HA !!! The way my mind has been working lately ... I just might ... not LOL
I've used my SS dial caliper to measure cells before, just wrapped the jaws with cello tape and zeroed them out there...

A P3 chipset will NOT fit into the earlier ProVari tubes, they moved the button hole up a bit in the P3 and also the Classic to accommodate the new chipsets. No Can Do retrofit...

The classic and P3 chipsets are interchangeable however, and Bill can or was offering the service of upgrading Classics to P3.

As a relatively newb Classic owner, why would I want to, E?

So my best bet is to buy a lot of button top bats. Mooch (or maybe I read it somewhere else) advises that refrigerated bats will keep 98% of their power for years…or sonething like that. I can do that :)

Are you sure on that info, Bea? If so, might you link me to it, please?

Search the bay for aw imr 18350.

Or.... <coughClassiescough> or ...

I haven't been keeping up too good lately because of work, taking care of my mom, my son visiting, etc. All the 18350 button top battery talk.....is there a possibility that they won't be available in the future? I'll post a pic of what I recently bought that is working fine for me, just wondering if I should buy more??

Seems like I'm Mr Disagreeable Dark Cloud lately, but I clearly remember Mooch making a statement that the only thing Li Ion batteries hate more than being overdischarged is just lying around not being used. Why do I remember clearly? Because less than a week before he wrote that, I'd heard that the Aspire 18350 were being discontinued and bought a pile of them to store as backups.

I can't remember where I saw it (and too lazy to go look right now) but it may have been in one of his youtube Mind Your mAhs episodes.

OK, found the place in the vid where Mooch was talking about prolonging battery life. He said refrigeration doesn't help much, to store them at 3.7V, and that rotating them was better than just letting them sit. And I over stated how bad the storage effects were, as he only said they would age and deteriorate.

The vid was
Minding Your mAhs – Ep6 – How can we extend the life of our Li-Ion/LiPo batteries?

Every shop I see selling the Vapcell 18350 button top show the length as approx 35mm, which is what an 18350 is supposed to be. Guess I'll see when they get here Monday.
I guess IF the Vapcell 18350 doesn't work (length too long) in my ProVari Minis OR any of the Classics or P3s either ... they SHOULD still work in my Ehpro Mod 101 running a faithful Doggystyle. The Ehpro has a good deal of room to accommodate different batteries. Still thinking out loud ;)

I'm trying and have tried to not overthink this whole battery thing, i bought a bunch and put them away, some say they will deteriorate, sure, they will lose some of their usage curve over time...how much? Who knows. What I do know is that I have cells that will power my ProVari's for maybe the next five years...is this overkill? Maybe, maybe not...I don't really care, the money was spent, and there they sit waiting to be used,,,maybe there will be fresh cells available when the time comes for me to need them, if so...all good, if not, I will have my stash of cells to use with whatever life is left in them...they are already paid for, and frankly, the money spent is so far smaller than what I was spending on smokes that it is inconsequential. I don't even care right now if these cells are junk five years from now, maybe I won't even still be vaping then, I've been vaping for five years now and have zero desire to smoke, I can't imagine where I will be regarding all of this five more years from now...I'm thinking along the lines of gradually moving away from vaping and leaving it all behind...time will tell the tale.

IQ, more colors of LED button, time out selectability of screen, in essence, more features available through menu selection, more user customizable functionality. Maybe moar
Watts? When the Classic was realeased I proposed that it was just a dumbed down P3, I don't think that comment was well received, and in the closing days, I ordered a classic red/black hybrid, and received a red/black Classic bodied P3... Coinkiedink? I think NOT!

Promise you'll still come around to annoy me, please. I shall miss you greatly and if you don't (come around), I shall pester you even whilst you're on your tri, bicycle. And I'll bring DPL with me. :p

Ah yes! I remember the coin inky dinky saga! That was great!!!

Thanks for the info, much of what has jogged my mem'ry cells. Perhaps one day I shall encounter and revel in the joys of the high IQ and many colored LEDs. ;)

Oh, they won't be junk five years from now. I've seen estimates that self life could be anywhere from 5 -15 years so who knows?
But... as long as you have them just sitting there why not rotate them? What's the difference? Good ones hold a full charge for at least a good month. I know this because I keep 2 spare 18650's out in the Jeep and once a month I exchange them with freshies and use 'em. Besides, I read it somewhere. :D
Look, I have eleven 18650's I keep in constant rotation. Why eleven? Because they came with ProVari's I was gobbling up at the end. Some of them are better than two years old.
You could very well be doing the right thing by stashing them, hell, I don't know. Personally, IMHO, I just don't see the difference in storing them or rotating them, "six of one, half dozen of the other." Know what I mean?
Oh, and by the way, storing those 18650's out in the Jeep for a month in Michigan sub-zero artic temperatures had no detrimental effect.
One more thing, if I'm still alive in five years (not supposed to be - man's estimate), I would like to know the condition of those batteries if you still decide to stash and not use until then.
:2c:

EDIT: I'm still using batteries from 2015. But, like I said, I have eleven I keep in constant rotation so they don't get used as much as they would if I only had 4 of them. See what I'm saying? Back in the day, when I only had four in rotation, they barely made it 2 years.

EDIT: EDIT: I'm getting over being gun shy about my posts and others are going to have to also or put me on ignore. Let's face it, if you wait long enough, you won't have to worry about it anymore. Wait me out... ;)

(As Turf would say >)
:LIKE!

Not worth worrying about, Gin, as spoken from someone who's taken more than a share of flames. All of which were/are very much deserved, of course. Trust me - you don't feel a thing (unless you decide to allow it in).

Inconsequential, this social media stuff (as YOU know), and I'm glad to see you back in action. For many reasons.

My thoughts exactly…except for the quitting part. I don't ever intend to…of course who knows years down the line.

But if you really quit some day…don't quit us please!

I ordered some of the button tops for my mini's but ended up sending them back. I couldn't screw the end cap completely on and the little gap bothered me. ☹️

Thanks for the 'warning'. We'll see how Hobb's makes out with his recent order.

I use button top 18350 and 18490 in my P3 just because that's what I have in 18350 and 18490 ... however comma ... I use flat top 18650s in the P3s. So I think both button and flat should work in the P3. Someone check me because I don't have flat top 18350 or flat top 18490.

I ordered that Mini pictured above, from ProVape with the ProVape P3 cap option ($20 extra) ... however comma ... the circuit board is still a 2.5 circuit board so I only use button top batteries in it.

Bill should be able, if he has the parts, to change a tapered cap to a P3 cap no problem. The main issue with batteries will still depend on if he changes the circuit board as well or not. If he does not swap out the circuit board for a P3 board ... then you will still need to/should use button top batteries in 2.5 and Mini 2.5.

At least that's the way I understand it based on limited experience as it were ... but e-mail Bill.

Flat top 18350's work fine in a P3. I carry two to work every day.

I figured I'd chance it on just letting them sit at the resting voltage they left the factory with, and check them once every six months/ year and see where they are at. I'm using an IPad that must be at least 8 years old now, and the battery in it seems fine to me, so there's that...I don't think anyone really knows how long these things can sit and still have decent life cycles left in them.
