I have a question for those of you with more time & experience with the orion than I. What have you determined your favorite set up to be? 28 gauge kanthal wrapped 5/6?
I realize there are a number of variables even beyond the coils but that's what I'm curious about. I'm looking for thick 2 second draws, have every gauge of kanthal and have been trying a million different set-ups but am still looking for the ideal. I notice throughout the thread many keep tweaking it to improve things here & there and and test out different suggestions/techniques. I'm just really curious what, at this point, you'd say is the best set up for you right now. I imagine whatever allows me the most coils with a resistance of around 1.0-1.2 would be ideal.

Try a 3/4 wrap of 30 Kanthal A1, should give you 1.2 ohm. If you have it use #500 mesh, 60 wide.

Hey all, finally took the plunge and decided to try out a hybrid. Received my Orion V2.1 in the mail today and finally think I got my coil set up. Not to sure what size wire I received from the seller but did a 4/5 wrap. Popped my first coil and after wasting a full tank got the second one set up. Don't have the vapor I want but the taste and throat hit are awesome. Maybe someone could give me an idea on the coil situation. I seem to get a hot spot on the top coil and have the hardest time getting rid of it. Plus my washers already turned black.

Make sure you have at least a couple threads showing on the nut/screw for the positive post, otherwise, tighten that nut down a little. That usually cures the top hot spot.

Looking at it now, I have no threads showing on the nut. It is flush. Will tighten it down and see what happens.

nj1001- I'm fond of 1.3 ohm, .17 mm twisted kanthal, 4/3 wrap. Still my fave after a year of the Orion. The twisted wire produces more depth of flavor and the vapor feels like it has more body, richer. I too like shorter, quicker draws. YMMV.

kim151- shorts will blacken the innards quickly. Tighten the positive nut to compress the spring and get a better connection. Two threads showing above the nut should do it.

Vapor: is you air inlet lined up with the wick? Are you wrapping your coil high on the mesh?

@VW Crypto. It does look very nice, but I passed. I passed on the drip tops also. I love my Orions, but just use them as is. I probably should get a little something for one of them, but I just haven't for whatever reason.
