This thing looks fantastic! Yet another awesome OliveR Pete!

Now I have one super shiny one and one "natural" one.

Now to buy a couple more LP RM2's (which I should have done before I received this one).

Speaking of checking wood...

Quite a while back, I picked up this piece of black walnut crotch:

It's 2-1/8 x 1-1/2 x 6-1/8, which I think should be big enough. I'd kinda like to get a better feel for what it would look like finished, but I'm afraid to put anything on it other than to slightly dampen it (which is what I did for those pics). Any feedback appreciated.

There's no wood like crotch wood :D

I usually use denatured alcohol to see what it'll look like. It evaporates so much faster. Looks promising to me, would love to see the edges though to better imagine how it will look "in the round".

btw: it'll look really, really good finished. Lots of depth and variation in refraction, I'm guessing.

Well, I don't have any denatured, but I do have some 151 Everclear. It brings out much more of the contrast I would expect to see with an oil or wax finish. However, it doesn't last long and it's difficult to capture, especially in the poor lighting I have available right now. But here are the edges anyway:

BTW, I'm not fixated on using this particular piece when my turn comes up in run number 7; I'm just wondering if this is a worthy candidate. Although I love the look of some of the dyed and stabilized woods, I'm not sure I'd be crazy about the feel of them in my hand. If something is made of wood and meant to be touched, I want it to feel like wood, and I have doubts that the stabilized pieces will?

looking good! glad you snagged it. I thought it was "delivery failed". :)

Btw, it was "delivery failed" because I wasn't home to sign for it, but I stopped by the post office after they closed at 5:00, and sat around until after 6:00 until someone could help me out. They almost couldn't find it, but I have impeccable luck for regular life stuff (just not for lottery or casino stuff), so they found it.

:D

I have to admit... as cool as the REO is... the dibi (Oliver) is on a whole different plane! The squonk hole placement is outstanding IMHO and as we all have heard (and some of us have experienced) the mod is at the top o' the heap in the BF mech world; the silver is a mighty worthy upgrade and well worth the upgrade cost! Go big or go home ;-)
