I don't like Campbell's cream soups, either. I just make a béchamel and doctor it as appropriate.
Yeah, they're easy and unslimy. And you can sub stock for the milk (that turns it into a velouté, @ShowMeTwice) if you want to go that route. They're both really handy. The French don't call them mother sauces for nothing.I do a lot with that.
