I am with shooter.
I had been speaking with him about beadblasting but I think it would make the finish different than what it is.
Les has left a machine finish like zen and others do.
the reason it looks different is the stainless is 303 and not 316 like zen.

I think scotch-brite may be the best thing to do.
go to your local hardware store and ask for the finest one.
I think its a dark redish one.
being the cap is already scared no harm in brushing it to see if you like it.
worst case find a new top cap

looks like maroon, grey, and white
grey being super fine
white light duty
maroon general purpose

I have used maroon many times on car stuff and its probably the one I would use
you could start with a finer one and go rougher if needed

I melted my top center pin isolator! Any idea where I can get a replacement or what I can use to replace it?

Just a page or two back, jolly rodger referenced a post by me on the exact part your looking for on mcmaster carr.

Sent from my Samsung S III running on SS mesh and kanthal.

Received my shield today. Doesn't fit. Either the tank that came on many Orion has a tad bigger OD or the ID of the shield is off. Hopefully the glass tanks I have coming will work with this shield. :(

Sent from my Samsung S III running on SS mesh and kanthal.

My orions came with glass tanks and my shielsld cap works witg them, only gripe about the shield cap is the finish is a little darker than either of my orions

Cool. Thanks guys. Anybody happen to have any that I could get off of them so I don't buy a whole pack?

I'm still waiting for my shipment to arrive from Amazon. There's a lack of detail in regards to the dimension of the product, so i wont be able to tell if its a perfect replacement, or if it doesn't work at all. If i happen to get them in this week(and they work), i will pm you, and send some your way.

Here's what I ordered btw, Metric 6/6 Nylon Screw Insulator M2 x 3mm Length (Pack of 100): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

You are a kind soul. Thank you. Do you want me to send you some money to help cover it?

Nah, no worries. I just hope that i receive them soon. I had melted mine also, but still use the orion. Its just a matter of me cleaning out the condensation more frequently.

BTW, why do these thing melt anyways? Is it because of shorts, or running a low ohm coil? any tips on preventing this from happening again? I also noticed that my top cap would get pretty warm while chain vaping on a 50mm wide mesh with 7/6 wrap 28AWG kanthal A1.

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys, but it has to do with the heat generated at the coil being to hot from us vaping it. Personally I made too low of an ohmage on my coil. That is what melted mine.

At least let me cover the shipping.

yes, I lowered my heat (went to 30 AWG, 3/4 running at 1.2 ohm), now no more issues and the batties last a lot longer

That's what i think happened to mine. How does one go about measuring the ohms of the coil while its on the device? is it even possible to measure it while its on the device? I was hoping to test the ohms before inserting the wick to the coil.

I make my wick, and coil using a variation of the "Petar K" method. I screw the wire down, insert the bit into the wick hole, then wrap the coil as tight as i can around the bit, and finally sandwich the other end of the wire between the nut and the 2 washer. I find that this doesn't allow the coil to expand while wrapping it around the drill bit.

Hope that this all makes sense.
