I made my first attempt at the single SS with no cotton last night and I really like it but there is so little room to work in there. I picked the coil up as much as I could be it still looks very close to the plastic posts and I am afraid of melting them. I can actually see a little damage has already been done but I cant say for sure when it happened or with what wick configuration. I am watching it pretty carefully now and am cognisant of it win use but still... I wish there was a little more room in there or better yet if they were made of ceramic.

Those insulators really aren't necessary as long as care is taken to space the coil properly when installing. SS mesh really is the way to go with these things. Just need to be sure that the wick extends far enough down into the trough without touching any metal parts. One suggestion for those using cig papers to insulate the coil would be to wrap the lower end in liquid soaked paper and light ablaze a few times, or coat a few more times with only burnt liquid.

My SS wick stands straight up and touches the bottom of the juice cup. I don't seem to be having any trouble with this but is that not advisable?

It can cause shorts but if you oxidized the mesh good enough it should be ok.

Well I probably went overboard on the prep but so far I have not seen anything untoward. It is holding steady at 1.6 ohm and I have seen no fluctuation at all and I am not getting any error messages on the provari.

Should be good to go then. Imo you can't oxidize it enough...the more the better. How's the flavor compared to regular wick for you?

Hooah! Just put one together using cotton gauze and a small tube of mesh. 2.1ohms@4.1v. Plumes of flavor. Only downside is it sucks up juice like a vacuum cleaner...wow. As a side note, the gauze is much easier to work with in tight quarters than other wick materials.

Yeah no kidding, I have been going through juice like crazy.

As to the flavor, I feel the stainless is cleaner then anything I have tried thus far. Of course I am really just now branching out from cartomizers so I have not tried that much.

I will say that throat hit while very good on the stainless does not seem to me to be as strong as it was on silica. Not sure what that means. I have been reading a lot of cotton threads so it could just be in my head.

Nice...keep in mind with SS mesh it tastes alot better to vape it at lower voltages than you would with silica and don't just oxidize it 3-4 times like you see in the videos...I burn/quench mine a good 10 times then burn it with juice 5 more times for a perfect oxidization. If you're coil is shorting on the SS mesh it will give you a really crappy taste.

And I generally work over a very hard plastic board with sides, so everything falls into it. I wasnt at that time, already spent 2 hours searching for the screw ... Anyone any ideas where you can get replacement screws ? They should really add replacement screws with it, or any info on what size these screws are

You may be able to find something compatible in a repair kit for eyeglasses.

It's all stainless steel except for the little top peice that your drip tip goes in which is chrome plated copper.

Thats pretty cool, the price is very low for stainless, I know there are big differences in the quality of stainless steel, but thats a good price, looks nice.

having a little trouble with mine. The premade wick was awesome. good th good vapor, only think i noticed was i had to rinse and dry burn every few days. So i decided to tackle making my own coil. I have one of the MOV ones, possibily a knock off, using the 34 gauge wire and the poofy silica wick. I think i screwed up on the wire, i vape a vmax and wanted a higher resistance wire so i got the bigger number. stupid me didnt realize that wire gauges are bigger when the number is smaller. so with 8-9 wraps i can get pretty clean coils, but its just not the same as the OG coil. the poofy silica wick seems way hard to work with compared to the CE2 style. I tore apart an unused CE2 i had lying around and robbed the wick out of that and cut it to size. tastes reallllllly weird. also, are you supposed to be able to dry dry burn with the ce2 wicks and the poofy silica wicks? when i dry burn to test my coils it blackens the wicking materiel and im afriad im ruining my beautiful coils/wicks.

It shouldn't be turning black when dry burning. Sounds like you might need to get some SS mesh to wrap around the silica or get some 3mm ceramic silica wick from silicawicks.com. It's tasting off because of the black color it's turning. Are you wrapping your coils loosely? Your coil should be able to slide around on your wick when using force. You can get a 6x6 sheet of SS mesh on ebay for about 5 bucks with free shipping. The flavor you get from SS mesh is night and day compared to ce2/silica wick.

Ah yeah, the ol plastic posts melting issue lol. Gotta keep the coil away from the posts as much as you can. I always do a test dry burn after making a coil and I do notice it put off some smoke/vapor and my best guess is it's partly the wire and partly some very loose fibers being burnt off. That's just how it's gonna be with silica wick...it's not ment to last...a few days of vaping is about all you will ever get before having to clean/dry burn to bring it back to tasting like new. SS mesh really is the only way to go after trying it I will never go back to any other soft wick material.

im curious to try the SS it seems to be all the rage. however i'd assume youd really have to keep your mod standing straight up or it'll leak out of the drip well. The silica tucked in there seems to keep in under control if its at least half full
