Ovale V8 VV discussion!

I open the v8 no loose wires..... I did see connector area in the middle o ring seems to be really squeezed so i popped the middle post and installed again everything is working find but i can't screw vivi nova tank all away down..

I tried to do the same, it now does not reset to 5.0 (shows whatever voltage it is set at) but still won't fire. Can ANYBODY who has had success in fixing the v8 short/not firing issue PLEASE tell me more precisely what I have to do to get it working? Thanks

I really like my V8, but the rubber smells like the bottom of a new running shoe.
When I take a vape, it affects the taste of the vape because of the hose hit.
Has anyone done anything to get rid of this 'new tire' smell?

That's weird. I have an early V8 in matte blue and the new "ohm checker" version in matte black and didn't have that problem with either one of them. I just huffed my black one - no discernible odor. lol

How long have you had it? The only thing I can suggest is leaving it alone - just letting it air out and see if the odor dissipates.

That's odd. I have the rubberized finish VV Gripper and my husband and I both have the rubberized finish V8s....we tried mightily to smell the rubber smell just now. We don't detect it, however. Not at all..on any of the devices. Strange. Wonder if we just have defective olfactory capabilities or something? But I don't think so...since we quit smoking it's astounding the smells we are smelling now! lol! Sorry...no help here, I guess.

Just letting it sit out in the air ought to help I would think. Maybe it's the juice that has the off smell to it? Or the clearo you are using or something? Not saying you're wrong about the rubberized coating on the V8. I've just never heard anyone mention that before...lots of devices have rubberized coating on them. Hmmm.

Hmmm... There's lotso different textures like this I've run across on all sorts of consumer goods. I've never looked for the stuff for use in a DIY project but the first thing that comes to mind is checking out what Krylon makes these days in the spray paint department. If not there, then hobby supply sites and art supply stores.

[EDIT:] To amplify: You are probably thinking along the same lines I was. I know a hammertone and a wrinkle finish have been around for ages. Then in the 80's (Aahhh - the decade to produce a lot of... stuff.) they came out with this god-awful 2 part, 2 color, spray-on stuff that produced random textured bumps or flecks in the final finish. I'm pretty sure that last one was by Krylon. Kind of the "let's fix ugly with confusion" approach to spray paint and home decor. If they came that far (gag) by the 80's someone must have come up with a spray matte finish by now.

The other thing I ran across a long time ago was a rubberized "dip" - in red only. It's a jar of glop you dipped tool handles into to give them a rubber type hand grip. At the time MCM Electronics carried it.

I bought it a week or two ago on the Arizona deal. Both are the matte black, both smell like new running
shoes. It's not like I can smell it a mile away, but when I put it to my face to vape, it's there. I can live
with it, and it will probably go away some day, but for now, it's confusing my senses.

Same place both me and Fourthrok got ours. I just went back to mine to check again - zero odor coming off either the matte or the shiny one I got there.

Anything else of what you got from AVT smell like that too? The Ovale box itself or the mailer? I'm wondering if the package was exposed to "something" while in transit. (My matte one was just in a flimsy clear bag inside the bubble mailer.)

The problem is I can't think of anything to try that doesn't risk making it worse in a different way. Changing it from "rubber" to "floral" isn't what you are after, like from wrapping in a dryer sheet or spraying it with an odor remover. And after two weeks... I don't get what's going on.

Have you tried just wiping the outside down with a cloth and plain water? Or soapy water from dish washing liquid?

Febreze it... Lol I also got mine from azvaportrails and there's no odor at all...very strange indeed.

It didn't pick up any 'outside' odor. It's just the 'new car smell'. I didn't think twice
about it the first time I noticed it. But after a few days of using it, I got tired of it.
I'm sure with use, it will go away. I'm gonna try wiping it with a wet rag, but I doubt
that will help remove the smell any more than wiping the bottom of a new running
shoe would remove that same smell.

Yet again I must reiterate how much I freakin love this thing... I've used nothing else since I got it...charge overnight and it lasts all day, hits like a....beast...and despite the stupid ribbon and peeling rubber is by FAR the best thing I ever bought... Just wish I'd gotten the last kit too so I'd have 4 instead of coming here and blabbing about the awesome deal I just got lol.

After using the v2 version for the last couple of weeks, the battery compartment design is the only negative I have. And even here, it may be just the springs they use, maybe too tall and a bit too flimsy. The low ohm cutoff could be a bit lower, mine doesn't fire below 1.4 ohms. It's a pretty minor nit though and doesn't take away from the build quality, the solid 510 connector and the nice feel in the hand. I'm liking this device more and more.

Yeah..putting the batteries in is a bit of a pain. With one of the V8s (the rubberized one) I don't have quite as much trouble. Most times I can get the battery in without folding the spring over. But not always. With the shiny one it seems I have to use a credit card (using an expired bank card for the purpose) every time..no matter how careful I try to be. But I'm getting used to it. Not like you have to change out the batteries that often, really.

I looked around online a bit and the MorningStar IS a early version of the Ovale...the V6. PBusardo did a review and his only thumbs down on it was the shape of the bottom (which we all know is weird), and the "flimsy" plastic for the price at the time (a kit back last Feburary was $60! And the V6 is incremental VV...not full range like the V8!) Otherwise he seemed quite impressed with the vape and liked it. So he wouldn't give a final grade "thumbs up" or "thumbs down". Since the negatives he mentioned are either moot at this point or things I already know about the device....I think it'll be okay. I'll report back if anyone is interested. Should get it by this weekend.

For the Groove to work for me, it would needs to last 16 hours plus of full-time vaping at at least mid-range Voltage as it is not vapable while charging. Having two Grooves to manage the charging is not very likely for me at this time. Having two sort of kicks it out of the bargain category.

The biggest thing against the Groove (or the MVP for that matter) is the proprietary battery. Basically...they are "disposable" because once the battery goes...the whole thing becomes pretty much worthless unless you are into trying to rebuild a new mod with the innards. Not the sort of thing I'm likely to do. MVP has an edge in that it can act as a passthrough. But there are other drawbacks..like no ohm checker and only a rudimentary (how reliable?) battery level checker. I just don't see either as being worth the prices being asked for them.

You can get a V8 with all the bells and whistles for about $30 (provided DV gets them back in...something that might be in question with Eric. PLEASE post on his "Product Requests" thread on the Discount Vapers forum and ask for them back!!) and if one is willing to use the 16340 batteries...you can get a set of two for about $7 or $8. If you go with the 18350s...about $10-$12 for a set. Say you already have a charger ...most with APVs do...then that's about all you need outside your atomizer/juice delivery system. Some vendors have free shipping. So...bottom line is you could get another V8 with a set of batteries between $38 to $42 dollars plus shipping. If you get two sets of batteries...it'd be $46 to $$54 plus shipping. I still believe that to be a MUCH better deal than the Groove or the MVP! The V8 is just such a grand little APV! Like Darkhood said...it's like being a member of a select club or something. WE know what we have with these little guys. And we can smile knowingly while others just don't understand.....
