I do not remember textbooks costing all that much. I mean, they weren't cheap, but not outrageous. I never did any sort of rental service though.

The rental was only $33 but if you don’t return them then they charge you for whatever they say is the value of the book.

Her first semester at college, her books were a little over 900

I'm thankful for mine. She's pretty responsible. She knows that I can't financially bail her out, even though I help her out in a pinch when I can. She's, for the most part, on her own. I do manage her insurance, although don't pay for it. She was on Obamacare until the first of the year. For some unknown reason, she lost the tax credit and neither of us can afford it now. I had to remind her today to apply for Medicaid.

After having to retake a class because she didn’t do the required work

Oooooo...I thought it was because the teacher was really a grad student or something and didn't explain things well to the students. Or, that might have been a different 1, since IIRC you said she's had/will have 2 classes to retake.

I left out a part. The $150 charge is for a book that she forgot to return that was a rental. I went outside and found it in the back of her car under a pile of clothes.

Oops! Not good at all on her part. I'd be PO'd, too.

ETA: Seems this kind of stuff happens a lot with teens, especially when they have a boyfriend or girlfriend who occupies nearly all of their waking thoughts and their time.

Wow, then a couple of late or missing books would cost a boatload. I can understand your frustration.

We found out about her not turning in the required work when we made her email the teacher. That’s what he said caused the minus on her C.

I can’t complain about my 4. They were all responsible when the time came.

We never had an issue with our oldest. She has always been very responsible. The youngest has been a different story.

Then I'd be doubly PO'd about the grade and her having to retake the class. First, because of her not turning in all the work and earning that grade, and second... because she wasn't forthcoming with that bit of info. (which she likely knew already) when she got her grade and then just complained about the teacher. ;)

Exactly. I can’t tell you how ready I am to be done with her in college. She still has two more years. She starts the nursing program this fall. She took the exam to get into the nursing program a week or so ago and did great. I know she’s smart enough. She hates writing papers and it was an English class that she got the C- in. She’s also working on a minor in Spanish but we told her she’s going to have to put the next Spanish class on hold until she takes the English again. She can’t start the nursing program until she has a C or better in that class.

Time to sit her down for a serious talk.
