3. I believe if reading correctly. Tried a cig a like purchased at Wal-Mart (not sure which brand) no good. Year later discovered Vision Spinner and Kanger T3S. Smoked a carton while using which took a month instead of the usual 5 to 6 days and haven't touched one since. 7 months later with my REO and Nicoticket or DIY juice and it doesn't even bother me or cause an urge to be in the car with someone else smoking. This is after 31 plus years of smoking.

I tried cigalikes in 2008 out of curiosity. A Supersmoker. It was crap, so wasn't able to quit. Then bought a Ruyan cigalike. Also crap. Forgot about vaping until I read a column in my local newspaper about someone who was able to quit by vaping. So I responded to the article with the question which model she was using. Her answer was: Evod. Did some research, watched some videos about it and then bought the set. I quit within 3 days! That was over a year ago.
I am definitely curious how a cigarette would taste now, but I'm too afraid to try...

That would be number 1 for me.

I started with a Janty-Dura C (not really a 'cig-alike' in appearance - all in black, and WITHOUT the annoying red led :) ), but definitely cig-alike tecnology - small batteries that would not last for long (I used to carry 2 pairs with me) and simple, 510 atomizers with foam filling.

Of course, I later moved on to 2nd generation devices, and more recently to mods - but they were only available later.

I stopped smoking in about a day and and half, and used the Dura-C for more than one year, maybe, until the arrival of the Janty JETS - a bigger, 2nd generation battery with a tank system.

1. Yes, I started with cigalikes, used them until I quit smoking, and have not resumed smoking.

4+ years tobacco-free, and still going strong.... :) I'm into more advanced gear now, but could and would go back to cigalikes if that was the only thing available... I made the switch to vaping purely for harm-reduction. The plethora of new high-wattage gear and attys available now (compared to 2010) is fun to keep things interesting, but is not necessary for me to stay away from a 30 year habit which was killing me. ;)

Another thing I did was that first year I wouldn't allow myself a cigarette, once I realized I had the power, No I don't get it from grayskull, wow showing my age.... lol, I allowed them back in and now I control when they visit.... I think you will realize soon enough, the power is yours.....
I've always wondered whether it should actually be "recommended" that a vaper try a cigarette after awhile...

For some, maybe.
For others, maybe not.

But like you, I have found that I no longer care one way or the other about cigarettes.
And I can have one whenever I feel like it, with no repercussions.

Because I am a vaper now.
And no cigarette can ever change that.

So, fwiw, here are the results of this very unscientific survey:

1. Yes, I started with cigalikes, used them until I quit smoking, and have not resumed smoking.---------------------------------23
2. Yes, I started with 2nd or 3rd generation PVs, used them ‘til I quit smoking, and have not resumed smoking.------------49
3. No, I started out with cigalikes and they didn't work for me. I later quit using more advanced PVs.---------------------------52
4. No, I started out with 2nd or third generation PVs and they didn't work for me. But I was later able to quit.-----------------3
5. Other (please explain)------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------4

It's interesting that there are so few No. 4 responses. Selection bias may not fully explain it.
I think it's pretty hard NOT to quit with the latest equipment out there these days...

So the informal poll results make a lot of sense to me in that respect.

I would be one who it would not be wise to have a cigarette. And so I won't. No I won't.

I fall under #3.

First time I started with the Blu, then stopped because I did not like them at all. Fast forward 2 years later I tried again with a spinner and a CE5 clearo, which ended up doing a good job. I then switched out to a Protank3. After that I went back to cigs because i deployed. After that I went to the Nautilous with a VTR and was good to go, and since then I have moved up to a mech mod with 2 RDA's (454 Big Block and a Mutation X) the MX is my daily at .65ohms and 3mg of nic. I go using anywhere from 8-10ml a day while dripping :] which is good for me since i quit using analogs all together.

Started vaping in 2010 with an ego and atty and cartridge. Not so many options when I started vaping.

Never intended to quit, but wanted to vape inside. Took about a month to transition off cigarettes completely and have been cig free ever since.

Best thing I ever did.

My mother who's in her 80's also started vaping when I did. Kicked a 60 year cigarette habit in about a week.

On the day I completed one month with vaping, I bummed a cigarette just out of curiosity.

It didn't taste bad yet, but it was really strange. It looked like I went back twenty years in time, because that cigarette reeeealy hit hard on my lungs. Like those first cigarettes you tried, remember? On that small time frame when you got used to smoking, cigarettes started to taste good, but they STILL feel like a cigar when you take a drag from it? That's what it felt like :)

I reckoned by then this MUST be a good sign: if a cigarette felt like that, only one month into vaping, that was because my lungs had already started to clear, which can only be a good thing.

About six months after that, I bummed another. But that one, I could not even finish. It tasted awful. In fact, I remember chain vaping afterwards just to clear that nasty flavour from my mouth and nose. :)

So, I guess I smoked TWO cigarettes for the last (almost) six years

From what I see from dual-user friends, and this is my opinion only, I believe one cannot "truly" enjoy vaping if you do not give your lungs the opportunity to clear themselves from the tar.

Let me explain: true, I stopped smoking in a day and an half. That does NOT mean I was completely satisfied and thrilled with my new device. It tasted like weak, ultra-light cigarettes at first. of course it would, I was recently smoking! So, some degree of self-control on the first week was necessary.

Over time, however, that vapour seemed to gradually thicken. Of course it wasn't, it was only my poor lungs finally clearing up after more than 20 years of smoking...!

Today, even an e-Go device feels to me like a "proper" cigarette (a mod feels like even better, but I never need to go above 10-11 watts). I strongly believe this happens because my lungs should be tar-free by now.

Of course, YMMV :)

I started with joyetech twist which had just come out when I started vaping.

Helpers in new members told me to get cartos and tank. then I bought a clearo.

I was disgusted, and by week 3, even though at the time (mid 2012) they were not suggested for beginners, I put all that stuff aside and got a bottom feeder.

Voila~ I quit smoking in 7 days after that.

I don't think I would have made it had I had to fiddle with tanks, clearos, etc.

I still like the twists for backup and out and about some days. I started with a vmod, and now have reo.

2. When purchasing a carton of cigarettes in January, the owner of the store started talking to me about vaping. I purchased a cheap starter kit (I've since upgraded to Itaste MVP). I never opened the carton of cigarettes! Been smoke free (except ONCE) since January. The one time I did smoke a cigarette, I just wanted to see if I still liked it. I took TWO puffs, choked and put it out. Then I brushed my teeth and tounge for an hour. :p NASTY!
