I tend to laugh when people suggest things, because honestly i was planning on smoking til i was dead. We dont actually have cancer issues in my family, and great lungs so if i followed in the footsteps of my prior generations id end up with emphysema if anything, and it usually hits them in the 60s-70s when they were a heavy smoker their entire life.

Anyways i tried an ecig and honestly liked it more than smoking, and switched ASAP. I did have some withdrawal but it wasnt difficult to deal with, and i initially was on crappy cigalikes.

So one persons perfect dream of just dropping a bad habit isnt everyones. I cant imagine not having that soothing sensation of a good throat hit, blowing out a big cloud and watching it swirl away. Its all very peaceful and relaxing for me, and its part of my life that i dont want to give up.

I don't think it's the nicotine that's the problem. If you were to quit using the patch or gum people would probably be giving you hi-fives and throw a party for you. I think it's the fact that vaping still looks like smoking. It appears that you get to have your cake and eat it too. People look at smokers like they look at child pornographers in today's society, and vaping gives people the mental image of smoking.

While you are certainly right that there is a LOT of that out there, there are still rampant myths about nicotine use.
Having spent some time on a hardcore quit-smoking forum, I've seen the brainwashing first hand.

They call it the Nicodemon.
And they preach the religion of Not One Puff Ever.

They tolerate the gum, patch, and the inhaler because you are not puffing.
And because they are FDA-approved and they have a set plan to reduce and eventually eliminate nicotine intake.

If your goal is not to eliminate nicotine, you are not welcome there.

Gee, that sounds so supportive! (sarcasm:)

Don't pay them any attention the minute you quit e-cigs they'll find something else wrong with you like...

Why do you chew your nails?
Why do you play with your hair?
Stop putting your hands in your pocket!
Why do you feed your dog in the morning?

People like that bug the hell out of me but they honestly can't help it, you just have to roll your eyes and walk away.

I haven't had this over nicotine because I did give it up for 6 miserable yrs. But, when people ask me when I'm going to stop doing something, I usually look them square in the eye and say, "I'm not. I have no intention to quit. Anymore thought provoking questions you need answered?" They usually shut up, or give me a dirty look. I then move along.

a bit aggressive no? don't even waste a thought on people like them. i am surrounded by that mindset on a daily basis. all it does to get upset is grow tumors faster. i used to let annoying people get under my skin. i decided a long time ago, i'm not going to let a bunch of ignorant rednecks raise my blood pressure. my mission now is to be as annoying as possible to the same people who would do the same to me. i want to give them the heart attacks, not vice versa. life is short. enjoy it. don't waste any effort on small minded people.

I love nicotine as much as I love caffeine and I'm never quitting either. I love the stimulants, I used to love ....... but that has passed. Anyway at least the people around me are supportive if they aren't screw em you don't need them. Except for family I guess you just got to put up with them.

Just today, while at work, I was puzzled with a programming problem that made no sense. "Back in the day" I'd have gone through half a pack by noon...with many trips outside "to think" about the problem. Today was the closest I came to snagging an analog from an engineer. But I didn't (yay me !!). A young engineer sees me sitting at the puter with my e-cig in my mouth. He goes "Is that one of them electronic cigarettes ?" "Yep." I respond. "How long has it been since you smoked ?" "27 days !" I say triumphantly. "THAT'S IT ?" he says with a laugh. I calmly say, "That's 540 cigarettes I didn't smoke.". The engineer (who vapes) next to him says, "Ignore the kid, he's an idiot. He never smoked, he has no idea. 27 days is awesome." The kid goes, "Sorry." And you can tell by the look on his face he meant it.

...That's a good thing?

OP: I feel ya, it's annoying when people start on the "Why don't you just quit?" kick. Two things, though:

1) There IS something to be said for not being addicted to something. I mean, everything else aside, is it better to be addicted to something or not addicted to something? I couldn't answer that question without admitting that remaining addicted to nicotine is easier than going through the angst of quitting. And if that's not the reason for you, then please indulge: why don't you just quit?

2) The person that said that to you, he probably went through more in his quitting than we did in ours. He probably needs the psychological pat on the back, too. If showing off and being annoyingly proud about having quit smoking is what it takes to quit smoking, cool by me, you know?
