the apricot is very tough and resilient. Set screw will go a long way to protecting that lip.
With most of the mods, especially the vertical grain ones, leaving a "bottom" in the bottle hole would add very little in strength. However, it's irrelevant because the boring process I've developed doesn't allow for leaving a little at the bottom. One could perhaps change the juice bottle cap to the snap-on design (in the goody bag), and raise the bottle up a few mm., if, say, one wanted to glue a penny in there. How would that affect the lip? Would it warp when the humidity or temp. changed? hmmmmm
When attempting to design a stop-gap feature; it is important that one not create more trouble, work, or unexpected surprises (movement of wood that's glued to metal) than entailed in fixing the occasional problem. More elaborate and time consuming steps in fabrication on 100% of the mods, doesn't make sense in trying to compensate for a few breaks. All of which have been fixed, most very very nicely.
