I will be 45 in 2 months, and people in their teens and early 20's think 45 is really old, so does that count? I remember when I was 19, and we met this guy who was 34, and we thought he was OLD! Now I'm 10 years older than that guy was.... LOL

Seriously though, do senior citizen smokers seem to warm up to vaping? I figured that many would be leery of it.

For sure! We've been around long enough to recognize a good thing when we see it. (he he). Welcome.

Hi all, I'm 50 and I started smoking at 15. After 2 heart attacks and mild COPD, I finally ordered a 510 with prefilled cartridges. To my surprise, I quit analogs. Then I had a bout with bronchitis and had to quit vaping, because the moist air was bothering me. No I'm vaping full time and have quit analogs totally. The only proble I have now is that I'm addicted to vaping. I has since bought Ego's, a vtube and several bottom feeder mods. I have went to carto tanks and VIVI nova tanks. I started diying my juice and I'm loving it. I don't think I will ever stop vaping.

Hi Novcon - sounds like you fully integrated into not just vaping, but the fun part of collecting too. You're one of the few who have mentioned bottom feeders. I've been vaping since last Sep/Oct and haven't tried that yet.

Hey guys! And Gals too :) 1957, you do the math, it still freaks me out to say it. Yea the car has got some miles on it but the drive is still 20 He he. Been into this for about a month after 40 years or so of a pack and a half a day. I haven't even looked back. Good to meet ya all.

One Day - congrats on making the switch over to vaping. I was 2+ PPd for for 40+ years. It took a couple months to totally switch to vaping, but my old engine has new life since giving up the stinkies.

I think it was Sunday I ordered. Wish I had done it sooner LOL, so it would be here by now :D

I wish I was more handy, but maybe I will get there some day. Stuff like this Phoenix Rebuildable Tank Atomizer interests me so much.

Now I'm wondering if Mike's rolled cotton could be used as a wick in a thingy like this. I know you have to make a coil from special wire and put the wick in there. One of these days, when I've saved enough from switching from analogs and can afford/justify experimenting with something...I'm gonna go for it and tinker til I can do it!

Kat - cotton rolls, cotton yarn, candle wick, and even cheesecloth are all popular for all the rebuildables. The only downside when the coil gums up, it's time for a new setup. You can't dry burn with a cotton wick, the cotton just fries. Some folks try to make their coil so the 'cotton' can just be removed, then dry burn the coil, then thread a new wick through the old coil.

Thanks for the cool knowledge as always Mike!

welcome to this thread Novcon and Just one day :)

Kat that looks just like the CE9 that's being tested in GV alpha. I bought one, got it and promptly did a PIF. You might want to check what people are trying to do with it on the GV alpha thread. I think there are other, better devices out there for trying out DIY wick and coils.

Mike, it seems your mind works kind of like mine LOL Have you thought about using a roll of cotton gauze (for bandages) instead of cheesecloth for wicks? Clean, sterile, no boiling and a nice convenient size for cutting up and making wicks.

and would someone tell me how to use the multi-quote function? Do I check off the "+ on each and then use "reply to thread" ?

We're camping right now and I didn't bring the Viva along. I'm going to pick up some of the cotton roll while we're here so I can try it when we get home. Is it hard to get the cotton in over the silica wick.

Not hard at all Fran. On one of the heads I did this too, I didn't even remove it from the tank. Just took the top cup off, laid the cotton roll across the slots in the head and gently pushed it into position with a toothpick. My 1st one, I didn't even bother to make the little "V" cuts.

It was working so well, I did another one that was taken apart and cut the "V"'s in the second one. Hint for cutting: put the cup in place, then take a fine tipped marker and put a little dot on the cup where the slots are in the head. Remove and make the "V" cut. Perfect alignment when putting it on over the cotton roll. Screw the top cap/drip tip back on carefully so it doesn't 'spin' the cup and twist the cotton roll.

    Nice idea yiddle!

I don't boil the cheesecloth, I figure that's already food safe. I do boil candle wick and cotton yarn though.

Welcome Highlander, Novcon and Just one day! Always nice to see new people joining in. Lots of good info, great pictures and wonderful folks who are always willing to help. We try to keep this thread focused on vaping so we don't get relocated to the lounge reserved for chats as well as vaping. Hey Nov, I was one of those who accidently quit smoking. I loved smoking, but hated that it was so bad for me. I was so shocked the first day I got my KR808 that I just kept picking it up every time I wanted a smoke. It was so close to smoking, but without all the problems. And a whole new world of flavor opened. Surprise! Haven't had an analog since! I like vaping SO much more than smoking. I'm happy to vape and don't think I'll ever stop.

Don't know about the multi thread but was thinking... Maybe... A piece of SS mesh wrapped around the cotton wick then the coil on top of it... Well just maybe.

Not maybe 'one day' - folks are making hybrid wicks with SS mesh and cotton. And it's variations include the cotton over the mesh to hold more juice at the coil, the cotton inside the mesh to increase wicking and of course having the cotton both inside and around the mesh. You're imagination and hand-to-eye co-ordination are the only limiting factors.

Here's a hybrid wick from my GTUS. It's calledl a Quiqstick (ECF Quiqsworth was one of the 1st to come up with it).
