Once I've actually been waiting for... feel free to count this as an entry, lol.
When I was about 12 years old we took a trip to San Diego over Christmas break to visit some family. While I was there I tried this totally awesome hot chocolate drink at a local restaurant. The uncle we were visiting told me it was a Mexican Hot Chocolate, and told me it was hot chocolate with spices and peppers in it. I immediately fell in love with it.
After leaving the awesome 70 degree weather and heading back to the sub zero Michigan temps, I decided to make my own after school one day. I grabbed a packet of Swiss Miss (with marshmallows), cinnamon, nutmeg... and tobasco sauce. In case you haven't figured out how this is going, I proceeded to heat my milk, start mixing everything together, I wanted it a little more spicy than what I had in CA, so I decided to "top off" the cup with tobasco. Needless to say, it wasn't anything like what I had in Cali, and in fact should have turned me off of the drink all together. I took a couple gulps of it, trying to choke it down, but it didn't work.... eventually the heat in my mouth subsided, unfortunately I had no knowledge of how bad it was going to be in the bathroom the next day
I do still love the drink though, and continue to order it from "qualified" makers of delicious hot drinks, I won't ever attempt to do it myself again though, lol.
