Gold plating is not used for contacts that carry any appreciable current.
Gold plating vaporizes easier than silver plating does, and silver sulfide (tarnish) vaporizes before silver does.
Pure silver is good to about 20A, however, due to silvers softness most "silver" contacts are an alloy of silver and another metal.
60% silver and 40% palladium is common.
High amperage contacts are often Silver Cadmium Oxide.

Oh, so like Sterling Silver wouldn't be worth the effort? (solid, not plated)

The more I read about kits and vats and home-plating . . .. the more I'm liking my disposable brass screws. (not saying anything there, just saying . .. . . who knows ;))

where does the silver plating fall into all this. Does it behave like pure silver in terms of withstanding high current?

Actual plating and what is involved like thickness, what needs to be plated before something else is plated, electrolytes used, etc. is beyond me.
What I know is from my years as an electrician and electronics technician dealing with commercially available switches, relays, and contactors.
That is why I bought some commercial surplus silver contacts to play with instead of trying to reinvent the horse.

Sterling silver has copper in it. I think it will tarnish easier and more often than pure silver?

Actually, sterling silver is alloyed with several other metals to ...... tarnishing. Pure silver tarnishes due to mainly sulfur compounds in the air. Sterling will really only tarnish if exposed to a very high concentration.

Speaking of ash, vaping in volcanoes, horse dungin's, golden hay, and screwing gently; sometimes y'all are kind enough to inform others as to where things are at over here (with the list and stuff). To that end, I just wanted to mention that run#14 has a couple slots left in it; and I'm soon rolling into telling folks they're in run #15. (couple more people and then . .. ).

I'm thinking of trying something. I'm thinking of doing a few more mods per run. I've been observing what it is that happens in the course of a batch, and I've come to realize that I may not be able to go much faster; BUT I think I can go MORE-ER. Meaning, I think I can do about 13 mods in just a few days more than I can do 10. So, instead of 10 mods in 3 weeks (which is stubbornly proving to be a month), I'm thinking 13 mods in a month. (do the math . . .. I did . . . it's fun)

So, what does this mean, to fine folk like you and me? Basically, on account of a few folks dropping out in run#3, I'll be doing the rest of 4 and half of 5 in the next batch. And then rest of 5 and ALL of 6 in the batch following. (Mid~Late April starts run#4/5 and Mid~Late May starts run#5/6 . . .. I'm thinkin'). If 13 mods/run proves reasonable, I'll rejigger the designations starting with #7 and on up and report back at such time. (basically, there will be 13 peeps in run#7, 13 in #8, 13 in #9 . .. . and some folks will find that they're in an "earlier" run)

That is all.

Peace out.

Love.

and chitlin's.
