Not stepping into this beehive...
But "AR" does NOT mean "Assault Rifle".
A = Armalite. R = Rifle.

It's sorta like how they classify dirt bikes.
Sorry but it's the only comparison I can think of.
A Honda 250cc is a Honda brand dirt bike, and the 250cc refers to its engine size.
Yamaha makes a 250cc, so does Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc...
To say that "AR" means "assault rifle", is to say that 250cc is specific to a certain brand dirt bike.
Now, are these AR-15's heavily favored by militant forces, for combat purposes? Sure. But a device doesn't become something it's not, just because it was used in a certain way.
Just like our vape gear is NOT a tobacco product, just because we use it to replace smoking.
End rant. My two cents.

Not sure what your point is Ping? From Wiki, it's clear AR-15 is a term for assault rifle, regardless of which assault rifle. To me and I suspect most people, any weapon that is used to kill people on the street, a club a movie theatre or any public place qualifies as an assault weapon.
Here's Wikipedia's definition of AR-15
AR-15
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AR-15 refers to any of several rifles:
These include:
- Armalite AR-15, a select fire military assault rifle manufactured by Armalite, and predecessor of the M16
- Colt AR-15, sold by Colt Firearms, a line of semiautomatic versions of the military M16 service rifle starting with the SP-1 Sporter model
- AR-15 variants
I had a conversation with a guy who's anti guns and he was clear about his dislike of the AR-15, which he believed the AR meant assault rifle. I have to believe the media continually fills the public with false information. AR is not and never has been an assault weapon. ArmaLite rifle made in the 1950's. The FDA dishing out false information about our beloved Provari's, tanks and ejuice. Please leave us alone.

My brother wanted to buy a rifle a couple of years ago. He didn't want a 30-30 because he thinks he's too old to handle the power of a hunting rifle. He wanted something lighter with less kick. He finally decided on an AR-15 because it's a nice light rifle, good for old people.I had a conversation with a guy who's anti guns and he was clear about his dislike of the AR-15, which he believed the AR meant assault rifle. Assault rifles used in the military can be a single shot with each trigger pull or a automatic. Go to any gun shop and try and buy a automatic assault rifle. Let me know if you find one. You'll have a easier time finding a 200 watt Provari.
The truth, nice well written explanation without the rhetoric. Thanks r
That's the point you can't buy a automatic rifle. Lot's or AR 15 are 22 caliber. A truck driving through crowd's of people is a dangerous weapon. I would rather get terrorists off the streets, but that would be politically incorrect.OK......Assault Rifle or Assault Weapon. Single shot or automatic. Either are effective killers. IMHO, something needs to be done to make them less easy to acquire. But then the NRA who also owns congress, won't hear of it.

Law abiding citizens who desire the ability to defend themselves won't hear of it. The world is a dangerous place, and if the SHTF and the grid goes down because some lunatic in North Korea decides to set off an EMP, society and life as we know it suddenly ceases to exist. I wish to have the means to defend myself at my disposal because it is my God given right to do so.OK......Assault Rifle or Assault Weapon. Single shot or automatic. Either are effective killers. I'll take my chances with Donald then have Hillary open the door and allow Islamic terrorists free reign to slaughter innocent people. I lost credibility? Would you fight and die for our country? I would.I still don't understand your point. To me, it's semantic. But I think you lose much credibility when you say something like your last comment above. If you think your Donald is going to do anything that will really reduce the number of "terrorists" on the street, you're drinking cool-aid laced with hyperbole.
