oh ok thank you crack3done.. i have a 30 kanthal a-1 that just arrived a few days ago. i will try the peter k method. what is the drill bit size that you use may i know to wrap the coils? and did you mean 5/6 of 30 is 1.05ohm? And does the wick need to touch the coils or be wrap just tight but not too tight? sorry i ask so many questions but i have been trying for 2 days and i went back to my lavatube till i get another mesh shipped to me which i just ordered.

The mesh you have will probably work just fine. it's ok, we have all been there, and emonty has been kind enough to always politely answer our questions and never yell at us :p

Well the wick hole is 2.5mm. I now use a 2.45mm drill bit rod. But, you can use anything you have laying around. Even a toothpick would probably work.

No, I meant 28, I only use 28. So I'm not sure on the ohm for 30, but is shouldn't be to far off. Maybe add 0.1ohm to what I said for 28. Seems like a reasonable guess on my part.

The wick does need to touch the coils, but you shouldn't have to force it into the coil.

May I ask what you are using for a torch?

oh ok thank you. Am using a butane touch. If that's what it's called ;) i'm getting about 2.0 ohms for the coils reading. Below is the set up and i have used your oxidizing method that you taught me. It is much better now ;)

Glad it's working better. Please allow a little bit more wick above the coil (acts as a juice reserve and you will be less likely to get a dry hit when chain vaping). Flush with the top nut is a good height to aim for.

Good looking coil! Keep at it!

Picture of the torch?

I use a propane or map/pro torch. This could be a big reason why you are having trouble oxidizing.

This is my torch i'm using, is this ok to use? And i should have give more space for the wick like you mentioned to act as a juice reserve. it makes sense, point noted ;) thank you for taking the time to explain my mistakes. really appreciate it.should i also reduce the wrap as my ohm reading is current at 2.0 after i subtract 0.8 from what i get when just putting the black and red probe together?

...torch is pictured in background... Great looking coil :)

I would come down a wrap or two to get it in the 1.3Ω range. ETA: Agree with above... more wick above the top coil to act as a "reservoir".

thank you jollyrogers, i will bring the wrap down and give more wick space. guess this is what happens when you start vaping and in less than 2 weeks jump to vape on an orion :p even before learning the basics

Its ok. It's learning process. I thought that was the torch in the background. Just wanted to make sure. Yeah, thats fine.

I agree with Jolly, I see you have a 6/7 wrap, come down to 4/5 and see how you like that! :)

Ok i thought it was a 5/6 wrap, didn't know it was a 6/7.i will try again with a longer wick and lesser wrap to see how it goes for me. I will update in a while ;) thanks

Well I guess that all is hinged on which side of the screw you placed the wire. I'm guessing that it is on the outside of the screw which would make it a 6/7 wrap. if it's on the inside of the screw then it's a 6/6 wrap. question though, what is that little thing that you have covering the second wick hole?

Sent from my Samsung S III running on SS mesh and kanthal.

ok i have done a 4/5 wrap and it's getting better and better but now, previously the draw was airy and it's now tight lol... and that thing on the other screw is a small metal piece to help stop leaking problems and as a smaller hole than what is there.

you can try the cover on the fill hole, but ventilation is circular, and when juice is drawn out of the tank, it must be replaced by air (the open fill hole) or you're creating suction and fighting your juice wicking.

also, if your leads meter 0.8, then a 2.0 reading on your coil should be 1.2ohms.

Do you have any M2 nuts laying around? Try setting it up like I have mine. No spring or washers. Just pinch the wire between two nuts.

plan on doing this as well... the whole spring/washer design has to be the worst solution i've seen.... but i'd like to figure out what's up with my switch.

Well, the reason I brought that up is because it SEEMED like i was having a switch problem, just like that. Turned out to be a connection problem up top, never had any more issues with it feeling like I need to press the switch harder or that my battery is dying in mid vape since I ditched the spring and washers. Worth a try mate.

Just got my Orion that I purchased off the classifieds, love it. Have it setup with 28 awg kanthal, 4/3 wrap & 500 ss mesh (still trying to workout the best width to start with for the wick), still hitting like a truck and no dry hits with 100%vg. I'm actually liking the Rat Bog top cap over the stock (air hole is lower). Had to sand down one of the tanks to get it to align without the oring, but its working great right now. Love this mod in 18350 mode.

could be right, initially i was having short issues (surprise! it's an orion right...) and my top hardware has some oxidization.

thanks man.

Yup. No problem. I love my Orion. It is my fav hybrid out of all of them. It works flawlessly since I did that. The oxidation on the washers is exactly what I pinpoint as the culprit. It comes from the low ohm coils we like. Coils that are 1.2ohm and higher don't seem to do this to the washers.
