so i have been vaping for a long time and honestly i ignored the nonsense about vaping bans. with the new FDA regulations being published, hopefully they will change but at this point i have to consider maybe i have two years to prepare for it. i will start out by saying i am an avid DIY'er when it comes to liquid, in fact i have not purchased a bottle of premade liquid in 2+ years. once i discovered i can make my own for 30 cents a bottle i never looked back. the most recent mod i have purchased is a kanger dripbox 160, i have to say i can "dig it". this unit has the ability to use handmade coils. i purchased several premade coils to have a couple of spares.

i have attempted to make coils before with mixed results. in order to prepare for the lack of availability of premade coils, i have decided i MUST learn how to make my own. the time has come. so should i buy a coil making kit with coiling fixtures? wrapping around a screwdriver never gave me consistent coils. what wire to buy? what cotton? is it cheaper or just slightly more security as far as having the gov taxing it or taking it away.

what supplies should i buy and how long does it keep. i have 3/4 of a liter of 100 MG strength, i vape 8MG and my wife only does 3 MG. what is likely to get messed with and what should i stock up on? how long do these supplies keep? whats the life on flavoring and whats the life on nicotine base? frankly i dont see them messing with PG and VG, they might say they are going to but with a wide array of other uses, good luck to them. what about batteries, they are used in flashlights. are the LG 18650 3000 MAH 20 amp high drain batteries used in other devices or are they specific for vaping. i know 18650 batteries were originally used in flight lights, are the high drain batteries being used in flashlights or just the el-cheapo trustfire style batteries.

Nicotine should be your primary concern. Flavorings, VG, PG will all remain available. Nicotine can be stored in your freezer for hopefully many years.

As to building coils, all you really need is wire, something to wrap the wire around, something to cut it with, and some cotton or rayon to stuff in it. A coil making kit is sometimes a nice way of just getting everything, but it can be cheaper to buy the things you need individually. Wire and cotton will also always be available, so buy what you need to work with for the immediate future, no need to stockpile.

You will need to stockpile rebuildable tanks and some mods to power them. Just as with wire, cotton, VG, PG, and batteries will always be available as well. There are several threads here that can help you out.

Coil making kits probably are a help, although I've never used one. Most kits come with all the basic tools you'll need, however you can purchase each one piece by piece, too. My father was a carpenter, and he always said you should have the right tools for the job at hand.

Information Resources for Your First RBA
  • An essential read and referrance guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

Wrapping coils is a learned skill. I wasn't that good at first, but with each coil made they became progressively better. Watching YouTube videos helped me learn techniques. You don't have to make fancy exotic coils. I personally believe in the K.I.S.S. principle (keep it simple, stupid). I make only simple coils; compressed or spaced makes no difference.

Lithium ion batteries are used in hybrid cars, OEM cordless power tools, as well as high end flashlights. They should always be available to us vapers because of this.

I have a feeling a couple of years down the road there are going to be a lot of vapers complaining about spoiled nicotine.

Mine stored in freezer below zero for several years no change at all , have read some have stored for 5/6 years with no change what so ever.

Figure the daily ml vape wife and you use and you can enter into vapocolypse calculator(search forum) nic strength etc and it will tell you how much nic you need for years to come.

Just my :2c:.....

Although I had plenty of tools to do coils, I felt I needed a few additional and better tools. And at my age with wonky hands and failing eyesight, I wanted the best possible chance to succeed at my efforts. So I picked up the CM DIY2 at a sale price and have never regretted it, everything I need in a convenient place and it is there when I need it. All in one case that is hands off to the Mrs., if you know what I mean (OlderNDirt ducks the frying pan!). I also picked up a 521 Tab to build on, got tired of knocking over mods.

I think the need for a kit depends on the individual. While some claim to build and wick in 5 minutes, it may take me an hour or more and some days just aren't worth the attempt.

i buy 100 MG strength, how much should i buy? i have been buying from myfreedomsmokes. seems to be a good product, i dont know what the shelf life is like.

what is the difference between clapton and kanthal wire? are claptons more difficult to make?
I buy all my nicotine from My Freedom Smokes. I just finished a liter I stored in the freezer in July 2014. I had it in 30 ml glass bottles, the last drop was as clear and perfect as the day I stored it just over two years ago.

frankly i would consider on stocking up with several dripbox 160 mods. i really like it so far. its versatile, i can use the RDA that come with it or i can change it for a normal tank. it holds two batteries that are easily replaced so the battery life is great. usually i vape in the 65-70 watt range. i can also use this with DIY coils.

what other RDA's fit on this unit with the squonker bottle. which ones have feed holes? i had good luck with kanger products and durability. they seem to hold up well

I agree with this 100%! I have both the Coil Master V1 and I liked it so well I bought the V2 when it came out. You can buy all the tools individually, but it is great to have them all perfectly stored in one neatly placed kit. In my opinion they are well worth the cost. Got a great price on both on eBay,also free shipping.
