Sorry, lost power and internet yesterday, got it back today and then the internet crashed again. So posting early with yet another storm moving in while we still have internet. 
Sounds about like where I live. Even a very light rain kills my phone line. For some reason my internet connection (same phone line) holds out much longer. Sometimes, it never goes down.
We had the same problem when we had dsl. The phone guy told me you need 2 wires (tip and ring) for phone, but the dsl will still work if one is connected sometimes. Finally got tired of it and went with cable internet.
Internet down again most of the day, hoping this will post before it crashes again. 
When our phoneline was the internet connection, it only went down once. Called the company to ask what the problem was and she said the problem was on their end. Asked when they expected it to be restored and she said to check their website. Asked how I was supposed to check the website if I had no internet. She never answered that question.

Not to get too far off topic, but I once contacted Century Link by internet and ended up with someone or something in a 'chat'. At one point, they asked me if my internet were working 'Right Now". Well, duh! That question cost them what little confidence I still had in them. Internet? Chat room?
What always, um, puzzles me is when you call in to report a dead line and they ask if you're calling from it...
