Will do. One is a tobacco with whiskey so I do not think this is your flavor profile. The other is a collaborative recipe put together by a bunch of guys. I hope I like this one because it is a creme brûlée donut. It uses FLV Smoked Butterscotch (only 0.5%) which I did not buy. I am going to use FA or FW Butterscotch instead. I may add FA Black Fire at a low quantity which supposedly adds a smoky flavor. Not sure yet about it though.

This is the recipe if you want to give it a try. The creme brulee supposedly is the topping on the donut. Will all blend into one flavor for me. I cannot give credit to the guys since I cannot remember who all was part of this. First time using WF Glazed Donut so hope it is good.

% | Vendor | Flavor

1.5 (INW) Creme Brulee (yc)

3 (INW) Custard

0.75 (CAP) Funnel Cake

3 (WF) Glazed Donut SC

0.5 (FLV) Smoked Butterscotch

0.75 (FLV) Vanilla Pudding

Reading those isn't hard. It shows in big view on the 1ml syringe. Unless what you are trying to read is 0.05 which us half of 1/10th of a ml? Which would be under the -. half way between the .1 bolded and the bottom of the syringe. That one is hard :confused: but a 0.50 is the .5 halfway up the 1 ml syringe. Didn't I post a pic a while back that showed this? Thought I did
:)

Is that 1/4 or 1/3 of a drop?

I don’t have Cap Funnel Cake, WF Glazed Donut, I do have FA Butterscotch. But thank you :)

I wouldn't have the first clue how you do that.:)
I’m usually on the iPad. Keyboard is on the screen, so I use a stylus. Not that I am any more proficient with the laptop. Maybe I’ll commit to putting in one a day. That way it doesn’t sound so daunting.

Depends on volume of bottle used. If using a 30ml bottle volume 0.5% works out to be 0.15ml or 5 drops.
According to the calculator I use 1 drop at .05ml only starts to show up at around the 35ml volume. Other than that it only shows grams in weight which may be a .02 in grams(still totally not measurable by drops alone) so doing a dilution or not using a flavor seems to be the only option other than upping the %.

No, .5% is .05ml or half of the first mark on a 1ml syringe.
This is why doing % and converting them into ml can get confusing. 1.0 is 1 ml the size of the entire 1 ml syringe. the .1, .2, .3, through .9 are in tenths of 1ml. 0.50% =its ml by doing a volume conversion by multiplying the amount of the recipe ie. 30ml, 10ml ect. So if doing a 10ml bottle would translate to 10x.050 =.05 ml which is approx 2 drops. and yes would be hard to read on a syringe. However, if you are mixing a 30ml bottle recipe then 30x.050 = 1.5 ml which is is at the first bolded 1(.1) in the syringe and halfway to the number 2 or 5 drops. Hope this helps. To get ml from % the % to be converted by moving the decimal to the left hence .50% is moved 2 places to the left and % sign dropped. So .5 can be read as half of a %.

I read a few different views and posts here on mixing methods when I started thinking about making my own liquids.

I ended up using the weight method. Just seemed the simpler and the least way I could screw up method. Numbers are harder to mess up than little lines on a syringe for me anyways lol! Which is kinda ironic since I worked in healthcare for 25 years lol!

I bought a $13 precision scale on Amazon. It works fantastic and is small so if I feel like doing a mini mixing session while watching tv it fits easily on a tray table with everything else. It has two clear trays that will contain any spills as well.

I also jumped right into the ERL options for storing my recipes or recipes I’ve adjusted. I use the Flavor Stash to keep track of what I have. It’s easy to do an inventory with the list. I store my flavor concentrates in the same order as the Flavor Stash lists them. I don’t use the price or costs tracker though. I do use the amount I bought that way if it looks like I’m running low on a concentrate I can check how much I bought without having to take out all the large bottles that are stored in the fridge. I use those to top off the smaller in use bottles of 10-30mls.

Oh and one other thing that is great about ELR is that you can backup all of your recipes and Flavor Stash to your PC or even iPad. I back mine up every couple of months. That way if ELR crashes I still have all my information on hand.

Well I have success, bring on the scale[emoji38]......LOL. My first saved recipe is Chocolate Cereal:) My recipes will still go in my binder just in case ELR ever goes poof. I will make note of ml and gram.
Just an FYI, ELR can backup all your recipes and you can download them, so you don't have to write them out, and they're safe if ELR goes poof. You can either save them as a file, or print them out and put them in your binder.

Let me know if you want details....

What file format is the download?

I should have explained better that I always mix 10ml samples when first trying a recipe so when I need .5% of a flavor and mix with syringes then I need to try to see between the bottom of the syringe and halfway to the .1 mark.

Only when I was typing my response did I remember you saying that your testers were 10ml but decided to post it anyway. When using that small of an amount for 10ml it is 2 drops for a .05ml or.50%

I soon won't have to worry about it thanks to Fran and a few others here motivating me to order a scale. That link she posted for the one she ordered did the trick for me. Now what do I do with all the syringes and long needles I bought?

Save them for a day like mine? No power for the day, as they’re replacing the poles on our street :(. Can’t get any chores done, so I think I’ll move my mixing to the screened porch. Hopefully, they get it back up by early afternoon so I can get purty, we’re going out to dinner for our anniversary (32 years!! :)).
