Today i decided to try out ss mesh wrapped wick in my ody. Since someone did it some time back and for the death of me i couldn't find it anymore now and i really need to give him credit for it.

Fiddled a little when i was setting it up because of hot spots and eventually got it right.
Initially the vapor production was OK. Then after a few hours of use, the vapor production went through the roof! It also taste cleaner without the wicky taste that I get with new coils setups. I don't usually torch the wick prior to setting up so that probably is the reason for the lack of wicky taste because I oxidized the mesh when its attached to the wick.

A hassle to set up but worth my every effort. I think I'm sticking to this setup for a long long time. :)

Just checked and the wick seems all good for another few more refills. Definitely looks better then gunked up black wicks after a day of use.

Thanks for posting this, it inspired me to try my 400 mesh one more time. I had tried it with my iAtty with no success.

I did it similar to yours. Except I soaked mine in eliquid and burned it off, then rolled the wick in it. I have 2 Ody setups, the first is performing top shelf for flavor and vapor. I love the sound and the vapor density sensation of a well made coil.

The second Ody is not, I'm not sure why. I've reconstructed it a couple times but can't achieve the same results as the first. I suppose like all things GG, practice, practice, and practice some more, until its simple, and hard to do wrong.

Good post, I'm glad I tried it.

Great to see someone had a positive experience as i did!

About your 2nd ody setup. i figured the reasons would be shorts via oxidizing, coil too tight or too loose, coil protruding above ceramic cup (might short against mouthpiece). when u do a dry burn, your coils should glow evenly. if it doesn't, you have a short.

Here's a guide in how i made mine. This time i did it a little different when i 1st started and this seems to be good so far. Good flavor and plumes of vapor!

Things you need:
-A blowtorch or a butane blie flame lighter. your choice.
-a glass of water for quenching
-wick... and a coil setup. (i didnt include the coil setup part as you guys SHOULD already know how to)
-SS mesh 325 or 400 up to you. 10mmx 25-30mm (i cut mine using my eyes to measure.. :))
-tweezers for the small adjustments

Pic of the materials:

Make a Tiny fold on one end of the mesh. this is to hide the jaggy parts of the mesh from your coils in case it causes shorts.

wrap your mesh onto the coil from the end i placed the wick. I used 2 wicks this time compared to my previous 1 wick. just for experimenting - you can do 1 wick if you have the 2mm wick.. mine is 1.5mm.

Finished wrap should look like this.

Now is time to oxidize the mesh. Flame it till it glows orange like the pic.. and quench it in the glass of water. Sorry did this using one hand and couldnt take a pic of the quenching part. just dump the glowing mesh into the water will do. and roll it on paper tower and repeat 3-5 times up to you. 5 is my usual.

Should end up with this.

Now is time for the 2nd part of oxidising. Using a lighter and VG or PG. I used my 50/50 juice on it.
20120403153124.jpg

Coat the mesh with vg and pg and lite it up! Gradually the mesh will start to soak up the juice almost immediately.
Do this 3-5 times up to you.

It should look like this and its ready for coiling.

Sit it into the ceramic cup. Make sure the coils are not protruding above the cup to prevent it from shorting the mouthpiece. Nice and tight.
20120403155105.jpg

Set it like u do with the NR wires and fire it up to check for shorts. MAKE SURE your coils all glow evenly. If it does not, your have a short. try adjusting the part of the coils that glows the most (likely where the short is) with slight 1mm movements with your tweezers. Once you have it glowing evenly like the pic. you are good to go.

My Coil resistance - its 1.9-0.4error = 1.5ohms.

Setup at work. Doesn't seem fantastic on my pics.. LOL but its working out clouds as i vape now. And its just the initial stage.. its gonna go thru the roof once the mesh is broken in and feeling comfy. LOL

Try it guys. And respond with your reviews! haha..

ENJOY! MAY THE VAPES BE WITH YOU!

PS: the TH is better with 325 mesh. heh.

Try not to choke on it ya. haha. Your short wick method is sweet but i cant get nextel here.. :(

you can get the XS-116 which is very similar and some folks say works great... I myself have not tried the XS-116 but it looks good... from what Im told the mesh increases the TH quite a bit over typical wick materials...

here's a link to help out: min is 10 feet so $15.00 worth...

Ill go hunt for an XS-116!

Yea it does, 325 gives more TH then my 1st setup on a 400. Its been awhile since I last choked on vapes. LOL

I added a link for you on the XS-116 in my previous post.... I do get a pretty nice TH with the dual coil but could be a little stronger... hows the flavor and do you ever have any issues with dry hits or does it seem to stay pretty moist...

So far so good. In my last setup no dry hits at all till it tank is bone dry. This new one hasn't got any dry hits too. I;m kinda worried that i might get some dry hits because of the double wick being jammed into the side channels but it seems to work fine.
