Addiction is a funny thing. People can be addicted to various aspects of smoking; physical, mental, ritual. I have an uncle that smoked for 50 years. He cold-turkeyed 10 years ago. I haven't had a cigarette for one year, one month and one day now. I saw him recently, he good-naturedly chides me for still vaping after I have quit smoking. During the discussion he commented to me the if he smoked one cigarette right now, he would be smoking again immediately. I thought how horrible it must be, to still have that hanging over your head for ten years.

I pointed out to him that I don't want a cigarette, and after not smoking a while, I think they are very unpleasant. He didn't understand that, either. Perhaps he should start vaping!
That is exactly the reason those cold-turkey zealots disturb and upset me so much...
I am pretty sure many of them still think about/crave/want a cigarette every now and then, if not constantly.

They firmly believe (the zealots) that they are doing people a favor by warning them off electronic cigarettes...
--Talking a bunch of garbage about how you're still addicted to the nicodemon
--Pretending like they are so happy they are no longer a slave, when I know many still are

That's no life for me.

I quit smoking cold turkey, and it was ok the first week- I was in the hospital, on heavy pain meds, and unable to move, so, yeah, that first week worked out pretty well, and since nicotine is out of your system pretty quickly once you aren't smoking anymore, I figured it would be less painful than the other times I'd tried to quit once I got home as well.

Almost immediately I knew it wasn't going to work. I wanted a cig every time I was stressed, and while I could talk myself down most of the time, I found an old pack of smokes and started cheating again within days. The taste made me sick, and I couldn't handle more than a few drags, but I still wanted to smoke. It was incredibly frustrating, and I was not willing to fail again.

I don't particularly care if it means I'm weak willed, or have no self discipline, yadda yada yadda... I needed to quit, and I needed help, and I found what I needed to do it, and I'm happy now. That's what matters. Happy and healthy trumps pride for me.

Cold turkiers can keep their badges of honor, and I'll keep my PV. If I break my ankle, I'm not going to go walking around on it without crutches just to prove I can deal with the pain either; so sue me, I'm not Chuck Norris. What I am is an ex-smoker. And that's awesome.

This reminded me of a recent comment, "It's just a crutch, isn't it!". My reply was that if I had a broken leg, I would gladly use crutches and I didn't think anyone should fault me for using a crutch to get healthier.

I could have spoken my mind, however, it was plain that she did not understand my situation. In the past I had tried everything possible to quit smoking. I was a very reluctant smoker. I will use anything to help me quit. So call me Gimpy, I don't care!

I'm under no delusions. I started vaping last year. I didn't have a cigarette for 4-5 months. None, zilch, nada, not a single cigarette. Then we had a family crisis. We lost 2 members of our very small family within a 2 week period. I didn't have my backups, I didn't have cartos ready to go, I left the house for 2-3 days without having a nic fix ready to go. I bought a pack of Marlboros and within a week I was back to a pack a day. It can happen that fast.

Now when people say I'm obsessed with my vape gear, I just smile. Yes, I am. I have to make sure I have clearos, cartos, batteries, and liquid ready to go at any moment. If not, I can be right back in the arms of the baccy beast. I know that. I admit that. Whether that makes me weak or not, it's the truth. I accept it, and keep myself stocked in alternative delivery methods accordingly.

Edited to add: I should mention that the family members that passed were both due to smoking.... COPD and lung cancer, and STILL I turned to cigarettes when I didn't have a sufficient vape.

I think knowing your limitations and taking responsibility for saving your own life are definitely signs of true strength.

I tried cold turkey about 10 yrs ago and it lasted for 6 months and I gained about 20lbs. This time around I'm almost at my 9 mo mark and I'm doing awesome and not one single lb gained. I can breath, exercise, taste, and much more. If u can quit cold turkey with no issues. More power to you but i have not one single problem with the method I choose. As long as the end result is no more analogs....I can live with that :)

Only if I've lost it in which case I'm lost. Well, to be honest, I did drive away from the office today to get my afternoon delight, iced tea, and realized I left it on my desk. I actually got through the entire 8 minutes it took to get the tea and get back to my desk, whew, close one.

Lol, i find myself with mine in my hand constantly, I have question, that PV on your avatar, what is that? looks cool

Hell...I wear my pv like a badge of honor! I have quit smoking! In my opinion, cold turkey, Nicorette, the patch, vaping...it really doesn't matter how you do it.

Mine rarely leaves my hand, and when it does, it is always within arms reach. I don't sleep with it in my hand, but it is on my night table.

I taught a 2.5 hour class tonight and it sat on the podium next to the computer. I didn't vape it, but it made me feel secure knowing it was sitting right there.

My husband loves that I am vaping and gives me no grief at all! I am really lucky.he doesn't even say anything about the fact that I have turned my end table next to my chair/sofa into a vape stash...bottles...clearos...batteries...etc. Hell there is barely room for a couple of glasses of water...

I just bought a new coffee table this evening at IKEA. It's easily a foot wider than my old oval one (and rectangular which adds usable space as well) ... it also has the 2nd lower shelf. Might start using that 2nd shelf to hold things near by, but semi out of sight. I live alone and currently have no pets, so no worries about the wrong people getting into the stuff.

Tho I still want to find a more elegant solution for storing bottles and batteries. I'm working on something in my mind for batteries and charging at least. Just have to get motivated on it.

My solution was already in my home, lucky for me. I have a hinged coffee table that the top lifts up and there are storage compartments right there, it was just a matter of adding in a few little wood pieces myself to make things nice and neat in there. Pllus the top lifts to the perfect height to turn it into a desk so I can fiddle with all the stuff I have, even though it isn't a great lot of stuff lol

Going to guess no kids, cats, 8lb or 170lb dogs right? Lol

Correct. Just me and a few house plants. I'm considering some kittens at some point, and when that happens, I will reevaluate my vaping supplies, but then again I have to reevaluate the whole apartment at that point. :p

Remember Hawkeye, cats are not your pets. You are THEIR pets!

My calico that now lives with my parents in GA agrees. They took her when I had an apt that was no pets. I can have pets here, but up in GA she's become quite the indoor/outdoor cat, and I think it would be too cruel to make her indoor only again at this apt complex. So I will just get others. As mentioned I live alone, and I work some crazy hours some times, so I'm going to get 2 kittens so they can entertain each other when I am working. (And drive me nuts when I'm not, but that's expected)
Sorry for the photo spam. Just couldn't decide which to upload. :p

I quit cold turkey a couple times...6 months to a year...SO easy to hop right back into it. This new world is the best. I can slowly lower my nic levels and not feel like I am missing out. By the time I am ready to stop (if I don't just keep going at 0mg), the cig part won't be what I miss and if I slip it would be the PV I pick back up. I hope.

Either way, getting the benefits of quitting without the problems it awesome.

When I spoke to my doctor about cutting back on the nic level, he told me to take it REALLY slowly, like only a mg per month or so. I am working on it, but everytime I lower my nic level, I just end up vaping myself silly.

I still prefer the term "vape your eyeballs out" :)
