hi all,

after finally managing to purchase a £90.00 secondhand Iatty a few days ago, I've just gone and broke it! :(

I had been really enjoying the Iatty and loving the amount of vapour and flavour i was getting, but last night i went to put on a new coil and could not remove the 2 bottom parts! the parts in question are these 2 seen here in this photo:-

2EE4FF51-orig.jpg

and if you follow this link they are labelled as part numbers 1 and 2:-

IAtty - E-Cigarette Wiki

those 2 parts had previously screwed together with total ease but when i tried to unscrew them last night it was almost like they had been super glued together! it was totally impossible for me to unscrew them by hand (cut fingers to prove it! lol) so in the end i had to use a vice and a set of pliers and after using all my strength for 30 minutes i finally managed to separate them.

when i looked inside the bottom metal piece (part number 1) i found a small 5mm long piece of wire which had somehow found its way inside and the result was that the threads have now been very badly damaged........but ironically, the plastic threads on the black plastic part (part number 2) seem to be perfectly okay!?? lol

i then literally spent around 2 hours trying every thing i can possibly think of to free up the threads so they can screw back together properly (vaseline, constant screwing / unscrewing with pliers etc etc) but the end result is that i can only screw in the plastic part to the half way mark and am forced to do the rest using pliers.....and even then i physically cannot tighten it up enough to screw in fully :(

its still sort of working, but the wire is now only being held very gently in place and I'm also experiencing some leakage which i believe is because i can't screw the 2 pieces together fully

to say I'm feeling gutted is somewhat of an understatement :(

where that little bit of wire came from i do not know as it was not part of the wire that gets wrapped around that section......i can only think that when i trimmed a bit of wire when making the coil it fell into the bottom metal section without me realising! lol

does anyone know if those 2 parts are still available or if they can be repaired? (the plastic part threads are not damaged, but the outer edge where the slots are cut out are now ruined from where I'm having to grip with the pliers)

on a slightly separate note, i purchased 8m of wick from the UK GG website (www.E-Cigs.co.uk) but i was sent out the 1/16th thin wick that is used in things like the Bulli......its 3 times thinner than the actual iatty wick that came with it and that Imeo uses in his tutorial vids.....so have i been sent the wrong stuff?? (does seem to work though if i double it up, but i already had 10m of that stuff! lol)

any help or advise would be greatly appreciated :)

cheers

scott

Hi scott,

this bottom plastic part of the iatty tend to get bad threads. I replaced this part of my iatty last week because of the same problem except there was not wire caught in the threads.
When it's hard to screw out of the iatty bottom, you can use a screwdriver screwing the connector at the bottom - that is the metal part in the plastic.

I don't think that the threads of the metal base of the iatty are damaged, because they are made of steel. You can buy this plastic parts of the iatty as a replacement and i would recommend to have at least one more as spare.

When you got the thinner wick, this is the right one. It is the E2 wick and works better as the thicker wick which was used at first in the iatty. Take it two times for the best wick, 3 times would deliver to much liquid.

Totally gutted for you Scott, you know how much I love my Iatty.

If it happened to me I'd be lost, aint used any other atomiser/tank since i got it.

Really hope spare parts are available. Is the Iatty covered by the GG parts guarantee?

I know Cam doesnt have any stock of Iatty spares currently. There seems to be some stock in the other vendors stores, but unsure if we can order from them if we are in the UK.

Hopefully Imeo will pop in and help.

Hope you can get it fixed m8.

hi mate,

nope! it is the metal threads that are damaged.....i can see a big cut running through them :(

the plastic threads are perfectly fine which i admit is rather bizarre! lol

let me go set up my camera equipment and i will take some macro shots of the metal threads......give me 20 mins or so ;)

Imeo will need to confirm the following but this is my understanding as of this moment: Any item no longer being manufactured as a device as a complete unit can be purchased from any reseller.

In this case, the original iAtty is/has been superceded by the Multi-Atty/iAtty2 which has been named offically the Odysseus. If that policy remains in effect, Scott, you should be able to purchase your needed replacements from any reseller.

My Associate status relates to the Forum only so I have no direct insight to the policies other than what you guys do. Even though the original is in high use daily around the world, it isn't offered for sale from resellers to my knowledge and isn't being made again so the "legacy" tag should apply to this situation. Sorry but I can't speak to anything else such as warranty for the stated reasons of my forum only involvement.

I'm sure Imeo will let us know the official position when he gets online! Between the lot of us, we'll get you sorted though, that is for sure! :)

hi all,

here are the pics:-

it was hard to get the right angle, but if you look towards the bottom left side you should hopefully see the damaged threads

IMG_0380.jpg

and here is the plastic part with threads not damaged (but you can see the damage i caused by using the pliers! lol)

IMG_0381.jpg

HOWEVER!

why did no one tell me that the Iatty is made from parts that self heal when damaged?

to take the photos i got the pliers out to unscrew the 2 pieces, but managed to unscrew them by hand as though there was never a problem in the 1st place!!?? for whatever reason, the 2 parts can now screw and unscrew with complete ease like how they did when i 1st received it!!

i swear on my little girls life, last night even Hercules himself would have struggled to unscrew those 2 parts without straining so much that he messed his pants!!

i truly am at a total loss at to how this has fixed itself......the metal threads are definitely still damaged and all i did was bung a load of vaseline on the 2 parts last night, used the pliers to screw them together and left them until just now. how the hell that has sorted out the threads is a mystery!?

so as it stands, i think all i will need to get now is a plastic part replacement so it looks a bit prettier and thankfully my mate Steve has a spare one which he will send to me (thank you SteveMontuno!)

thank you for all the replies and PM's offering assistance......all i can say is that I'm very sorry for this thread which now seems somewhat obsolete, lol

cheers

scott

Hi Scott:)

Base is not damaged, it was like this before.
If plastic scewed before on the base then a new plastic will still screw well.
If a base Iatty plastic cant screw well after some use is because the user crossthread its very first threads.
Because Iatty is a discontinoued item, you can purchase pieces for it from any seller.
Its healed itself because plastic is flexible and it took its original shape after some rest.

If you want to avoid this situation again, then please dont put wire around the neck of the plastic. Just put wire in one slot and then on the other slot and you will be ok:)

scott after watching imeo on vttalk the other nite he mentioned about the thick wick being tested by someone independant and was told not to use it anymore and only supplies of CE2 wick are now available which is the thinner stuff you recived.

imeo cam in the uk never seems to have spares in as ive been after 2 spare sets of both plastic parts for my 2 i-attys incase i have a problem with mine at some point.

Scott, there have been a few instances of the bottom plastic 'swelling' for unknown reasons. My iAtty's original bottom plastic suffered the same fate, I have replaced it with a new one (actually the second new one, so this is number 3) The one I have now works perfectly everytime, the first two both swelled. Replace the bottom plastic and you will be in great shape :)
