i dont know if this is a normal occurance, but my ody started at 2.8 ohms. beem two weeks and the ohms have been steadily climbing. right now the ohms are at 4.1 that just doesnt make sense to me. i mean 3 ohms id understand but all ths wah to 4 that is weird. is this normal ody behavior?

Im using the ground wire over the wick down the channel and not under the lock nut.

i just redid it. used some xc116. im sneezing a lot already so this might not be for me. ill use tomorrow also see how it goez.

the "gunge" buildup, on your wound wire, from aditives inside your liquids could be another reason for the omage shortage or maxing.. but im just a noob .. ;o))

Today i decided to try out ss mesh wrapped wick in my ody. Since someone did it some time back and for the death of me i couldn't find it anymore now and i really need to give him credit for it.

Fiddled a little when i was setting it up because of hot spots and eventually got it right.
Initially the vapor production was OK. Then after a few hours of use, the vapor production went through the roof! It also taste cleaner without the wicky taste that I get with new coils setups. I don't usually torch the wick prior to setting up so that probably is the reason for the lack of wicky taste because I oxidized the mesh when its attached to the wick.

A hassle to set up but worth my every effort. I think I'm sticking to this setup for a long long time.

Just checked and the wick seems all good for another few more refills. Definitely looks better then gunked up black wicks after a day of use.

you oxidized the mesh and wick together? like torched it? don't we use less fire on the wick? or maybe the mesh protected the wick from the torch a bit?

well done mad. But why its a hassle? Didnt you wrap a small piece of mesh around the wick that is inside ceramic?

Sure, i was about to do a refill anyways.There is a short tutorial abt it somewhere.. im sure you can find it if you try hard enough to flip thru the pages. Heres the pic.

I basically did the Genesis way of oxidizing the wick. Blowtorch the mesh when its already attached to the wick. Plus, priming it with juice and lite it on fire.. the wick took all the heat without complaining. lol

Thanks! The hassle is trying to oxidize the wick and fiddling thru the glowing spots.. took some time but no more then 15mins i guess.. a normal wick will take way lesser time.

Thanks Madshock that's what I was thinking of doing. A small piece of mesh inside the ceramic so there is no chance of a short. I guess it will be a bit trickey to oxidize it because it's really small piece

Not really, altho its small its attached to the wick. so you still have the wick to hold on to while oxidizing it. I torched it till it glows and just dump the whole thing, wick and mesh, into the water to quench it. then roll it on paper towels and repeat.

And to my surprise AGAIN, the new refill is making even more vapor then i can remember.
guys, this is a must try. I'm a happy man now. haha

yes, mesh is not very easy to be torched. Sometimes you may have shorts without knowing it mad. But you did a great job

Upon your next coil rebuild can you post a few pics of the exposed wick, the meshed wick out of the ceramic and a shot of your coil windings in conjunction with the meshed wick.

Is your coil wound around the mesh or just the exposed wick?

Madshock or anyone else can you put up a link to good source for mesh. I thought I had still some but I don't and I've never bought the stuff on it's own always got it with re-buildable atties.

Sure, I'll set up some shots and maybe a short tutorial by the end of the week. I wound the coil around the mesh. The wick is there for wicking and holding the mesh in place inside the ceramic cup.

I got my meshes from The Mesh Company: Online Shop for Woven, Knitted and Perforated Mesh for Art, Craft, Floristry, Modelling and Engineering they always sent with extra free sheets but you wont know what quality until you get them. Pretty decent price too for an A4 sized sheet.

@captsteve i believe some people get they meshes from http://www.mcmaster.com in the US. i tried to get from them once but they don't ship to my country

In the ody, all i used is 10mmx25mm. So an A4 Sheet will last you a very very long while. and it seems to withstand my chain vapes and still look like the picture i post on my 3rd refill. But the ody itself gets really hot probably because of the mesh wick not dissipating the heat as fast as coil+wick setup.
