I've just returned from my annual trip to Scotland and had a lovely time seeing family and friends, there was however a sting in the tail.
During dinner in the hotel where we booked in for the last two nights I spotted a man at the entrance to the bar
vaping on a tube. I stopped by his table for a short chat and we compared mods. I had a GMZ P3 and Kabuki combo with me, he had a Dicodes with a Prime in a metel jacket, beautiful. He railed against cloud-chasers, (often with no nic) spoiling it for the tootle-puffers who vape to keep off the stinkies. When I went to the bar I politely checked with the barman if
vaping was allowed. He muttered "no", which I would have accepted, but he felt the need to spoil the moment by adding "it's the same as smoking". I couldn't let him get away with that so I started to enlighten him as to the differences. Things escalated....I spoke to the manager who apologised for the barman's surly attitude. At breakfast the next morning a sympathetic waitress told me the aforementioned barman treated customers and colleagues similarly and had already had his last warning. Prior to breakfast I had already arranged a transfer to another hotel for the second night, the manager helpfully facilitated this.
Yesterday I received a standard survey request from the hotel chain and I let them know my thoughts on the incident and also my disapointment in their
vaping policy which is the complete opposite of the advice from respected groups such as the Royal Society of Physicians, Public Health England and the UK Parliament's Science and Technology Committee. I'm not holding my breath for a resolution of this unenlightend policy although the irascible barman may have the skids under him.
