Last night I heard an interesting snippet about the virus.

Apparently 15 years ago DARPA started a project to build the capacity to rapidly develop antibody based vaccines for new viruses. The goal was to be able to develop a vaccine within 6 months. It would only be expected to provide short term immunity, about 1 to 3 months. The purpose was to protect military personal long enough for a single deployment during a crisis, so it wasn't part of the plan to produce something providing long term immunity, or something that could be produced in large enough quantities for the whole population.

They did a load of basic research and funneled a bunch of money to research facilities like universities and commercial operations. Apparently some of the techniques that came out of it been quite useful and are part of the reason why antibody based vaccine development is moving so fast.

HOWEVER, son will be working off the payment for that class (although it was free to me...ha!). Today he picks up sticks in the yard, rakes leaves away from the fence, and picks up hickory nuts.
That's fair. He does live there.

I was worried about the shipping of my new pressure washer from Lowe’s. They sent the surface cleaner attachment the next day. And it looked like they were saying all delivered and it had me worried. I looked this morning and the tracking page changed to a Monday delivery so now I feel better. I’m excited and want to do my driveway. I see an off day in my future.

I've been waiting 2 months for a new stove from Lowes. They said it was taking a long time because it was a special order and their supply chain has been messed up by the virus. It arrived last Sunday. I didn't even get a call to expect it, I saw the truck backing into my driveway when I was up the road walking the dog. But they had messed up and put it on the regular delivery truck rather than the installer truck. Normally would have installed it myself but my back is giving me trouble. Currently due next Thursday.

Luckily my old stove still works. One burner is out and the igniter in the oven only operates when I turn on one of the burners. So to use the oven I have to turn a burner on and off every few minutes. I can still cook though.

Day off: Started picking garden vegies. I will have to wait till the sun hits my green bean gardens because the mosquitoes are thick.

Going to try to squeeze a 100mL mixing tonight.

    This is just totally unbelievable....WOW.

I agree I think at this point @hittman should get the flavors for free.

@*RJ* I did the same thing in college, only I didn't mention it or anything (my parents were very unhappy my mom especially.) It was astronomy and like, I found it completely incomprehensible and we all did our homework together. I was not aware that was not kosher and like 11 of us did it together, and I was the only one that got a zero for like, "cheating."

I think I have a very expressive face, one that in this case was saying, "I hate distribution requirements, and I hate your class in PARTICULAR." It had a reputation for being easy but I did not think so. Even if I had kept going it would have meant I failed, anyway, because I'm sure I wouldn't have passed the tests. But, I decided to just stop going. I did not drop the class.

I think they wound up doing something with it where like, it was on my transcript but it did not affect my GPA it was labelled No Credit or something. I would suggest your son go talk to his scholarship advisor maybe he can do something over the summer. I have sympathy, college can be really hard.

I did have to take 5 classes another semester anyway but I did that most semesters because I was a double major, minoring in biology.

That was the thing about like distribution that ticked me off, I was like "I will take all the biology classes you WANT dude, but NO I wound up taking statistics (not so bad) and physics for poets. (I know NOTHING about physics) when I would have MUCH rather taken more bio classes but NOoooo.

In any case stats 1 was useful because I had to take advanced stats in SW school but they had our number. Our entire class got assigned a TA each from day one. We all passed all right. Actually I do know some things about stats, some of it stuck with me.

The weirdest distribution requirement of them all was that they wanted you to like, pass a swim test. It was a requirement of like, the dude who donated the Olympic pool. The weirdest part was like, (I am like a cat I can swim but I don't enjoy it much) I went pretty late in the game and like, there were MANY students sort of jumping in and flailing around and having to be rescued Why would you wait until the last day to find out swimming is not instinctual? I kind of wondered like, how they managed I mean, did they like do remedial swimming over thee simmer or what? Was there an intensive swim course prior to graduation?

I also don't know what up and down in the pool really gets me plus treading water for five minutes. I mean if I'm not in a life boat fine, l don't die for 10 really exertion filled minutes and everyone is like "Oh thank God she went to Swarthmore." ???

Yeah college can be hard sometimes.

That's very odd. I have only had AWESOME experiences with Fedex. They got me a package from China in under a week. I mean it was a 24 hour dispatch but still. If I were obscenely rich I would use it for everything but junk mail, probably. I always thought it was the best carrier of them all but BOY is it expensive.

I think @hittman has a voodoo curse on this order (I didn't do it!) I mean, I would have been "forget it" after the toothpaste incident.

I have no doubt that usps opened and kept all but six of my flavors the first time it shipped. It had been opened and retaped. It was a flat rate box. Fedex has lost three packages on me the past few months. I’m beginning to think they lost this one too.

I shipped a turtle priority overnight to California on Tuesday, the customer and I fretted for about 8 hours. It started showing "delivery exception, courier dispatched after package arrived". She could not even get details so that she could pick it up at the local hub. It was supposed to arrive before 10:30 am and ended up getting delivered at 6:05 pm.

This whole Covid-19 thing has FedEx, USPS, and UPS in shambles. It's like a perpetual Christmas time mailing nightmare that won't go away.

Yes it's not easy. I mean in Dynamics which is more indicative of mechanical engineering (well so is thermo) he's got an easy A. I forgive him for struggling...we all do in life and in college. But what I'm peeved about is I kept asking how he was doing and I kept getting the "OK", or "ummm yeah", or a blank stare. I knew something was up. So I'm peeved about the lying or leaving out relevant information. If he had told me sooner I would have tutored him as I have done many many times in the past. After I tutored him in circuits he finally understood it and made an A. I have tutored people in algebra my entire adult life so I'm a pretty good teacher (my first love...I always wanted to be a math teacher). He just stayed mum about it all. If he had mentioned it he could have dropped. I think he's learned a valuable lesson. I told him of everybody he knows I know EXACTLY what he's going through as I have the same degree and I went through all the same classes. I had a long burnout in college where I didn't think I would finish. I told him I kept seeing me in the job I've always wanted making the dough I deserved to get me over the hump. This will be a tiny spot in a long life when he looks back on it and he just needs to get through it. I told him one day you will also be telling YOUR children about a failed class and how you handled it while you lecture them.

Turns out the Kia dealership in Corpus are a bunch of thieving liars. Among many things, they had written in their report my front and rear pads were both at 10%.. I'm surprised they didnt insist they replace them all. There is TONS of life left in my front pads I got cheap off of rockauto. The rear pads that were dangling on a thread of life that I replaced were very expensive "premium" pads from NAPA. Never again, can't trust anyone or hardly any product anymore. Not a whole lot I can do about it, except learn more skills to do my own repairs/maintenance. /end rant

I made my order at bcf. I'm going to try to replace the lemon cream wafer with one of the two lemons below until it restocks. I want it for the orange tart recipe. I couldn't resist the caramel everyone keeps raving about. And of course the aged bourbon cream. I am not very hopeful that it matches real flavors but it's worth a try.

    1 x Orange Cream-TFA
    1 x Custard-INW
    1 x Creamy Sponge Cake-FW
    1 x Butter Pecan Pie-WF
    1 x Caramel-FLV
    1 x Smoked Butterscotch-FLV
    1 x Lemon Meringue Tart-VT
    1 x Lemon Squares-SC-WF
    1 x Aged Bourbon Cream-WF
