Welcome Drop Dead Fred! As you can see there is a wealth of help and information here. Just look around, ask questions and find something that you are comfortable with. I too started with an over the counter e-cig I bought at a gas station. That got me started and slowed my smoking down so I started looking around for something that would be easy to use, not be overwhelming in size and technology ( didn't want to spend all weekend fiddling around with something). This is what I ended up with and it works perfect for ME. I smoked menthols and got their 24mg menthol and it as appeased any craving that has come up. Series 3 - V2 Cigs
Again, find something that is YOU and good luck, you CAN do this, I swear it works. Been smokin 45 years and I quit!

If you don't want to move "up" and you like cartridges check out Indoor Smokers on YouTube. He talks about a brand of e-cig that he uses that has a bigger battery & the company also makes cartridges.

I am not trying to be stealth but I'm not sure if the company is an ECF supplier. So this would be easier. Also, he has really good info & explanations for new vapers.

We tend to think about how much vaping costs when you are starting up, but forget that we spent lots of money on cigs before vaping. Once you quit smoking you have a budget that can be transferred to vaping. Hardware costs can be one time or ongoing, depending on how quick you find your daily vape in juice and hardware.

I smoked 2 PAD. I bought cartons for about $40. 6 cartons a month was over $200 even if I looked for bargains and clipped coupons. That's a healthy ecig budget to experiment with, but if you do it right and buy the right stuff first, the leftover money stays in your pocket.

Count me in with the people that can't believe you lasted 6 months on Blu. I tired one and was smoking ciggs again that day. When I got a real tank and battery I was able to stop the ciggs immediately. The vapor, taste and battery life is so much better. I charge and fill my tank each night and I'm good to go for the entire next day.

So I tried Blu ecigs out for about 6 months. They were good for a while, but my main gripes are that: battery only lasts for about 50 puffs, and its actual life lasts maybe 2 months if I'm lucky. After that, its completely broken. The worst part I would say is that the cartridges are advertised as 150 puffs-200 puffs, but I only get about 50 puffs from it, then it dies. Not to mention, 1 out of every 5 I use, the cartridge is defective in some way (won't work at all, or requires me to puff on it super hard to get a hit).

I said all of the above so that people can recommend some good products based on what I am looking for. I am reading about tanks and cartomizers and have no idea what they really are or do. I checked out a kanger starter kit on their website, saw the tank and the battery, but I didn't see any liquid with the kit. Am I supposed to go to a different website and buy the liquid for it?

If someone could direct me to a reliable, quality starter kit, that would give me everything I need to vape, I'd really appreciate it. Going from the simplicity of blu cigs to these more high end products is a little overwhelming for me since I am really new to vaping. Thanks
Welcome, Drop Dead Fred. I'm here for the same reason. I got tired of frittering my hard-earned $$ away on that Blu.

Thanks to the amazing peeps in this Forum and my old pal Evil-bay, I'm so happy I kicked Blu to the curb. [emoji6]
No worries...you'll get there.

Welcome Fred, and I can't believe you quit on Blu's I tried one and I wanted a ciggie afterwards...KUDDOS!!!

and if I had to do it all over again, get an Innokin MVP 2 (the lil box about $40 on ebay w/shipping) it comes with an iClear 30 and call it day. It'll be markedly better than those blus.

After I ordered a Kanger pro2 tank or even better a Mega (we're about to get the V2 in so it'll probably be that for the best taste, variable volt, vv and wattage ww is important for taste, each juice has their "sweet spot" where they taste the best. A little vision spinner (1600mah) for on the go 2 if you need one whilst the other's charging, and I like the Nautilus (or mini) with mine, it fires it up on the go quite well (or the Kanger tanks)

my preferred setup a MVP with a Kanger Mega (although that thing sure sucks the juice so we'll see with the V2)
thanks to some folks recommendations on here.

oddly enough this is the largest searchable repository of ecig/juice information on the web. :)

Hey Fred, looks like everyone here has you well taken care of! So I will say welcome and good luck with your new setup, I hope you find it enjoyable. I promise it's all much easier than it seems at first, you will be so glad you upgraded and you will also be more satisfied than you ever were with blus.

Keep us informed with what you end up getting and just ask if you have any questions.

I don't know if there's an up to date "New Vapers Area", but there are lots of blogs that contain the stories of people who searched and found the Holy Grail of hardware and juice for themselves. I'm sure there's lots to absorb in the 1000+ pages of blogs here.

When I first started trying to quit I used cig a likes too and tried one's with replaceable cartridges and disposable blu e cigs. I had the same problem I bought replacement cartriges and some never worked, battery life sucked or wouldn't work after a month or 2. So I know where you're coming from when I started vaping I skipped a small step and went for a 1300 mah variable voltage 510 pen device with a battery that lasted me 4-8 hrs but it wasn't enough and I needed to vape when it was on the charger. I later got another variable voltage device, this one only 900 mah but the difference was it had a pass through charging feature, so you can vape on it while it charges and had a small lcd screen to show battery life and voltage. Having that device really helped since I was almost never without a vape.

I love ecf. Always so many helpful people!
Welcome! How did you like your Vape store? Good I hope.

A few comments about previous posts:
True pass through does Vape strait off the input power, however most devices are Vape and charge, so you are vaping off the battery while it is charging. Not a big deal, but it takes longer to charge.

Nic level: the ego style vaporizers are much more efficient than blu as nicotine delivery devices. I would drop your nic level by 6 from what you where vaping with blu. If you where vaping 24 drop to 18, if 18 go to 12, and so on.
Most common nic level seems to be 12mg.

One big thing that I usually see everyone say is "backups for your backups" things are more reliable now, but I still always never far from a second device incase my primary fails. If you don't have two your backup device becomes regular cigarettes, and you don't want to fall down that hole again, right?

I started with a ton of stuff because I didn't like something so I bought something else. After a few weeks this is what I landed on:
Ego 1300 mah with a USB charger (pass through charging)
Ego 900 mah spinner (variable voltage )
Kanger evod
Kanger protank 2 mini (when I started about a year ago this just came out, but still a decent vape)

I had 2 evods on hand and 2 protank as I liked to change juice a lot.
That setup lasts some people a year or more. I'm an early adopter so I jumped on the apv (next step up from ego is advanced personal vaporizers) and rebuilding train and haven't looked back!

What I would recommend from today's tech:
Egos are tried and true. The iTaste vv seems to be recommended a lot. So maybe an ego 900 spinner (20) and an iTaste vv2 or 3 (60, 36).
OR:
$50-60 If you are good spending the money, everyone loves the mvp2. My buddy has one and its his only device (aside from a 900 mah spinner he has for a backup but hasn't needed for 3 months). There will be a bit more of a learning curve than with an ego, but you'll likely be more satisfied. The box shape isn't for everyone I guess, but you can't beat the 2600 mah battery for the money! Vape all day and charge at night. And you can still Vape on it while it's charging! I hear the tank they come with isn't that great though.

$35 Aspire natalus mini for a tank. Again, I don't have one but all the reviewers love this thing! Get the bvc replacement heads <$15 for 5 pack) (bottom vertical coil), they are said to last a month or so.
you could probably start with some evod tanks as they are cheap and still commonly recommended. Not the best Vape in the world, but if it works for you, who cares?!
One note on the heads, they can die out pretty fast. My brother in law changes his every few days. They are around $2 each I think.

Eliquid: no one can tell you what you like. Try your local stores varieties and get a few you like. Sounds like you are already on that though!
Mountbakervaper is an online juice vendor with great prices. Their juice isn't as good as some of the premium vendors, but it's great to get some flavor and try them until you nail down what kinds of flavors you like.

One last piece of advice, ALWAYS check out reviews on YouTube before you buy anything. Grimmgreen, Pbusardo, rubyroo, riptrippers, indoorsmoker all have decent reviews, and I'm sure there are others. Personally I prefer Pbusardo and grimmgreen...

Sorry for this novel, I hope some of this is helpful.

Hi I know your likely to get a hundred different suggestions but I'm hoping my suggestion will help you out. Write down what is important to YOU. If it's battery life, big vapor, easy to carry, lots of flavor ect and look for a mod and tank with those atributes. When I first started vaping I too was using blu. It taught me what I DID NOT want in a vaping system!! I went through several more devices until I figured out what I really wanted out of my vape equipment. I'm now very happy with my rebuildable atomizer which gives me great vapor and flavor and my ipv2 50 mod which does exactly what I want it too.I took my needs and wants and learned what I needed to do to acomplish my vaping goals. I even learned to make my own coils which I love doing, and I now make my own juice because saving money was a issue. My point is , know what is important to YOU then seek equipment to meet your specific needs. You will be much happier in the long run if you set out to meet your vaping needs right away. So my suggestion to you is make a list of what you want out of your device and find a device to meet your specific needs. Maybe even give yourself room to grow with your device. Something that also might handle your future needs as you grow in your vaping journey. This will help save you money in the long run. If you get something that will grow with you you likely won't be seeking new equipment so often.I really hope this helps you out. I wish you the best .

She has a lot of good points here!
My only concern is rebuilding and such isn't for everyone. A LOT of people use egos and stick with them for a good while. A LOT of people have been using MVPs for a good while with no need to upgrade.

No one can tell you what works for you. All we can do is make suggestions.
Like she said, get some idea what you want, look at reviews and products and come back here with any questions you may have!

I recommended a pass through, the reason why is because the ability to charge and vape and yes some take power off the battery like you said, I completely forgot about that, but the micro usb cable for charging is more reliable and can easily be replaced or shared with other devices if broken. With the dongle charger if it breaks and most do and some rather quickly if you can't make it to a vape shop and don't have a working spare you're SOL, but with a micro usb, you can use one from a phone, tablet, camera etc, and it can be bought at 24 hour stores or certain gas stations or convenient stores. It's a better way IMO to stay of cigarettes.

I had a Vision Spinner as my first 510 device and I kept it for 3-4 weeks and went through 3 chargers and later gave it to my friend and he went through 2 chargers in a week or 2 and gave up, so I usually tell people to look into a pass through. Since you won't be stuck without a vape....well unless you run the battery down to auto shut off mode then you'd have to charge it and wait about 5-15 mins to vape, but still easier than waiting for a dongle charge.

Ok so the aspire link for instance. That item and a bottle of juice is all I need in order to vape? Looking at the juice I found a few other questions to ask.

How long will a 15ml bottle last approximately? 200 puffs? 300?

What strength does the average former smoker use? Im thinking of going for the 6mg.

And finally, these flavors are kind of crazy. How is anyone supposed to know what unicorn blood or krakenberry tastes like? lol. I'm assuming you can take your tank that you bought from one place, and use liquid from another company, right?

Funny! I'm with you on the names. Seems like a lot of companies are coming up with names that have nothing to do with the flavor...at least I hope so as actually vaping unicorn blood or smurf juice would be weird even if it were possible!
Do you have a local vape shop you can go to? Granted some are better than others, but if there is a decent one in your area they should have a tasting bar so you can try out flavors before you commit. If they are a good shop they will also help you with any equipment questions you may have, even if you didn't buy the equipment from them. Even though I buy most things vape related online now I still frequent my local shop for occasional purchases as they have been very helpful in the past.
