to do with the relative newness of the 510, mixed with a tendency to read newer threads. I am far more inclined to read the threads with the most replies, but any search will sort by date, newest first.

There may also be an issue with the fact that most people have opinions, and all the other recommendations were tied at low numbers. It's pretty easy to look at a dozen posts and find 3 recommendations for each of 4 different models. No newbie can find a recommendation out of that.

I'm 3 days into my 510, and I'm just not loving it. I certainly love e-cigs, since I haven't had an analog in 24 hours and I'm not missing them. So I want to try some other mod, and I was hoping that people could help with some insight into the others available.

1) This thing makes me feel like I'm trying to sip a thick milk shake through a tiny straw. What models draw better?

2) I would like to get better flavor. The 510 seems to burn everything to a nearly-identical taste. Well, this may be due to the juices I got, or it may be due to my taste buds not working fully yet. Whatever the reason, I'd rather be prepared with an e-cig that draws well and gives better flavor.

3) After smoking Marlboros and unfiltered Djarums for 23 years, I figured that I'd want the throat hit of the 510. Well, I don't like the burn on the back of my throat when I get a good hit. I'd rather have a smooth hit with lots of flavor.

4) Speaking of good hits, they're inconsistent as hell for me. They only seem to happen on a fresh battery with a topped-off cart. Which means I get 10 minutes of good vaping at a time. I can't always top off (like when I'm driving). But I'll deal with constantly topping off if everything else above is possible with one unit.

Am I looking for a unicorn?

Ok Bud I am new to this as well but I researched this for weeks before deciding to do it and I did a lot, ok a ton of reading.

The 510 gives a good hit, and if only a fresh cart gives you a good hit then it must be your atty (atomizer) either its not broken in yet or you have flooded it too many times like I did on the first few days and it gets a little gunky.

To fix that blow out the atty several times from the battery end use a paper towel to catch the excess liquid your blowing out.

Then give it a try.
If that don’t work look up on here cleaning your atty.
There’s a kid on here (take no offence, I am old) that has a video on how to clean it. I never tried his dry burn tech. until a few minutes ago and I only did it for 3 sec 3 different times. It works great now.

BUT WARNING YOU CAN KILL THE ATTY BY DRY BURNING so do it at your own risk. Make sure you have a spare just in case before you try this.

I have only been doing this for 2 or 3 weeks, I love it so much I got 18 months of juice on hand or ordered.

Happy vapping.:)

Thanks Tiiams. I am well versed in the art of cleaning flooded atomizers. :D

All I do is blow them out into a napkin, being sure to blow twice, once while covering the bottom hole (to get the side vent holes) and once without (to clear the bottom hole, too). I find that doing two blows lightly generally clear it enough to give a great vape.

I've loved my 510 since I got it, and it's the PV I recommend to everyone. I like it so much, as of yesterday my parents are now vaping on their new 510s and loving it. My Janty Stick has been sitting idle for days now, I'm even thinking about selling it because it just doesn't measure up to my 510.

My new Chuck is shipping to me today, and guess what connector it has on it... a 510!

I only wish it had as big of a cart as an 801. That would be wonderful.

You love this thing to death and you don't even have it yet?!?!?! I've come across about 8 or 10 of your posts in the last day or two, and every single one mentions the Chuck. Are you going to marry this mod or what? :hubba:

I am new to this (3 weeks)
After much reading, many suggested starting out with 510 or 901.
So I got one of each with some extra attys and batts.
Found some old pocket clips (like on a tire gauge), slip on ecig and looks
like I have a couple of pens in my pocket. That burnt taste is probably from hitting it to often and not letting things cool down. So I switch back and forth and this allows the wicking process to work better. I've read much of this and few have answered the taste aspect which I seemed to have figured out quite by accident on my 510. When experimenting with technique I discovered that if I let off on the manual button one to two seconds earlier while continuing to draw makes all the difference in the world. Which makes since, if you let up the same time you stop draw, vapor will be left in the chamber to get stale and burn when re-vaped.

Also on a new atty is the yucky primer stuff. Blow it out before first use makes a big difference. Canned air works great for me and instantly dries for no down time letting it sit overnight if you use water or alcohol.
As far as windmilling, a quick flip of the wrist works for me. Don't have to top off near as often.

Glad to say I'm getting the hang of this and can't wait to tell the kids that dad (me) has quit the nasty analog habit. They been after me for years.

I just might. Think the wife may have objections, though.

Look at the pics in the Chuck thread. What's not to love?

Exactly right. Hanging on the button ruins the 510 experience for many.

When new my atomizers had a nice smooth draw. After a month they like to clog quickly and the draw becomes heavy.

I can clean them but by the end of a day they get hard again. I've got new atomizers on the way. With any luck they'll work well for about a month and i'll be back to a smooth draw again.
