Good Luck Kas !!!

I turn 65 this September. It's just that after all this time, I'd grown tired of my limited repertoire of bachelor meals and felt I needed to expand my choices and variety. My mind and body was telling me to. I can't afford to eat out every day or always find a wide variety of restaurant meals always cooked JUST the way I like and know everything that went into it. It's just me, so buying a wide variety of ingredients locally would in most cases be a waste as I'd never use up all the stuff before it expired. I didn't want meal planning, shopping and cooking to consume a lot of my time ... so Home Chef has been an ideal answer for me. They even accommodate those with dietary concerns and somewhat tailor the meals through a preference questionnaire.

Since beans were mentioned ... I'll spill them LOL. I use a meal delivery service. They send ALL the fresh raw ingredients needed for each meal ... nothing more, nothing less. That means no buying a whole bunch of stuff that won't get used before an expiration date, no whole bunch of stuff to store. Speaking of store, no driving to the store and searching up and down aisles, no shopping lists, no meal planning and trying to plan how to use up a bunch of stuff. Keeping it simple and easy. Comes out to $9.95 a plate including FedEx with ice packed delivery. $10 bucks a day is worth it to me. The service I use? ... Home Chef ... been using Home Chef since the first part of this past January and recommend them.

EDIT: I do have to supply my own salt, pepper and olive oil. I can handle that part LOL ... and I do have to prepare and cook it, which is kinda fun :)
That keeps it simple.

I was 232 just 13 months ago. I was 179 when I jumped on the scale this morning. I lost 10 pounds last April and held at 222 until I rededicated in mid August. I lost another 40 pounds in four months and have kept it off since. I feel right at 180. I just eat good stuff and walk every day.

I think if I just lost about 10 lbs, I would be about where I should be. This year is a year to take care of ailments, started with my eye. Then after that there is a hernia to take care of, and all the other tests that they want to do. I just have to make sure, I don't rack up medical bill's I can't pay. Exercise will have to come a bit later on.

I turned 56 in December, and I guess I am still on the bachelor meals thing, but I know that has to change. I don't like the idea of buying food, that will spoil if I don't eat in quickly enough. That does sound like a good system. My brother became a vegetarian a few years ago, and he goes to the store 4 or 5 times a week. I really don't want to do that, I will figure something out. :)

I also take a highly rated (on Amazon) multi-vitamin for 50+ men and that helps. Noticeably for me. Thing is though, I'd rather not have to take vitamins or rather a lot of vitamins. I take half (or less) the recommended daily dose on the bottle and feel okay doing so. I think with the Home Chef meals and just a small vitamin boost, I'm pretty much covered. Theses are the vitamins I researched and chose ... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00323XJ8W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

EDIT: I do still buy a few things here and there locally too ... and eat out from time to time. A couple of quick easy meals a week, snacks and such.

EDIT AGAIN Sorry: I just checked the vitamin bottle. It says take a total of 4 of those things a day ... shoot ... I only take one (1) a day. It's enough for me. I like very much that I can regulate smaller doses like that.

Nice one NY !!! Indeed. Looks like you prefer tank air wide open. Me too. What are you running ... .7, 1.6 or 1.8 and what's the watts or volts? Thanks :)

EDIT: Oh, and one more thing ... considering different thermal properties of Ti and steel, do find the Kabuki performs the same in either iteration? Pretty sure it would but just asking.
Good to see you around again Hobbs. I use 1.6 or 1.8. Honestly, can't tell the diff between the two. Maybe I'm just insensitive. What you saw pictured is 1.8, vaping unflavored at 9.4W. And, I've been using this Ti set up for on the road, in the car, in the stealth...so just unflavored since I got it. So, I can't compare it fairly to the other Kabuki's which I use with flavored liquids.
It's a great duo.

I am not much of a cook. The beans are something I just learned about, I have never made a stew though, sounds kinda good though.

KAS
Whenever I make beans, and it doesn't really matter which kind, I slice up some salt pork (which is fairly cheap) into slivers then slowly brown it so it gives up its fat, then add water, then the beans and cook until they're tender. Collards (also with salt pork) on the side and some rice. A few hits of hot sauce on some or all. Cheap and delicious. But, the salt pork adds alot to them all.

Yeah I will, been eating a lot of pasta the last few weeks, it is cheep and easy. I was going to get some different beans to try, but this month I had property tax's, and I also just got a bill for this retinal vein occlusion treatment that I have been going threw. When I am working aprox 20 hours a week, the budget is tight. I still try to get something vape related when I can. :|

KAS
And, being of Italian ancestry, there are tons of pasta recipes which are very inexpensive, since they have so few ingredients. Just a bit of olive oil, some garlic, some parsley. Or a bit of bacon and egg and cheese. Or some black pepper and grated cheese. Or .... The possibilities are many and always good, cooked right.

... my bean meal is black eyed peas, rice and smoked sausage. All in one pot. A third of a bag of beans cooked by instructions on the bag, toss in a pound of sliced up smoked sausage (I use Cajun sausage), bring to a boil, then add a cup of rice and cook till the rice is done (15 minutes). The spices in the sausage are strong enough I don't need salt and pepper, just add a few dashes of hot sauce while cooking. Good for a couple of meals. Chopped onion would be good in it and garlic. What else?

It WAS done from scratch !!! ... Even posted a pic of raw ingredients !!! ... shoot. It was just as much from scratch as if I'd bought from the local grocer and whole veggies from the farmer's market LOL

EDIT: And so far in the 5 1/2 months I've used Home Chef, ALL the ingredients have been as good and as fresh OR BETTER than I could get locally or pick out.

Thanks for posting the vitamin link. As a lacto-ovo vegetarian for over 30 years and on restricted calories (so that I won't regain the many pounds I needed to lose) my doc wants me to take vitamin supplements.

I've been using a Walmart brand because it's cheap but it's also made in China and, orher than vape-related stuff I don't like to buy made-in-China.

Vaping caused me to gain 10 lbs, I had to work at it. Some stuff was not particularly "healthy" but it sure was calorie rich.

I'm a healthy, good cook, and I do think having that one meal of the day that matters (dinner, not breakfast, I haven't eaten breakfast in decades, just can't choke it down. I try to do the protein plus nutrients smoothie for lunch and that's healthy.

It's harder to cook the less people you cook for has been my experience. If I were single, I'd probably be living off pringles, skittles and soylent. LOL.

I was in a similar situation with needing to eat better, but not having anyone to share the cooking with. I've done pretty well with those healthy choice frozen steamer bowls doctored up with a few handfuls of frozen veggies tossed in. I don't do the steamer bit, just dump all the food into the bowl and toss my veggies on top with maybe a sprinkle of low-sodium Tajin to bump up the flavor without salting it. It isn't as pretty as what Hobbs fixes with the fancy china instead of a plastic bowl doomed to the recycle bin, but it fills the hole.

For an exercise program, if your Dr. is on board, start by just walking the neighborhood. You can increase distance as you feel like it. I'm lucky to have a park by my house, and now I look forward to my early morning laps around the lake in the dawning light with the birds singing morning chorus.

Processed foods are no good for you...I have learned. Cannot beat fresh meat, cheese, bread, juices, grain, and vegetables and stay away from chips, Velveeta, ice cream, soda, Mickey D's, and packaged crap. That stuff kills. And make sure you have the big three for dinner. Meat, starch, and veggie. I'll drink lots of V8 as well. Hi nutrition, low calories. I don't do the original because it has too much salt in it. The low sodium is too low so I mix them half and half. Just right for me. Many times drinking my veggies is easier than eating them. And Hobbs is right. If making good meals is too much of a PITA then you're likely not going to make them as much as you should. So whatever makes it easier. For the single or couple it makes sense to make a big batch of something like chili or stew and freeze the extra. Do I cheat? You better believe it! Once a week I get a greasy pizza from my favorite pizzeria and pig out. I also crack open a mountain dew every other day. Walks are huge. I go on a brisk 1.75 mile walk every day. Takes 27 minutes. I work around the house a lot. If I don't work around the house then I'll walk twice a day (a 1.1 mile course). Walking keeps you in tune with the neighborhood and the dogs. No, I don't stop and chat. People know it. Walk time is for walking. And as Cats said, you get in the habit of walking to the point where you look forward to it. Sometimes I crank some tunes in the MP3, sometimes I just want silence. And i don't use bad weather as an excuse not to walk. If it's not a deluge I walk. The fresh air and scenery is wonderful. And it doesn't hurt my eyes to look at all the pretty mommies walking either. :)
