I'm torn between wanting to see all the great looking OliveRs and wondering why I am torturing myself by looking at all of them when mine is a year off.
Finding this thread and knowing that you can't possibly have an OliveR is for some time yet is a bit like a pubescent boy finding a stash of Playboy mags. He's gonna keep looking at them.

Here is a question from all you OliveR owners. Are you torn between wanting to use your gorgeous mod all the time vs wanting it to never leave the house in fear of scratching or (horror) dropping and breaking it?
I was. Before I got mine. We spent our first day together with me just fondling her. But on the second day I vaped her. She's gone everywhere with me ever since. :D

Here's some proper OliveR porn:

Oh that one of the left...... Incredible looking. Like I've already said about 4 times, this is the kind of look I want. I do like pretty much every single mod Peter makes, but the burls with all their different unique markings just make me drool.

No. Not torn at all. I use it quite a bit between the house, car and walks about the shops but like any custom, rare object, I'm not about to subject it to abuse. Just like I wouldn't wear dress shoes to hike in the woods, I wouldn't subject my OliveR to any potentially dirty / dusty / or proximity to water activities.

I fear not of breaking it cause I'm very careful with all my mods :)

Bro, me mod an RDA? Ah ha ha hahhhhhhhaaaaaa :). If it's any more complicated than pushing out the centerpost and slicing off a bit of the insulator ima be sending it to p-diberacci to mod :)

I would love to try to help but I suck at stuff like this and suck even more doing stuff like this for others :)

Ok, almost had a catastrophic incident. My dibi just auto fired for 25 minutes. The nut on my firing pin apparently came off and made a constant connection between the pin and battery. everything was so hot it was all I could do to grab it and pull it apart.

Everything seems to be ok. Put another battery in and rewicked it. Just wonder if there is omething I can do to make that nut stay, short of gluing it permanently in place.

I think the vibration and giggling in the truck causes it to unthread.
Not cool going down the interstate trying to save your dibi.

Used a lot of it through the years.
It will still come apart with a minimum effort but vibration wont loosen it.

I started off thinking I would only use it at home. But that soon wore off. Only when doing things like mowing the yard does my Reo get any love anymore.

yeah. that's not good. My thinking on the brass nut against the aluminum button stem was that a nice finger-tightening would hold everything in place. Has done for me. Apologies for your distress, E. Everyone please to make sure the brass nut is firmly locked on the button stem. And, everyone, please report any similar problems. If there's an issue with that design, I need to know about it.

No I take it on flights, road trips, camping. I've dropped it several times and it has some dents and dings in the wood, even a nice dent in the copper plate but the Santos has held together. I did take Pdibs advice and added the screw to the bottom richlite plate and I'm positive that's save it from breaking. to get the batteries I just slap it in my palm.

Noticed my throw changing early on and used a pliers to just snug it up, no problems since.

No issues here, but I went a bit more than finger tight; I used a pair of long nose pliers to snug the nut when I installed the stud/nut in place of the original screw. The original screw was fairly tight as well and I think I used the amount of torque needed to free it as a benchmark for how tight the nut should be.

Can you try a teensy piece of electrical or plumbing tape first, and screw over that on on side of the threading? If you glue it down, you may want to adjust it for different batteries later and it would be harder to do...
