It was rather unseasonably warm last night, I ran a cord out to the shed and strung my work lights. Got my old Trek road bike converted to brake lever shifters and replaced all the brake and shift cables. Had my bike guy wrap my bars today because, I suck at wrapping bars:laugh::facepalm:

Another warm day today so I hit the greenway for a twenty two mile ride, trail is still flooded so I had to turn back because I didn't want to ride the new bike through the flood water...the bike is nicely spattered with clay and a bit of muck though, form the areas that were flooded and have drained.

At one point I just sat for a while and watched a combine harvesting a soybean crop, man, them big machines make a lot of dust! Lately it seems that there just aren't enough hours in the day...

Part of The Chain has been used in the UK and subsequently by Channel 4 for many years as intro music for Formula 1 on TV. There was a threat to change the theme music at one time which was reacted to so loudly that the change was abandoned.

had a really cool ride today. the river trail had been shut down at the fifteen mile marker for a bridge construction project, so the northern half had been shut off for me since I discovered this network, well, today I parked at mile seventeen and headed north to see how things were going, and finally! the bridge is open :)

First I stopped at the Milburnie dam site, a place where an old dam has been removed to restore the watershed:before

this is a beautiful spot I often visit , take a break, and just listen to the water. I grew up and lived a good portion of my life on a riverbank, and oftentimes miss the sound of the water, it seems to somehow sooth my soul.

Onward now, so I rode up to mile marker ten, after seeing some really wonderful wetland pockets up in Raleigh city proper, the trail lies along the watershed area of the Neuse River and there were some pretty upscale neighborhoods along this part of the trail, having the river and wetlands abutting them. At one point I was crossing a marshy area on a low lying footbridge and startled a bunch of ducks which were just floating about and feeding in the calm back waters to the river, mostly mallards and few other types I am not familiar with, but a couple let out a real cracker of a call as I was speeding along. So I hit the binders and stopped, and there must have been about thirty birds within maybe fifty feet of me, they nervously started swimming away, so I re mounted the bike and continued on.

Now I suddenly have a whole bunch of new territory to explore, and plan to make a ride to the trail head soon, just to see where it starts, then onto the branch trails, there are over a hundred miles of trails connected to this green-way!:thumb:
