I started with an 808, & although I do have a 6v mod to use at home, I still use my 808s whenever I am out & about.

808 can't be beaten for ease of use, so I also recommend an 808 to any newb who would like a 2-piece e-cig (I also rec. a 510 as an alternate choice, because they are so popular)

I know some people had issues with burning filler, but I keep mine topped off & have no problem at all. These new E2 cartos aren't too bad, but I do find the filling process a little messy, & it's not convenient if you're out.

Okay, so then are they really... umm... GREATLY different? Or is it more like the difference in driving a fast car, and driving a fast car with tinted windows and big wheels? lol.

I can't speak from experience, but if the tests done in the link somebody provided are accurate, and I can't see why they wouldn't be. The 808 is about .6 volts more powerful than the 510, which is about a 20% increase in performance. This should provide more vapor, a purer flavor, and a stronger throat it, although it should also burn through liquid a little bit faster, probably not noticably though, and also burn out atomizers slightly more quickly.

Well, we're the ones who aren't on a never-ending quest for bigger and better.

I think that's painting an unfair picture of people who are into mods. My personal mod quest was not about bigger or better, but about trying out different things and finding what worked the best for me. Between my three mods, I got all my preferences covered.

3.7v is significantly better than 3.1v. It's the difference between driving a tricked out Civic and a 370Z.

I'd say it's a fair picture. It's not an insult. It's just pointing out that what works for lots of (maybe most) people is not enough for some. Why do your mods work for you? Bigger, better battery life, vapor production, throat hit, juice capacity - whatever.

I smoked cigarettes. I had buddies who were constantly looking for the 'ultimate' smoke with hookas and bongs of all flavors. I'm not putting them down by pointing out that they wanted or needed something out of the smoking experience that I didn't. The same applies to vaping...

1. There is no 808 atomizers, only cartomizers.

2. Your idea about voltage is not exactly correct. If you are talking about atty/carto with exactly same resistance, than 3.7V would produce more vapor - correct. But there are only 2 types of 808 cartmizers: about 3.1ohm (turbo/wow) and 3.8ohm (premium).
In case with 510, there are atomizers and cartomizers from 1.5ohm to 4.5ohm. I like 2.0ohm cartomizers and 3.0ohm attys.
With 510 you have wide choice of resistance to simulate almost any voltage you may want, you have more choices to find your sweet spot.

Same goes here.
Even 2.7V battery with more than 600mah and 1.5ohm atty/carto will produce better vapor/TH than 280-380mah 3.7V with 3.1ohm carto.

Is it so hard to get that besides voltage there are resistance and wattage involved?

Not necessarily.

I know a vaper who doesn't like anything higher than 3.1v. He vapes 510's, eGo's, and 901's for this reason. He doesn't like the Kr8, because 3.7v is too hot for him. It's not the cartos - he doesn't like it even with a 901 atty or a 510 atty with an adapter. It's just too warm for him.

It's pure preference. Nothing is truly "better" than anything else, apart from stuff that just doesn't work right.

Any choice a person makes will have given values for battery life, form factor, voltage, and the "personality" of that particular atty/carto. Assuming they are quality products, no one choice is any better than any other.

There may not be KR808 attys, but there are DSE901 attys that fit and function fine on a KR8. And in just as many resistence combinations as the 510. And I have never heard of a 2.7v 600mAh batt, and the mAh has alot more to do with how long the batt will hold a charge under load than anything else. But yes, internal resistence of the batt does have some effect. Still a moot point since you can get LR DSE901 attys.

this is inaccurate all over the darn place....
#2) the standard KR808d-1 carto is 3Ω...then the premiums came out and they were 2.5- 2.7Ω....close to the same time the turbos came out (boge) and those are 3.5Ω..... and now you can find all sorts of other cartos with other resistances...the e2 cartos...some XLR cartos and some XHR cartos as well....

the range of 510 goes 1.5Ω to 5.2Ω with the standard being 2.2Ω (joye)

as for your battery example.....that's just flawed too...2.7V battery huh?....where you getting those?....what's the low Voltage cut off at?....are you factoring in voltage sag?.....

not that I'm coming to the defense of the 808 at all here.....I'm one of those people that hate them....cartos just taste off to me almost dirty....I don't like the burning filler in most cartos (the e2 carto addresses this) ...overall the feel of every 808 I've ever picked up has felt cheaply made and kinda "toylike"

As for why some like mods....it's not just about bigger....for some it's more about getting a battery that's actually capable of being able to run the atty or carto to it's ability and demands....as well as overall replaceability of parts (proprietary batteries are one less thing to have to stock up on if heaven forbid a ban or the like were to happen) and a mod battery far outlasts any stock battery as far as overall cycle life...

Right, so you are steering noobs in direction of 808 so they can use 901... Why not 901 to start with. Come on, they can get 650mah 901 Riva batts for $15/ea. Where is common sense?

And in just as many resistence combinations as the 510.

Please point me there. I still can try to return my Ego and my Riva. If I can get wide choice of 808 cartos resistance I could stay with 808.

And I have never heard of a 2.7v 600mAh batt

I haven't too.
It's an example for a math exercise: "Even 2.7V battery with more than 600mah and 1.5ohm atty/carto will ..."
People bragging so much about huge difference in 0.5V [without any clue what they are talking about] so I showed an example in 1.0V difference.

this is inaccurate all over the darn place....
#2) the standard KR808d-1 carto is 3Ω...then the premiums came out and they were 2.5- 2.7Ω....close to the same time the turbos came out (boge) and those are 3.5Ω.....

I don't know development history of 808, but I know the reality. In my 6-7 weeks on 808 I've tried cartos from 4 different suppliers and none of them were below 3ohm. When I was asking around and looking for lover resistance, no one could help me with that.
Again, currently "...there are only 2 types of 808 cartmizers: about 3.1ohm (turbo/wow) and 3.8ohm (premium). "

and now you can find all sorts of other cartos with other resistances...the e2 cartos...some XLR cartos and some XHR cartos as well....

Don't know much about e2 cartos , they just entering market ant it's too early to evaluate them.

the range of 510 goes 1.5Ω to 5.2Ω with the standard being 2.2Ω (joye)

Actually standard (Joye) is closer to 3.0ohm.
2.2ohm is LR and possibly can't be standard.

Bottom line:
You may have your own reasons to advertise and like KR-808D-1 but let's talk about facts:

1. Talking to noobs about voltage difference is completely unfair and misleading! You are not comparing apples to apples. They think (as I did) that with 3.2V they can't get enough vapor and TH and that's complete BS.
Thanks to this kind of misleading advises I spent extra $250 on experiments with 808 and kept smoking analogs while looking for answer in 808s.

2. There are lots of people who started with 808 (regular noobs mistake: look like a real cig) and moved to 510 because they couldn't get what they need with 808s: good battery life and wide choice of different attys/cartos.
How many people you know who moved from Ego to 808?

Yea, trust me guys, Ohm's law isn't news to me... The question was more along the lines of how the mechanical/electrical differences EQUATE in terms of vaping. Quite handy with a Fluke and an iron.

btw, I ordered the 808 this morning... Tried to get Backwoods' Menthol, but their site is using VirtueMart and it doesn't want to give me the Payment step. Oh well. I'll try later.

I am "Steering" people towards the SS more than the KR8. It's 3.4 v and that is what I prefere. I have suggested an alternative in the KR8, because to me it is BETER than the 510. The eGo is obviously the winner, mAh wise. But to those starting out, that may not be that big an issue. All the facts have been presented. There is no need to rant over your prefference with slanted "facts". The fact is, some don't want higher voltage than 3.1. But many do. So why do YOU have a problem w/ anyone pointing out there preference to higher than 3.1v?

Like me! i dont want a huge pv! and 510 auto batts are way too touchy from the video i have seen. like i said before everyone is different!

I've heard of the E2, but what are XLR and XHR ? Are they LR ? Where to get? thanks

It seems to be evening up between the 510 and the KR8 since they both use cartomizers. And both have the 3 piece option as well. I'm experimenting with 510 cartomizers now and they don't really seem any less "toylike" than the KR8 cartos. Obviously the LR 510 perform differently and I'm wondering when KR8 LR will be available.

I've never tried the 510 batteries so can't comment on them. I have had good luck with my KR8 batteries though. Only 1 out of the 8 I've gotten has an intermittent button issue, but it's still usable. The others are all still rockin.
