*Hmmmm, clay* Hey Kogijiki! Can you sculpt me a clay mod with a nice glaze? :D

No. For (at least) three reasons 1) clay shrinks so you have to know the exact shrinkage rate of your clay and sometimes it only shrinks vertically or horizontally 2) You drop it once it will shatter into a million billion pieces 3) It will not handle thermal shock very well (like your atty heats up a lot then cools off...repeat and eventually it will shatter where the atty is...)

Believe me, I've thought about it but it's not a good fit...sorry! :)

I did ask The Evil One if she could make me some drip tips in her pottery class. Would this same principle apply for them?

I do read this thread at least once every day even though I don't post often. It's nice to know you've got my back. :)

Claudia my dearest I'm always here and I know how to find you if your PM box is full here (which is the #1 reason Peter can't contact people, #2 is they have not been here for a long time.) Do not worry, Peter tries everything to track folks down before your spot is lost. :D

:) I have no idea which run I'm in but my number is #229 so I don't expect it to come up anytime soon. lol I wouldn't mind it coming up a bit early but my wallet could stand for it to be a couple of months or so, although if something came up I could manage.

Sometimes 2 people will contact me, asking me to do a direct swap between them. Something they've discussed and arranged for whatever reason. I see no problem with that, as it doesn't effect anyone else. As this has happened a couple times, and I've come to realize it's a good tool and (I think) perfectly fair, I've offered it a couple times to good peeps in need.

Usually, when there's a dropout, I just move down the list, in order, asking, "are you able to go early, or do you want to wait your turn?" *

If there's a really last minute dropout, something that's going upset my schedule, and is frustrating, and will basically cost me money in work time lost or fewer mods produced, I improvise. I might shoot for the next person on the list who I know is actually ready to roll. I might just make a random mod and see who wants it when I'm done. Or I might feel it's an opportunity to insert some chaos of my choosing into the order and fairness that I put all those hours into creating and maintaining. I feel on those rare occasions it's my prerogative.

*currently, due in large part to this, and in some part to increased productivity, I'm doing the fifth actual run of mods; but am half way through "run7" on the list.

it's going to be more than a couple months :(

Let's say I get an average of 10 mods a month (turnaround time included: invoicing, shipping, gathering together the next run, finalizing specs, dropouts compensation).
Then say I'm building #53-62 in July.
Then figure on a 20-30% drop out rate (so your number is really, like. . . . .~170)
SO, as of August first, your number is 110 . . . . .. . at ten mods per month . .. .. . eleven months.
BUT! . . . . .. . that's all just wild speculation.

btw, Claudia P, you did give me your email for backup contact . . .. so, about a month before your turn, I'll PM you, and then email you if I don't hear back.

Hell I've already told my kids(both grown) I'm blowing their inheritance on multiple dibi's.

That's probably a bit excessive, especially considering what MFarley said about it being prone to cracking while drying. In fact, hmmmmm, I think he also said that it takes a gentle approach and an expert hand . . . . or something to that effect. Let's wait til MFar drops by and see what he has to say.
Just, as a general principle:

Not sure what to say....
He has a lot of experience with Australian burls so he may be able to pull it off.
My thoughts are that you have a 50/50 chance. It will either work or it won't.
So if the price is low enough that it won't hurt if it fails then go for it.

Peter, I've got 4 pretty large red mallee burls that have been in my garage shop for about 8 to 9 years. I would be willing to contribute a couple of the larger ones for you to look at\experiment with if you would like to. These are whole burls cut off the side of the tree. Meaning they have one cut side and the rest is not exactly bark but the rough exterior. Burls as you probably know are kinda like a cancerous growth that looks like a lump on the side of a tree. These have been waxed on the cut side which allows them to dry really slowly, not through the cut side but through the rough side. Results in a slow controlled drying. One of them is really big and would probably yield at least a half dozen mods after cutting. Don't want anything in return except if they turn out to be good usable wood save one or two for my runs coming up.
The rest you can divvy up as you see fit. I've made some bowls out of some similar burls and the grain is beautiful.
