I'm with dc99, in that I find the amount of difference, and whether I prefer the regular or cleaned up version, will vary from flavor to flavor. In a pinch, I have subbed one for the other, without drastic consequences. Like subbing any concentrate for another, it is not going to be the same, but it often is inside the ballpark of acceptability. So, another question... I was under the impression that DX flavors are simply made without “undesirables” but taste the same for the most part. I’ve recently noticed mixers stating DX taste better sometimes (TFA pomegranate) and vice versa. For someone not concerned with the DX aspect but only the actual flavor, are they different enough you might actually need both the original and the DX versions?
Using TFA's home website is a good tool to use. Reading the descriptions, and looking at the component lists (far right column "List"), can give you an idea of how "different" they might be (use Pomegranate, and Pomegranate Deluxe, as an example). Also, reading reviews and comments on sites like ELR, Bull City Flavors, Nicotine River, and ecig express, can create an idea of what other prefer and why.
And just as an FYI (and strictly my opinion); the one thing TFA has done poorly, is naming/renaming "cleaned-up" concentrates. Unlike companies like Capella, who have a straightforward system like "V2" to identify reformulated concentrates; TFA can't seem to decide what to do. Some are labeled at "DX," others will be called "Deluxe," and yet others get a whole new name (Vanilla Swirl is reformulated Vanilla custard; Vanilla Bean Gelato is reformulated Vanilla Bean ice Cream; etc.). Reading the side-by-side descriptions (the first link above) is the only way I have caught these reworked formulas, and given me ideas for substitutions.
When I read your recipe, the first thought I had, was "this looks like a good candidate for FA-Forest Fruit." I find it a good non-sweet dark berry blend, that can be steered toward a specific berry, by subtle addition of a second berry that is desired to be dominant/forward (e.g. blue, black, rasp., etc.).Interested enough in this sorbet to mix another. Maybe I can manage to use some less sweet fruits this time.
That does look like the One Stop DIY Shop flavor. That is a proprietary (created by One Stop themselves) concentrate available only from OSDIYS (or Chefs Flavours if you are ordering from the U.K.).The only flavor I can’t find that’s on my list is Blue Raspberry Slush.
