I don't have a radius or a P3, just the 2.5's and I never check to see what my battery level is at, when it starts blinking I change it. When I get a Radius I will most likely do the same thing, but if it lasts me all day one a charge, then I would just charge it over night like a lot of people are doing.

When I'm leaving the house I check the battery level no matter what device I'm using (except a Reo). If it's below a certain point I will put in a new battery or charge it. With a Reo I just put in a new battery.

I see a lot of people over there that were banned from here and found a happy home.... speaking for myself I was a member over there before coming here, (and still am), plus several other forums to boot...I was there once, was unimpressed, and came back here.

I'm not sure if this will help but somewhere in this thread I posted/tested that the R will fire down to 3.1V and of course Professor Zen ran the same tests with three different chargers and his results have more numbers after the decimal point.
I can respect what the Mothership is trying to accomplish with the R but for me "polling" the bat with a resultant icon never makes me feel warm and fuzzzzy. All my mods but... I love the 2.5 CB which just looks at the bat when you hit the menu option and tells you the remaining V. One look. One number. A zillon clicks /lol /joke but I love it. It's interesting that the very very latest DNA 40 chip flashes a low batt or it may have been week bat on the screen to alert you. I have no clue what threshold that feature is set to but it is handy.
I actually use the same technique as our resident "TO" /lol and it's become second nature so I don't even think about it. I'm sure the day will come (my guess) when these mods begin to talk to us and issue an audible alarm. Siri for the R comes next. /joke
