in reference to coolrat's post above.
why didn't the pub owner tell the cloud
makers to knock it off or leave?
why make your regulars mad? would not
the offenders have gone elsewhere after
the ban?
"ike

Coolrat didn't post that I did. Now you are just playing games.

See the other thread on the exact same topic for my response to a similar type question.

If we ban ourselves from vaping where smoking isn't allowed, why bother fighting vaping ban legislation?

I'm not advocating for being obnoxious or disrespectful. I use my own discretion as to where it is appropriate to vape, and how to vape when I choose to do so in public. The "idea" of smoking bans is to "protect" people from the harms of SHS. Whether you agree that SHS is harmful or not doesn't matter, that is the basis for most of the laws. Since SHV has not been shown to be harmful, and all evidence to date suggests that it is not, why accept location based bans?

Some people don't know what vapor is, so it upsets them to see it inside. Okay, why not take some time to educate them? Yes, some people will remain willfully ignorant, that's not my problem. Some people are upset by seeing me(Asian) with my wife(Caucasian) and our child, that's also not my problem. Am I suggesting that vaping indoors is as big an issue as racial bigotry? No, but the basis for the "other's" discomfort is equally absurd.

I just understand that even tho I may look at vaping as harmless, others may not and don't have to. The reality is that we don't know the effects of vaping, and I'm rational enough to understand that. Sometimes I feel vapers forget they have knowledge that the general public doesn't when it comes to vaping. A lot more vapor comes out than smoke, and when it looks like smoke, more looks worse. It's about perception and courtesy...when i was a smoker I was always courteous. Anybody ever been to a casino and sat at a table and you got the smoker who just blows their smoke all over the place cuz they feel they have the right to? Yea i was never one of those people and I treat my vaping the same way.

And how well did that work out for us as smokers?

Why should the ignorance of others restrict my actions?

Chopdoc: respect without reciprocity is asking to be abused.

You are %100 correct Caramel. When you show others respect the majority of them will show it back to you. At times they are the ones to first offer the respect. Like when I was in the hopsital, many nurses came by just to chat with me about vaping. They either smoked themselves or had loved one who smoked and wanted to know more about vaping. We had some very good mutually respectful conversations and even tho the hospital policy was "no" none of them ever said I couldnt vape.
Other times like in a restaurant, its plain common sense. I know I would not like someone blowing a cloud over my table while I am enjoying a meal so why would I want to do that to others. When you do something or even avoid doing something because you know it is the right thing to do your respecting yourself, your own values and sense of whats right.
I know many believe its their right to sit back where ever they are and be able to just fog in the entire room but I ask, how is it disrespecting them when it is obviously bothering other people and someone ask them not to for that sole reason? Like the story Raqball shared. 4 or 5 was vaping the place out. Should the pub owner cater to only those 4 or 5 and lose the business of 20 or more or should he have done exactly what he did do?

Is smoking not a health risk? Why are you vaping then...It's not ignorance, you don't have the right to blow vape wherever you please just becuz you deem it ok. My courtesy didn't cause the ridicule of smokers...cancer did.

Didn't work that way with smokers. They initially agreed to have their own spaces, just to see them reduced to nearly 0 over the time.

Check airport "phone booth" smoking spaces. In North America they should have been some 18% of the total space / amenities.

After we went through this, it comes natural that now, as vapers, we don't trust in anyone's promise of "respect".

I've not heard or read a single person say they only vape where they could smoke. Perhaps you misinterpreted what the person meant.
There are lots and lots of people on this forum that say that.
When pressed, many of them admit that they only mean indoor places.

But some of them do truly mean ANYWHERE you can't smoke.
And those are always some fun threads.

Got ya.. I never smoked in my home or car but I do vape like a mad man in them. Other than that, I guess I do stick to only vaping where smoking is allowed when I'm in public..

As for me, I have vaped EVERYWHERE and nobody has ever noticed.
--I've vaped on numerous airplanes
--I've vaped in dozens and dozens of restaurants
--I've vaped during dozens and dozens of movies
--I've vaped in my seat at many baseball games
--I've vaped in many hospital rooms

But I always vape in such a way that nobody notices.
And I damn sure am not going to blow any clouds into the air.

Although I have slipped up once or twice through the years.

Now of coarse because people couldn't show basic respect smoking is banned in or near most non-private buidings and all city parks and just about everywhere else. While some of these bans made me happy and others annoyed me I was never in any doubt of who caused them. Smokers. And only smokers.
Not exactly, read this...
Rampant Antismoking Signifies Grave Danger
Every smoker is a promoter of other smokers. The practice ought to be an enclosed one, not to be endured by the non-smoker in ordinary social intercourse; and no one should be allowed to use advertisement or any indirect means to suggest otherwise.
If we start with the view that we can begin to get rid of cigarette smoking from many communal occasions and that we can and should make it more and more difficult for the individual to smoke cigarettes in public...
A longer-term target would make cigarette smoking an undesirable and private activity within ten years after that.
Programs aimed at creating a social environment in which smoking is unacceptable .

There's lots more where that came from.
And it's all ANTZ propaganda, paid for by Big Pharma and Big Government.

Stealth vapers are not the problem because no one sees the ginormous clouds..

If people want to stealth vape or vape responsibly in public then I am, by all means, 110% behind it...

Same here.

When I smoked at a casino I would blow my smoke up into the air.
And I do the same with my vapor.

Absolutely not issue for me. 1) Airpoint? That's why I carry nic gum when I travel by air. And honestly the smoking room doesn't bother me, if I want to vape. 2) Amusement park, I'd do the smoking area. I might do a stealth vape if they had no smoking area. Maybe.

Those were easy choices. The airport scenario I've already done.

I smoked for 40 years and remember when I could smoke in a restaurant and for years refused to go out to eat except for the occasional special occasion because of the smoking ban. That was then, this is now. Sure it ...... me off that as a smoker I felt I had no rights but no one forced me to smoke and yes, I was slowly killing myself. I still like the smell of a freshly lit cigarette.
I dont want it as a vapor to be in the same boat as smokers which is why I like to use an ounce of prevention. Being able to enjoy a vape and being in peoples faces with it is two separate things. If I go into an establishment and bring an Ego and take occasional drags from it, it is doubtful anyone will complain. I have done this in walmart checkout line and no one said anything to me. If I went into the same place and brought a mech mod and my magmum and blew large clouds, I would probably be asked not to, or to leave. There is a place and time for everything. In a place where many people who are clueless about vaping like a store and see someone blowing massive clouds, thats just asking for trouble.

As an aircraft mechanic I can honestly tell you that your playing with fire here. Most cabin fire detectors are infared and they are tested with "cans of smoke". Thats how they detect a fire is from a wisp of smoke. If you inadvertently set off a fire alarm from vaping on a plane the outcome will not be pretty. Even if you dont set off an alarm, it only takes one passenger to turn you in, then federal marshals will search you, find your vape gear and once again, the outcome wont be pretty.

If any passenger could see me doing it, or notice anything at all, I wouldn't do it.

Well, are we talking about vaping or smoking?
Is smoking a health risk? Yes
Is SHS, the basis for smoking bans, a health risk? Maybe, definitely not as high a risk as we've been told.
Is vaping a health risk? No, not until someone definitively proves otherwise.
Is SHV a health risk? LOL see above.

So yes, it IS ignorance, ignorance of the facts about vaping. Ignorance of the fact that vaping IS NOT SMOKING.

Cancer did not cause the ridicule of smokers, the systematic demonization and government funded ostracizing of smokers did that all on it's own. Think about any other form of cancer, do we ridicule women for having breasts? Yes, smoking was a choice, and if you're vaping you've probably made the choice to be healthier, so why subject yourself to the same ridicule.

Again, I am not advocating vaping anywhere you want, however you want, ignoring rules/laws/common courtesy. Being courteous of others and your surroundings is common sense, voluntarily restricting yourself due to the ignorance of others is nonsense.

[...]That was then, this is now.[...]

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Nothing has changed. The players and the tactics are exactly the same.

After watching them at work for some 2 decades, and reaching the ultimate state of disgust and despise, you want me to suddenly refill myself with "respect"?

Sorry chopdoc, I'm not that gullible.
