the René41 was darkzero's inspiration for making the coil jig.
my point is not the price or its heating abilities - it is that it is a dog to work - it is extremely hard to form into a coil without pliers, jigs, multiple blowtorching etc.
I know this because i tried to wrap it like every other coil i had made prior the first time and it pierces skin and i daresay bone! It is not troublesome if you know what you're letting yourself in for, but if you come at it from using a 30g kanthal microcoil, you're in trouble!

I try not to mention this stuff before people try it, as it's so much more fun to hear about their discovery impalements.

lol well I think I was ahead of the learning curve as I had switched to 24g for my coiling prior to the Rene wire.
As far as being impaled, it went all the way through my finger the first time I wrapped a 24g micro coil lol.

It did! Although it was a lateral pierce and missed everything but the fleshy pad of my forefinger lol. I wrapped it, the let it go and whammy! Right into and out of my first finger on my left hand.

*note to self : don't get any rene wire...
i was going to point out that R41 was used in hot cutting of parts and welding titanium, but those of us that used it already realise that.
I'll wait to see Monkey's thoughts on ponies and R41.

the reason you don't use pure silver coils or copper ones is you need resistance wire i.e a load on the battery, else you just have a dead short and your battery is ruined in the various ways they can!
That's my understanding of it - i'm sure Mundy will be along to correct me, but that's my best guess.
