this is a beautiful spot I often visit , take a break, and just listen to the water. I grew up and lived a good portion of my life on a riverbank, and oftentimes miss the sound of the water, it seems to somehow sooth my soul.

Sounds ideal, all I have is a pond in my back yard. :(

Joking aside, I have a friend who went to Raleigh for some time on a course, friendly people, he said and each weekend he hired a car and explored the area. It is a time full of fond memories for him.

^^ not my video, borrowed ^^

gives a general idea of what my local green way is like, though the sections I ride are less crowded usually... I believe this vid shows the uppermost part of the trail, up in Raleigh. I like to ride a hilly portion somewhere in the middle between Raleigh and Clayton, where the trail culminates. This vid is a pretty good example of what I consider to be a day well spent, though I do like to take my stops at some special places, and just enjoy looking at the river, or the open fields and whatever may be going on where I am at...

At the very end of this vid, this guy crosses a really cool suspension bridge which I rode across today, it was a remarkable bridge, very cool construction.

Very nice. You're obviously in good shape since you aren't even breathing hard at the end. I'd have a hard time relaxing when there are that many people on the trail. Seems like a disaster waiting to happen since the walkers seldom seemed aware you were coming up behind them. But, you did say there were more people than usual.

Your bike is very quiet. Some time when you're bored, I'd enjoy a video showing the features, brakes, seat, gear shift, tires etc. If I had a good trail to ride, I'd love to have a bike, but I'd wind up having to ride on the streets and/or sidewalks. I bought a recumbent bike for cold-weather exercise last winter and am using it again the past few days.

My normal exercise regimen is a daily 2.5-3 mile walk at about a 20-minute per mile pace. I find the recumbent bike can actually be tougher on my legs, but the walk seems to feel like a better overall workout. There is little joy in walking when temps are in the 10s, 20s and 30s, though. Brings out my wimpy side.

Great vid.

Sorry if I misled,
I should have been clear about that vid, I borrowed it:oops: because this guy has posted a few vids from different parts of the trail and different seasons, like when it floods. I stumbled upon these vids when I was researching the trail late past spring, and they are what really drew me to explore the green way complex. But yeah, I have gotten back into pretty good shape, typical ride for me twenty to thirty miles. Thirty mile rides usually take me two and a half hours or so, depending on rest stops. I wish I could do video, I've got a GoPro and an old digital cassette video recorder packed away somewhere...the PC that had my editing software on it crashed, so I'd have to start from scratch again. I used to shoot video back when I was sky diving, and so pretty much just stopped when I walked away from jumping.

No problem. I was misled by my own assumptions, not by you. Anyway, it was an enjoyable vid to watch.

Well, if it wasn't bikes, she would be making fun of you doing something else. They think we're weird. They can't believe we can be fulfilled by such simple things or can possibly be thinking of nothing. :)

Interesting.....I watched the first 14 mins., it's now nearly 6am and I haven't slept yet. I'll finish it later.

I've just finished viewing "your" video, it looks like a nice ride for a cycling enthusiast, sadly not so much for a tree-lover.
Although the camera flatens the perception of hills, I chuckled when I realised that the lateral camera wobble frequency decreased when the cyclist was going uphill. :)
As to the suspension bridge near the end, yes, it's an attractive little bridge. Earlier, in the 31st minute there's a very strange construction, probable beam and deck, undulating and curving. If I was the designer, I'd leave that one off my C.V.

If you consider the walkers to be a hazard, consider the following pix. The Dutch are enthusiastic cyclists with lanes and traffic lights everywhere in towns and cities, but not everyone thinks of the consequencies of their labour.
The title translation is "15 life-threatening cycle paths where no-one should dare to cycle".

Addendum: I didn't notice the byline - it says "We Dutch can be proud of our infrastructure"

Dude, you are married to the wrong wives. I note the moments I think of "nothing" as the most satisfying and fulfilling of my life.

I also deeply enjoy it when the husband says he has done stuff like "Nothing." When really he's pushing rocks around all day.

I mean, by technicality I hope he knocks that off and gets to the house stuff and all that but mainly so we can cohabitate this century, but I don't SAY that. We all need our "nothings."

Also he is all roided up and that can be a problem so I was totally okay with his nothing, I encouraged it. I mean, he is doing NOTHING to me but it's his happy place.

Dude, I feel WISE. I am probably just super tired.

Anna

Eta: I watch the Tour de France every year, too. I vote for the cheaters, and by that I mean I vote for ALL the cyclists. Except Lance. He is an epic tool and I thought that BEFORE all his cheating wins. Like he is just a total tool and has been ever since birth I think. I feel sorry for his mom. Not his girlfriends/wives I mean they brought that on themselves, frankly.

The pedestrians don't worry me much, I am rather tall and usually pretty scraggly. I have a very loud voice and not shy about using it to affect. they generally get out of my way, if not, I have been known to stop, unsnap my riding shoes, and stop right before them, while glaring at their eyes...never had a confrontation yet  the zombies glued to their electronic devices are another story entirely. there is no hope for humanity if they are our future...

I frequently drive down a two lane road thru the woods with a lot of bends in it. No straightaways to speak of (yes, the typical N. Carolina road). There are lots of bikers on that road and you cannot pass them without going in the other lane and risking your life. I can’t tell you the names I call them on this forum. :)

I was with ya on that a year ago Bronze, actually, I do recognize their right to the roadways, but at the same time, I came to the conclusion many moons ago that what is right is not always what is wise. I don't ride on the roads locally, it would be a death wish. Even in the neighborhood, I have had some douchey behavior from folks, and this is a no exit neighborhood with a .6 mile loop. They really don't seem to waste any money on breakdown/side lanes down here...they give you 6 inches to a foot of leeway and if you miss it its into the drainage ditch!

I love to drive slow when Rickey Bobby is on my tail, like...just five miles under the posted limit slow :lol:
