Hi all. Just ordered a truckload of stuff from Wizard Labs to give DIY another shot. Tried last year with no success. Figured I'd give it another go. Been going through the DIY threads making myself dizzy but picked up some tips that may prove helpful over my last attempts. I'll let you know in a week or so if the supplies will go PIF or not. I do have more confidence this time. Over the past two years I have been through many juices from many vendors and have only been happy with a very small handfull of them. Couldn't get it out of my head that they are the experts. Well now I do not think that way. Took hundreds of dollars to finally get that point, but I'm here now. Most I gave away or trashed. If I keep that perspective in mind maybe I won't give up so easily this time. To me there is a big plus knowing exacly what's in the mix instead of being at the vendors mercy all the time. Wish me luck.
EVIC is in transit and can't wait to fire it up with some home brews!

By-the-way Wally, I can't tell you how much support and encouragement I received from the good people on this thread and the Older People 55 thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/lounge/289745-older-people-55-up-527.html when I was getting ready to attempt DIY. Don't be discouraged again, just ask away and someone here is sure to have some good advice for you.

Thanks for the reminder Janet. I am sure I'll be tapping the wealth of knowledge and experience here when I get rolling.

If you haven't before, be sure to read and study HOOSIER'S BLOG, especially the "Flavoring Levels"! I wish I had known about his blog when I started DIY. I figured if a lil' flavoring is good, a lot is gonna be great... WRONG!

It's all in da percentages.

Also, don't be bashful if you have any DIY questions. Just head on over to the DIT E-Liquid forum for assistance.

Good luck with da mixing and be sure to let us know how you're doing!

Thanks Iffy. I do believe that was my downfall last time. This time I'll be starting light on the flavorings.

Iffy, Old Curmudgeon, how ya all making out with your AGA/DUD/CHid setup. Mine came today, so I cleaned it and made a wick. Waiting on a clear tank (hopefully will be here tomorrow), then I can wind the coil and try it out. I started w/ 60mm of 400SS mesh. Torched the heck out of it, then rolled it to loosely fit in the wick hole, then torched it again. I only torched the wick, I didn't quench it or burn off any juice on it. I tested it with a continuity meter and the meter don't 'beep' at all. I may have over torched though as the wick is darn stiff - about as stiff as when ya quench in water during the torching. That's fine, then I'll get an idea if a stiff wick 'wicks' as well as a softer wick.

I got a nice surprise. I dug out the old Ovale V8 to maybe use some components in a wood box mod I've been thinking about. I put it away when it started giving me the old "5.0" signal and wouldn't work. I had broken the battery door and flooded it with juice and just gave up on it.

I have since gotten some efest 18350 IMR batteries which are shorter then the protected ones I had struggled to fit into the Ovale. Not only do they fit good, the darn thing has been working just fine for the last 3 hrs. It does run hotter than my other VV mods so I've got it at 3.2v using a 2.5ohm T3. Smoking like a locomotive :vapor: Oh, the T3 just fits into the well on the top of the Ovale when using a 510/ego adapter.

Mine just started it's journey from Jersey to the left coast, so until this weekend my mailbox will be… :tumble:
Litecig is usually lightning fast, though.

In the mean time I'll be watching some how-to vids on YT.

I'm also waiting on some classic shaving gear that should arrive this weekend (yet another acquisition disorder I suffer from!) so I'll be REAL antsy come Saturday!

Nice! I'm brush and soap bar myself for slathering up. I never mastered shaving a peach w/ a straight razor, so don't dare get one near my face.

Thanks Iffy. I do believe that was my downfall last time. This time I'll be starting light on the flavorings.

Flavoring is not linear. Twice as much does not taste twice as good.

To begin with a new flavor, I mix 4ml at 20% flavor

and then dilute with unflavored that is the same ratio (70/30 PG/VG, 50/50 PG/VG) and strength as the juice I mixed.

    1.5ml to 15%, (1.1ml of 20% + 0.4ml unflavored)

    2ml to 10%, (1ml of 20% +1ml unflavored)

    1.5ml to 5% (0.4ml of 20% + 1.1ml of unflavored)

    1.5ml remains of the 20%.

I find it better than starting at 5% and adding and adding and then forgetting which one was best. Keep good notes so you can repeat your success!

DO NOT USE DROPS TO MEASURE. THEY ARE NOT ACCURATE. USE A SYRINGE FOR BEST (and repeatable) RESULTS.
Keep notes of EVERYTING so that what you like can be repeated!

I forgot to mention that I use a dripping atty to taste with. I use an IkenVape i306 but any atty will do, as long as you can try a few drops at a time.

Also works well for tasting juices that you are steeping. Try a few drops each week to see if it is improving.

    Relax, Enjoy!

Yeah I would rather add some more flavor to a bland mix than to dump it out and try over..... But I'm not opposed to washing some "I don't know what the f#@? That was" down the drain..... Lol.

I have made a few of those, for some reason I always end up adding menthol/mint or cinnamon to it, it covers up the what the f*&^% was that taste. LOL
