So question for the pros, I fired it up without the tank on (dripped juice on wick/coil first) to check resistance, and once the juice dried up all coils started glowing bright orange. Does this mean I don't have any hot spots or shorts? I'm still trying to get a feel for what happens if the coil is wrapped too tightly/loosely.

So far my latest coil is reading 1.5 ohms and seems to be working pretty well. How would I know if the coil was too tight/loose or if I was having hot spots? What are the signs to watch out for that indicate an issue with the coil?

It almost seems to good to be true having all 3 of my coils work right from the start, which is why I wonder if they really are working as good as I think, and what the signs would be if it weren't. Thanks guys!

Im no pro... But ill give this a shot.

I never dry burn my coil on my new set up becos it seems to always give me a choco taste in anything after it.. lol.
Building a coil is pretty simple to be honest.. just need to make sure its the coils are snug to the wicks... its pretty hard to make it TOO tight but a rule of thumb for me is that.. Do not force tighten it and you are golden.

A wick setup is less to No worry for "Hot spots" compared to Mesh imo.. So i wouldnt really bother abt lookign for hot spots on a wick setup.

Well, today the Ody finally showed up in the mail. After watching all the youtube videos and reading this entire thread, I had my Ody up and running in no time. All I can say is WOW! This thing hits like a freight train! I cant believe how much flavor and TH I'm getting off of this thing! I may have to step my nic level down a bit, as I was coughing like it was my first drag on a cigarette.

Thanks Imeo for making such a fantastic product! I still have a Penelope in transit that was kind of an impulse buy after I ordered the Ody. I can safely say that it's one purchase I wont regret!

Agree with these statements fully :) My genesis-style atties can be tempermental and require some futzing if they are too tightly wrapped or have hotspots. The Ody (and penelope, for that matter) are pretty forgiving when using silica wick as I haven't encountered any problems yet... plus, my wraps on both my Ody and Penelope have often been pretty unsightly LOL :toast:

I bought a 1/2 ounce of that very same wire on e-bay and have made about 4-5 set-ups with it...it appears to work just as good (if not better) than the stock NR wire I received from COV :)
Does is matter what guage the NR wire is? I have some 30awg .999silver wire I was going to use but not sure if it will work. Any ideas?

Think you got it the other way round for wire gauges.
The smaller the number (Awg) the thicker it is and the lesser the resistance. :)

32 for low Resistance ~ 1.0-1.5ohm
34 for mid ~ 1.8 Ohms to 2.5
36 for high resistance. ~ 2.5 to 3++ << not too sure abt this end. Ideal if you are using VV mods tho.

Edit: Im talkign abt Kanthal tho. Nichrome wont sway too far off anyways. U can still use this as a guide.

You know what would be awesome addition. A native Stealth base for Ody as well. Just so it goes seamless to the stealth connector ring. Because, you know at the moment the Hybrid madness is running wild and not many people realize that thats exactly what Oyd + gets base + gets is, the most advanced hybrid pv on the market. There is NO other hybrids with juice control, air control and so on. So making a Stealth version would be an awesome addition. Just saying :)

Tube + Rethreader Ring + Full Ad Cap + GGTS Base + Ody

Isn't it what you want?

AD cap or a connector is always needed LS. If you dont have a connector then the liquid of the center pole will go on the battery. Exept you mean a different design that the existing one. Now that I am thinking of it its not difficult but it requires a new piece of hardware and I dont have time for this right now. But to my opinion better to wait for the VIR first to see how we will fit it on Stealth and we talk again about this issue:)

VIR will fit on all existing GGTS and on Stealth too and the first prototype will be ready in about 3 months I hope guys. As I have said before, its a project that you cant imagine. It will be able to do more than you hope, be sure about that. But after my desision to make the PP first, it has to wait a little more.
