    Hey @ShowMeTwice - need advice.

okay, so my blackberry turnover that I used flv blackberry in @ 1% is taking over the mix in two ways.

one is that 1% is too much rich dark fruit and it's stomping on the more delicate pastry. So I'm going to mix next time @ 0.50% next time which should resolve that.

that said, this is a recipe I have no added sweetener in, but the use of blackberry is making the whole recipe taste like sweet on sweet (as opposed to how the recipe reacts with a MF green apple).. So I need to do something to tone that sweetness down, but I'm not sure what without going back to stomping out the pastry.

Is this simply not going to work with the pastry base I have as is? or is there something I can do to tone down all this sweet... ?
Not SMT but I’d try the Mora.

    Somewhere between here and there
My plans for today are the same as always. Try to survive another day at work. Yesterday was horrible. Just one phone call after the next that were just complete wastes of time and had a guy come in looking for parts for a machine that was made in 1968 and couldn't understand why I couldn't get the parts he wanted. Probably because they stopped stocking parts for it in 1980.

What about adding a little something sour at say .25 like sour apple or similar....

Right over to the expert :)

I've thought about a drop or two of just plain sour, but I'm scared of ruining the whole mix.. lol

    Good morning folks,

I have had my ride on the spinning bike, the usual 30 minutes. It will be months before I am back in last year's form.
We will soon go for a walk with Øsa.

When I return it will be mixing the rest of the evening, must get it done, tasting will be after 14-28 days steep time.

    Yes I don't blame you....

Maybe the reduction will do both things. If it's a small tester why not play with the original and do another one for the reduction in blackberry....if that makes sense :)

What flavors and %'s are you using for your pastry base???

Pastries, even plain ones, in RL are lighter and have a natural sweetness. In vape juice they can easily stomped out by other flavors. And sweetness will be enhanced when using other sweet flavors.

If I were to use FLV blackberry in my croissant base I would start with only 1 drop/30ml and go from there. I'm confident that would not drown out the croissant yet still give me the berry flavor. And that may also be too sweet so I would add a drop of WF Mora (Blackberry) to bring some tartness to balance it out.

Do you have WF Mora (Blackberry)? That is more tart. If you are going to drop the FLV to 0.5% I would suggest going with 0.15-025% Mora. The Mora blackberry will clamp down the FLV berry sweetness.

If you don't have that... do you have a more tart berry? Really doesn't matter which kind cuz you can blend it in (drops) so your FLV berry is still the main note.

Alternatively, do you have TFA Acai? At low %'s it's a good additive for reducing sweetness.

Using @FranC's tip... 0.5% would help tone down the sweetness of FLV Blackberry. She used to use 1%, but, over the last several months Frannie is leaning "slightly sweeter" with flavors. Might even get her using CAP v1 sugar cookie again. ;) :D

If you use acai and go with 0.5% of your blackberry I would start with 0.15-0.25% acai.

    Hope that helps. :)

You might consider transferring 10ml of your mix to another bottle and then trying a tiny tiny drop of plain sour.

However, my gut tells me that any amount of 'sour' would upset, change, what you have going with your pastry base. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm thinking you want to leave your pastry base 'as is'. :)

Or better yet, use @Katya's tip, the toothpick method. Take a toothpick dip it into your plain sour for a few seconds (3-4). Lift it, let any drops roll back into the bottle. Insert the t-pick into your 10ml test bottle and stir for a few seconds. The longer you leave it in your bottle the more sour that will get xferred from the t-pick.

Katya taught me that trick for using FA Honey which is extremely strong. A single drop from the bottle will overpower any mix. The toothpick tip works wonders and will work with any flavor or additive.

Once I have a mix started in the right direction I will make 30ml's. That way I have 3 10ml's to play with. If I have an existing base that I don't want to tweak I xfer 10ml to another bottle and then add whatever new flavor(s) I desire. I do that whenever I'm trying to adjust, and tweak, a recipe.

The pastry base is perfect as is, that I don't want to change at all .. your correct in thinking that..

good idea with toothpick... I'm still unsure because again, why mess at all with something that could kill it completely.

I may end up doing acai or Mora instead... I can vape sweet on sweet, just not as pleasant as having the right balance... lol

this is my cheap self not wanting to end up flushing juice at this point... hahaha

Do you have any plain cheesecake ( not ny or with graham ) A small amount .5 will blend in with your pastry and reduce sweetness.

Another fine tip written on a tiny piece of paper... added to the tiny P-of-P folder.

@Zazie, you asked folks to let you know when there were good tips to add to the Tip section of your fine Blog. There have been some today. :)
