Ok, so I got the DSE 801 automatic today, and am thoroughly disappointed; I realize the batteries, when they first arrive, need a full charge, but I know I'm not the only one who couldn't resist a few test hits before the first long charging process. So far I am completely disenchanted. First, there is zero throat hit, second, the vapor is almost non existant, third, there's the issue of leaking and a sort of "greasy" residue when taking a drag, and fourth, the &$!@#! cart filler gets pulled onto the atomizer. And of course, I can't return it, the guy doesn't take returns :grr: So what's the big deal with the 801?? Why is everyone saying it's so great? So far, and I realize this may be a bit premature, but my experience with the 801 is that it bleeding sucks!

Ok, so in 4 hours, there will be a full charge on the first battery. Please tell me some of these issues will sort of resolve themselves with a full charge. Have any of you dealt with these issues, and if so, what did you do to resolve them - assuming the issue was resolved? And if worse comes to worse, where I don't even want the &$!@#! thing...anyone wanna buy a lightly used kit minus a cartridge or two?

I had the exact same complaints. The new DSE801s (true SLBs) are now "high bridge" atomizers. In short, they suck.

I've heard that the BE112 from bestecig are better (shorter bridge) and that the best current model seems to be the JOYE 302/4 aka Janty Classic/Kissbox atomizers.

Word is that Eastmall's 801s are actually JOYE 302s as well. I have some on order and am really looking forward to replacing my crappy SLB 801s with them. Check this thread for more info! http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/product-feature-design-requests/31945-low-bridge-801s.html

First I'll give you advice on what you have. Sorry I didn't do that in my original post!

I tried everything with my SLB high bridge 801s. I tried the Pyramid Tea Bag mod and it didn't really help. The mesh is still sticking to the atomizer bridge. If I cut it so that it barely makes contact, it doesn't stick so much. But, then it doesn't wick well enough either. The only way I got these to work well is by directly dripping. Even then, I'm not getting any throat hit and it kind of defeats the purpose of the larger carts.

So, I got tired of these atties and did a lot or research on this site. I found that the RN4075 model and the BE112 were getting mostly positive reviews. Your best bet for the RN4075 is Totally Wicked. They just call them 801s on their site IIRC. Be warned that these have a few complaints too, although they sound a lot better than the current SLBs.

The BE112 is a bestecig.com special. They're the manufacturer and only reseller. This one sounds like a close runner up to the best current 801 atty. I've read a poor review here or there, but mostly good things.

From what I could find, the 801 offered by Eastmall is the best 801 atomizer on the market currently. They have 4 holes and a very low round bridge. These are apparently VERY similar (ie the same as the JOYE 302). Check Supervaporbros review, the thread I linked previously, and try searching a bit more. I'll post my personal opinion in a few days when mine get in if you like.

The bottom line is that all of the RN4075/DSE801/JOYE 302/304/BE112 atomizers and batteries are swappable.

There is another penstyle called the M201 that will NOT work well with batteries from these other manufacturers. It's got mostly good reviews, but isn't as easily attainable and you'd have to buy new batts to go with it as well. Your call!

I've been using both 801's. The be 112 and the dse. Not much difference. The performance will improve with a full charge. The filler will stop sticking to the atty with use also. It becomes compressed and the heat kind of seals it. Try not to change carts just refill as needed. As far as throat hit, well that is a subject of much discussion. I find that you get a good throat hit after it has been sitting unused for a while then goes away after 5 or so hits. The cart capacity and the longer batt life is the big plus with an 801. I have several mods both high and low volt and use 801 atty's in most of them. My other pv a choice is the 901. The 510 does not measure up in both battery life and cart capacity. But you get a more consistent throat hit. A starter puff will improve the throat hit in the 801. Still my go to pv when i need a dependable pv.

Thanks for those tips Wellfed. I still think the high bridge 801s are crap. My 901 atomizers have never given me this much trouble. I'll probably try giving these another shot with carts eventually, but I'm liking my new kr808d-1 a lot and hoping that the Eastmall 801s are as good as everyone says they are!

Just a point of order to help avoid confusion. The RN4072 is the low bridge penstyle. The RN4075 is a mini/dse 901, which you don't want in this case. I know they have them at ecigarettecigar and eastmall. I think eastmall has some manual batteries for them too, might be worth your while.
Oh and getting good throat hit from a stock penstyle takes practice. I do three consecutive draws, almost as if I were hotboxing an analog, and then inhale. If the juice has any kick to it at all, working out a good technique is all you'll need to do.

Good luck!

The 801 style device allowed me to quit analogs so I am biased. All the difficulties the OP mentioned are just part of vaping. A full battery charge is necessary for optimal performance. A short primer puff followed by a long, slow draw will produce the best vapor the 801 can produce. If the throat hit and vapor are still not to your liking, then you need to seriously look at skipping the middle steps and start shopping for a high-end, high-voltage vaping device. Such a device will provide excellent vapor and analog-like throat hit.

There are several to choose from. My choice was the Super-T with the extension sleeve needed to vape at 6 volts (vs. the 3.7 volts of a typical screw-in battery). Other devices very worthy of consideration include the AdapteverR, Silver Bullet, Prodigy and GLV.

Um...I realize a full charge is needed, so I'm hoping that once I try it with a full charge, these issues (or at least some of them) will be resolved. But constant leakage and cart filler sticking to the atty being "just a part of vaping"? Guess I got spoiled on my Dragon M401 because it didn't do any of that, had a decent throat hit and nice vapor.

I'm still not ready for something like the prodigy, I was just hoping for something that I didn't have to fill as often as the Dragon (I'm a "chain vaper", I guess), and I figured the DSE 801 pen style would do nicely, especially when I'm out and about. All these issues pretty much took me by surprise and at the moment I'm not happy with it :(, and am so new to this whole e-cigarette thing anyway. I don't know what to do next. Maybe order the 510? Does that also come with a billion issues? Are there any e-cigs that are long (like a 120 slim cigarette) but are not pen style, that anyone would recommend?

I just received a copper from atmosusa and it runs at 6 and 3.7 volts. It's also very affordable just not pretty. Damn good throat hit from the 4081 at 6 volt and not bad at 3.7 i have several laser mods in 910 and 801, the 901 does hit better with a big bat ( less voltage drop off) but the cart life is dismal. I like high cap carts. 801's give me this and for that reason i'll keep using them. The be 112's from best ecig are good performers.

Thanks for catching that! Brain fart!

The Eastmall 801 is NOT = to RN4072 though from what I've found. Not sure if that is what you meant, or if you meant the 4075 is available at Eastmall.

I'm so sorry you're having problems! As you know, I swear by the M201 pen, and if you decide to try the 510 I HIGHLY recommend the Titan 510 from The Electronic Cigarette Company, with the Mega extended battery. I believe they're based in Michigan, so shipping time should be good. Haven't had a single issue with either model. I'm glad you love your Dragon!

Hmm, maybe I whined too soon...after a full charge, there's an ok throat hit (sometimes, not all the time), I figured out the problem with the leaking (just watch it with the filling the carts), the cart filler isn't being pulled onto the atomizer anymore, the vapor is great, and it seems to last bloody forever! Still...this taste...metallic? Is that from the atomizer being new? My Dragon doesn't do this, and I just got a new atomizer today for it. In that, the caramel tastes a lot like caramel, but the exact same juice in the 801 tastes...metallic. So, I'm confused.

This is where I get my low-bridge atomizers. The Joye302 Make sure to get the proper carts from them too.
I hate those high bridge ones, a pain. When you put in your cart or pull it out with the high bridge ones, be sure to NOT twist the cart in and out. That bridge will act as a lever and push the cart filler away (up into your cart.) Then, no vapor! Start out by pulling the wicking out of the cart about an 1/8" or so, push it straight in with a good fill, it has to be touching that bridge in order to wick properly. If it doesn't touch you won't get any vapor. Also, as the wick dries out, it sort of shrinks back into the cart holder, so you may have to re-position it or re-fill often. Also, if you take too many puffs per minute the cart will dry at the tip. Slow down your puffs a little so it can wick properly. Good luck, they are not nice to work with at all. Who-ever you buy from, make sure they are low bridge 801 attys!!

I have a BE112 from BestEcig and the problems I was having were caused by the auto batts, when I replaced them with manual ones it worked a lot better. I don't think the auto ones get as hot as the manual and therefore doesn't produce as much vapor or flavor. I now have a JantyStick and the attys work great in it too.

I need a different cart than what was included in the starter kit if I purchase some of the low bridge attys? Which ones? Is this an absolute requirement in order to use the low bridge attys?
Angelz, all I can say is work with your supplier. The people at MyVaporStore are extremely helpful to get the cartridge/atomiser combination right, some of the carts for 801's do not work exactly right, they can be a little tiny bit too long??!!! I have learned that if my carts seem to be getting a lot of unvaporized liquid condensing on them, (When I pull them out they're dripping wet!) I cut off about 1/8th of an inch of the CART HOLDER with a sharp little scissors. Cuts down drastically on the premature condensation. Makes for a 'cleaner' vape, with better vapor volume.
Just an idea to make everything work, especially when you get supplies from different sources. I'm one who buys the cheapest way, so have learned how to "Modify" things so not to waste money! Good luck!

Same thing happened to me when I got my 801. I was pissssssed when I first tried it out. I was so ready to return it. Then something happened....after a few hours of of vaping on it here and there....i noticed the vapor production getting better.. and the throat hit was getting stronger. It's been a week now since I got it and I can honestly say it kicks a** compared to my 901. I now soley use my 801 and it is WONDERFUL NOW!! Just keep vaping it it will get better!!:)
