Aalwani, I wouldn't worry too much about selecting wood. I've got others saying "surprise me". Worst that can happen is you don't like what I picked, and then you're first up in next run.

Scandal, yours WAS in there! . . . . :p
(Now you really don't like this game.)

Great then surprise me!!

Here's a snippet of some "ummm" wood, some aluminum, some rich lite, some rubber and some SS.

What do you think of this Mr. Bee?

Bubinga: kiln-dried and planed.

Velvety!!! It's purdy!

But I have a question about those 2 tones that seems more noticeable with this block in particular, not so much with others...

When the line separating the 2 different colored woods is very distinct like that, could that be a place where the wood might naturally split along the grain? Stabilizing would not prevent that if the entire grain line grows along that color change...

One day, Alex.just for the hell of it, I'm gonna have to try this stuff. It seems like everyone you touch is a convert. I feel like the John the Baptist and here walks in Jesus with his fishNd loaves and s****. Really I feel more like tinfoil hat guy on the street corner comparison wise, if were being honest here lol

OK, so I finally got the #2 version/option on the sterling contacts today. I thought I'd follow up on TimK's google-fu with the tattoo gun contacts. They cost more than just 6g rod; but I thought I'd save time skipping the threading die. Not so much. I lose about as much time in the fact that they're hard. I like the dead soft stuff that I somehow (no logic involved) feel is more "pure" in that it's sold by a silver supplier as true stock rod. (thanks for that connection, Glass) I also like the nice clean, sharp threads I'm getting VS the molded, gloppy threads of the mass manufactured. The tattoo equip. supplier did say these were solid sterling too . . . . but . . . . IDK. Price/time is comparable and I find I have an affinity for the ones I make myself.

Anyhoo, gonna order up some of the rod and start threading.

You're very welcome:). Wanted to add something about working silver... I have NO CLUE why this works, one of the mysteries of the universe I guess, but the more you work with silver, the harder it gets. No kidding. I guarantee that your finished threads after cutting and banging it around are harder than the raw 'dead soft' you started with. The only way to soften it back up to pliable again is to heat it pink throughout for 30 secs, and letting it cool (not all metals, silver tho can be quenched in cool water). Point being, just working it makes it harder and harder and more able to withstand damage. That's why metalsmiths hammer swords, the more hammering you do, the harder, yet more brittle, it gets til you find a balancing point. You may have known this, but first time I heard it, I thought ... er... no... why would that work? It just does. o_O.

That's awesome you tried them, sorry for the random rabbit hole haha. Thought they'd be easier to work over since they "looked" the part but at $6 a pop :?: and you still have to work em over and then and then  :toast:
