I hear ya Mr. K ..... my post wasn't really directed towards anyone in particular.... just the situation. But yes you are correct about the O-Rings at a local HW store..... sort of, in my case..... ehhhhhhh ........
My experience a few weeks back was to purchase 2 of every O-Ring I had for my Ody with the expansion kit being as I ordered a replacement set for my Ody but received replacement O-rings for my GGTS instead. No big deal... I'll just go get them @ Home Depot, Sears, or True Value ..... well HD only sells sealed package kits with a few O-Rings and you'll be lucky to get 2 of the rings you need in one pack.... True Value.... the 2 places by me what a joke.
I'll gladly 'splain Lucy....
1st TV place the store manager tells me he's got every O-ring known to man in his store..... I believe he should have said, "I have every O-Ring known to me.... in this store"...... yeah there were some O-rings in there, only not the ones I needed, plus I had to verify what the price was for each ring. They started at like 0.98 cents each for the smallest ring and progressively got more expensive as the diameter grew. I went to find the manager guy to see if the pricing was for a package or was the price only signifying per O-ring.... oh, and he assured me, like a proud, expecting dog catcher.... that those were the prices per O-ring. I told him that his rings were over priced and if he intended on actually selling any he might want to lower the prices by at least 3/4. I then proceeded to split and carry on to Sears HW...
Sears HW was actually almost alright.... they had a good amount of O-rings, if you knew where to look for them. One big tackle box full of O-rings..... with about 10 draws and each draw divided by 6. I did see a sizing chart that indicated standard and metric sizing. In theory this would've been a good get. I thought for sure I was leaving Sears with my Ody replacement rings, 2 sets even and perhaps another set for my GGTS..... wrong!
Apparently during break time, the staff uses the O-Rings and tackle box they come in to play ring toss..... so like each divider was an assortment rather than just one size. The sizing chart wasn't really any help either..... a metal painted template.
After about 20 minutes of sizing each O-ring I picked up to the sizing chart I just got annoyed and left without any rings. There was a high point to this part of my adventure though, the prices were more realistic in Sears HW as compared to TV. Rings were like 0.03 cents, 0.06 cents in Sears as compared to True Ripoff's, I mean Skewd Value's 0.98 cents and climbing higher.
At this point I was willing to try my hand at using some silicon caulking to take the place of these O-rings.... hypothetically speaking.... the thought was appealing....
I have all the sizes STD / Metric ID/OD Gauge / Diameter, Thickness etc.... I even made a chart in braille, just in case. My O-Ring chart is as easy to read as the mid section of an eye chart at DMV or a doctor's office, guess. I gave the sheet to one guy in a hardware store, figuring it would be easier, and told him "I'll just take 2 of everything on that sheet...... like Noah's Ark.... 2 of everything."
The guy, claiming to be a Hall of Fame Hardware veteran, prior to me giving him my sheet, looks at the sheet, looks at me, looks at the chart and asks me what all the numbers mean....... at that point I felt like Mr. Hand right after Jeff Spicoli had a pizza delivered in the middle of history class. I laughed, looked at him and asked, "which numbers are you referring to...?" He asked me what ID and OD meant. I told him that ID stood for Identification and OD stood for OverDose, grabbed my sheet and headed for the exit.
It appears in some places the only degree they require for employment applicants is if they can
throw a rock 6 inches or kick a corn can without tripping on it......
Anyway.... that's where my prior post was coming from.... I just didn't want to do that again.
I just want my Rings man..... Ring Dings, Onion Rings.... whatever - I just want my Rings....... (Lord of the Rings) - Great Movie(s)
Peace-
