I was about 5 or 6 but that's how we made calls, then the high tech rotary phone came out.
I found this picture as I know this the type phone and color we had installed in our kitchen.

My grandparents were NA5 - **** (National)STate3-2024. The other prefix in our neck of the woods was "REpublic." Funny how those things stick in one's head!

Best feature of a wall mount was you never had to look for it and we never lost it.When I was growing up, this is what our home phone looked like until we finally got one of them new fangled push button dealies.........

We never did get a wall mounted phone.
Me, too! My mom embroidered it on the inside of our jackets. "My name is LittleBird. ST 3-2024".I can't remember what I had for breakfast but dammit, I know what my phone number was when I was a kid!

She should have added your address so if you got lost they could stuff you in a box and UPS you back home.Me, too! My mom embroidered it on the inside of our jackets. "My name is LittleBird. ST 3-2024".![]()

You could get an extra long springy cord on the handset too. After a few months it waded up like a bowl of spaghetti but it worked as long as you had the patience to unclustereffit. My mother refused to have a phone mounted on the wall. Ours was kept on a side table in the dining room with a cord long enough she could carry the phone just about anywhere in the house she wanted to.

What I remember most about the telephone was when I was very young. (No comments on this - get it?)! but when I answered the phone as a young boy, people thought I was my mother answering. Used to P!$$ me off royally. And my father was a practical joker, who called people and if their children answered the phone and asked who was calling, my father's response every time was......."GOD." So embarrassed was I.![]()
