Ding dong, the dongle is dead

Tried to use the Amigo this morning and I got flashing lights. I'd shift my hand and they'd flash again. Tried multiple cartos, different USBs... even plugged it into my computer. Same thing and from its behavior, it's definitely a short in the wire. Dangit.

Cleaned the connection and all that jazz. I'm glad I have another PT, but I sure did like my Amigo. I was hoping it would have more longevity than the Vornado but it really didn't, at least in my case. I've been careful with it, especially where the wire connection is concerned. I was mindful about putting pressure on the base and so on.

I realize that it's gone prime time, but this is where I've always reported issues with Alpha stuff and so here it is.

It's great to be able to come here for reviews b4 purchasing- ty- saved me some money.

Well, I mean I'm just one out of many. Haven't heard of one dying on anyone, I wouldn't use my report as gospel. It's a fine little dongle, to be sure. I'm really gonna miss it!

Burns: Thanks for the laugh  That's perfect for me because I do all kind of things while I pretend I'm a ninja! Folding clothes like a ninja, watchin' tv like a ninja, waiting at stoplights... like a ninja.

I'm not a ninja in real life, but I play one when doing household chores.

Looks to me like there's a seam above the "fat" ring just below the button. One of those mini pipe cutters ought to be able to open that bad boy up. Hell, it's broken. Clamp the top (or bottom) in a vise, and wiggle the other end 'til it comes loose. Can't be more than a press-fit on the body.

You know depending on your soldering skills it may be revivable. A USB Cable is only 5 wires and only 2 are typically used so it shouldn't be too bad. Not sure how the device comes apart though which may be tough.

OK, out of how many tho? Does anyone know how many people participate in this program? Or, how much of the product was sold?

Is the failure rate 1 out of 20, or 1 out of 100?

---OOPS, sorry if I'm not supposed to post here on the Alpha thread- didn't think.

No one is excluded from posting on this thread that I'm aware of.

Ty, YB6. Are any of the results from the feedback given here posted and tallied up somewhere?

There is not such a post, but we try to put a title at the top of relevant posts, so you could search a little quicker by browsing and focusing at the top line of the post. FWIW, feedback seems really good overall

You are more than welcome to post...we had 100 total, 50 on first phase then got 50 more to double dip it to make sure as it looked promising...

It's also worth noting that 100 isn't a large enough pool to determine whether or not a product is likely to crap out. I mean, we test quality, but if something truly is bad, there's usually a pretty good consensus. If you're really concerned over my dead dongle and are hesitant to purchase one, I'd recommend holding out until it's been out in the wild for a bit. That said, the product very well may sell out. It's the way it goes. I'd still suggest it to others because there are tons more out there working great and the Amigo performs fantastically.

Just wanted to interject here that I LOVE my little 'dongle' :)facepalm: as below)

The first one I ordered didn't work from the beginning - it flickered and turned off.

The second one has been great! Teeny-tiny little workhorse. I've been using it 15 hrs a day (with the occasional break) for the past 2-3 weeks.

A good one of these little guys is GREAT!

Even with the initial hiccup I had, I would very much recommend one of these.
    Just wanted to emphasize that...

I seem to remember reading about someones 'dongle' had died on them, but they later found out that it wasn't dead at all. I can't remember who it was. Bonny, perhaps there is some hope and yours just needs an extended rest period?

I absolutely LOVE mine! I use it at home and in the car everyday. If it died, I would thank it for it's many, many hours of faithful service and quickly order another :D

ETA: Found it.... it was Lavaca5, post #2952 :)

That's cool. Displays the number of puffs since last charge. That'll be an interesting personal stat.

They should make the twist like that with an LED readout.

I want to say there is a VV Version of it INCLUDING ATTY OHM read. Just having a hard time finding where I originally saw it. Maybe that was an up and coming one. But I do remeber those features because people were saying its like a pocket provari lol.

    FOUND IT!

Oh man, you'd better hope for your personal safety that no Provangelists read that!!! ;)
