I put the screw in place within a week. I've dropped it so many times I've lost count, the Santos has a several little dimples and even the copper plate has a dent. Nothing has broken, knock on Dibi wood.

I thought getting the battery out of the top with the o-rings would be a problem, I slap it into my palm and the battery pops right out. I'm sure without the screw in place I would have had breakage.

Yes, he shows them to us to make sure we want them before he sends the invoice and ships them out.

LOL, like anyone has ever said no.:D

OK so that means I'm going to have to keep seeing all these beautiful mods for a long time before it's my turn! That is not very nice... so there is pain and anguish for me for more than a few months.

I know I'm caught in the middle, I cry just a little, when I see a dibi broke. (Replace the lyrics to flo-rida's new take on the old song with mine and you'll know what was in my head).

Damn. I'd be really REALLY sad if that happened to my mod. I feel for y'all.

would it be an idea to place a coin or similar(a tube) under the bottle whether it be broke or not?

I was discussing a piece of tube with Peter, but he brought up a good point.
Wood shrinks and expands with humidity.
Neither of us was sure if being bonded to a tube that doesn't might cause cracking.

This oh so much!! I live in a very dry place (i.e. it hits a high of 40% humidity when it's raining) and my walnut had the body shrink away from the caps and when it started getting really bad I contacted Peter and we went over all the possibilities. Then I realized that since it was winter and very, VERY dry inside I'd wait till the windows were open more before I started cutting...glad I did as the small amount of humidity we get from outside has made both of the caps sit true again. ;)

There may be 100 reasons why this is not an option, but it seems to me that if pdib stopped drilling about an 1/8" shy of the bottom it would provide the necessary stability to keep this part from being weak. Since we're all going to the set screw there is no need for a hole there. Maybe?

I think getting a clean "bottom" to a closed bore would be challenging for one. That and the vertical proportions of the mod would need to grow to absorb that 1/8" and unless that "bottom" was only at the bottle section, the entire contact mechanics would need to be rethunk :)

I was just thinking of the bottle hole not quite finishing. I havent seen mine yet, so I dont know if thete is any room for the bottle set a hair higher or not. wouldnt change the overall length of the mod.

The tolerances on the mod are very tight for operational efficiency and form factor. there is zero play to move the bottle up without increasing the vertical dimension of the mod as I see it :)

the apricot is very tough and resilient. Set screw will go a long way to protecting that lip.

With most of the mods, especially the vertical grain ones, leaving a "bottom" in the bottle hole would add very little in strength. However, it's irrelevant because the boring process I've developed doesn't allow for leaving a little at the bottom. One could perhaps change the juice bottle cap to the snap-on design (in the goody bag), and raise the bottle up a few mm., if, say, one wanted to glue a penny in there. How would that affect the lip? Would it warp when the humidity or temp. changed? hmmmmm

When attempting to design a stop-gap feature; it is important that one not create more trouble, work, or unexpected surprises (movement of wood that's glued to metal) than entailed in fixing the occasional problem. More elaborate and time consuming steps in fabrication on 100% of the mods, doesn't make sense in trying to compensate for a few breaks. All of which have been fixed, most very very nicely.

just got a case of the pre game jitters. its nearly go time. [emoji2]

I'll be so nervous just opening it, I'll probably drop it before I get to vape it.
